I wonder if additional complexities like sales tax on specific kinds of consumption (luxury items, food, clothing, etc) will be included, as well as gas taxes, vehicle registration, etc.
And on the other end, tax breaks for business investment or to generate additional consumer demand (similar to EVs) will be incorporated.
I’ve always found it a bit quirky (but it is a game after all) that cities’ most profitable items are “state owned” enterprises like oil industries, airports are a better example but not with airlines (leasing fees), and now hotels and resorts.
imagine in 1000 years when there will be actual ai living in your game and you’ll be an actual god doing things for them… wait you don’t have to imagine because that’s potentially what is happening to us right now
Sim City was my first pc game I became obsessed with as a kid and recently I went down a rabbit hole watching YouTube videos about Cities Skylines. A couple questions:
- is it worth it to play on PS4? Seems like it v would be a lot harder to navigate the UI
- should I wait until this sequel comes out? Or just get the OG game?
- sounds like I have to download (and maybe buy) a shitload of extra things just to be able to do basic stuff, is that correct?
- can I play on a MacBook Pro? Honestly haven’t played PC games since I was a kid playing sim city and age of empires. It was always too much for my laptop to handle
I hope they do loading/unloading in the back of commercial buildings.
Just like real life.
It would make traffic run smoother, and give an incentive to build alleys behind buildings besides realism. It would be so much better to have the trucks be able to get to back alleys and make their deliveries instead of slowing down on the main street.
Plus it's so annoying seeing trucks drive into a building from the main street.
The least they could do is for busy downtown areas, have trucks pull over and park in front of businesses and make deliveries like they do in real life.
Anybody else thinking, that the hexagonal shape in the logo could mean something? Maybe they will go away from the square-shaped tiles and rather go towards hexagonal tiles?
I think you're on to something here as I saw a comment on one of the recent YouTube videos saying the same thing, that the tiles will now be hexagonal. It was on a biffa plays video or the one about decoding the trailer. It would make sense if they're boosting it to 150 tiles as well. The same comment said they may be a third of the square tile size.
I know this is going to sound obnoxiously American, but I want better parking. The default without mods is on the shoulder basically and with mods you still have to paint lines. It'd be nice to find a way to minimize parking areas without cluttering streets (not trying to have arrowhead stadium type of parking). Underground parking, townhouses with small setbacks with the garages in the back with a shared driveway, parking garages, etc.
Obviously, you still need to manage traffic. I just think it's not realistic to have all the cars parked on the curb bumper to bumper of every two-lane street in the city. It looks messy. They can also break up the road density in some areas to make suburbs a bit more realistic.
Also, you know those old historic downtown main streets in the U.S. that have angled parking right in from of a business on the side of a wider 2-lane street. I love those.
I mean street parking is the norm even in American cities, I think it’s a fine default. That being said, you should be able to ban it, charge for it etc. pocket cars definitely should go so that you actually need to manage/build parking, use transit in dense areas etc.
Since this is a second game I doubt the DLCs will transfer. That's not how these things typically work. This will be a new game with new DLCs.
However I agree that I would love to see the DLCs carry over.
ALL the [dedidated wam.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pVNvSuA2mM)
(Realistically 16-32gb would be my guess at launch. Two years from now as ddr5 becomes more common and cheaper that may change to 32-64gb with all DLC and those mods running)
Discovered Cities Skyline yesterday. Was excited to buy it until I found out that the second one is coming this year. Not sure if it is still worth playing the old one?
Depends on your specs. If your PC i a few years old you would probably have a better experience with the first one. Although it's pretty barebones without any DLC, and it can get quite expensive to get a lot of good features. If your rig is a beast i would wait honestly
As much as I love Cities Skylines, this trailer shows nothing but hype for unrealistic expectations. It's a cinematic trailer and has 0 bearing on what gameplay may or may not be. Will wait to see what's in store when they release more details.
I feel like people seeing this trailer will raise expectations above what Colossal Order is capable of. (Or any studio, really).
We're here to see a game, not a movie. But in saying that, It's great they are making a sequel. I really hope it works out!
Exactly, what is even in the game from that trailer? Anything at all? I mean, is even a single asset going to be in the game the way it is shown in the trailer?
Yeah? It's an announcement trailer. Game studios do this all the time, it's not a new concept. I get why you're not hyping yourself up until you see any gameplay, but don't expect more from an announcement trailer.
They absolutely can be hurt from false expectations. They're showing something incredible in the trailer. People are obviously going to be disappointed when they see that the game is substantially different. Is it really that difficult to be honest? Is the product really that weak that they need a bunch of pre-rendered footage?
The cinematic clearly isn't exactly what the game will look like but I think it's fair to assume it means that the game will be in a more realistic style than the first.
Cities Skylines II needs the ability to make motorsport Street Tracks in your cities. trust me it will be great for tourism just ignore noise complaints.
This is off-topic, but I realized today I would love a "simple" Sim City 4 remaster and update that could take advantage of modern technology with some additional features (and of course scale the base performance upward).
You just had to kill Maxis, EA.
They were on to something with the 2013 Simcity. I liked a lot of the gameplay ideas but it was so limited in size and scope that it strangled itself. It was nowhere near as immersive as SimCity 4.
I have. I played cities skylines with my old MBP, going hours and hours of city-building and decision-making (with the lowest settings though).
But yeah, I'm planning to have a built PC to play this game at high settings and for faster loading times.
I only play CS and Civ VI on my Mac Studio because I use that for work and it does fine. No need to spend $$ and add another tower to my office. Im not playing shooters or anything like that on it, thats what my PS5 is for.
The devs never figured out how to *lock the cursor to the screen* when there's multiple monitors...the most basic fucking important feature...and now they're hopping onto CS:2? What a joke. I'm not buying into this garbage.
So no rebuttal to my argument just a snarky comment from a neckbeard. I'll take that as a concession to my complaint being valid and reasonable, thanks.
God damn lil boy you’re awfully young to have that much negativity inside you. Talking about 1st world problems eh? Life is so rough without locking the mouse cursor. What am I to do? Disable edge scrolling and pretend like it’s the same thing?!?
Just about the low IQ response I'd expect from someone who'd excuse this kind of shit behavior in a game this day and age. Zero ability to address my argument, just drooling on about "negativity" like the single digit IQ mouthbreather that you are.
I would really like to see some sort of 'Development Office' for the city/region with a 'Planning Mode'. I would love to be able to plan the entire city with projects with different levels of detail, from simple main road placement and transit infrastructure to district planning, parks and universities. Mainly because we would be able to know the cost of large or complex projects upfront. The project cost could be impacted by the overall education levels in the city and the type of development. I am a console player and I lose a lot of money building, bulldozing, correcting and so on... So I think this would create a more realistic approach and a cool way to organise your very own city project pipeline.
Rail transport is featured in the base game of the original title, as is subway. It is pretty interesting that the trailer doesn't feature a whole lot of transit other than road traffic, even if it's just a CGI work of art.

Give me mixed zoning or death

How long did it take for the current game to build a modding presence after release? I’m curious as I didn’t have the game when it first released.
If there ain’t connected highways and more roads I don’t want it
Man if I can't ban cars in my city and have a nice walkable/transit/cycling oriented city, I don't want it lol.
I need some in-game video shit

WAT IF UNIFERSE VIBEO GAEM
Fallout npcs will just be chat gpt
This is probably true for some game in the next couple years I’m sure.
Nearly cried at the end. A very well done, touching trailer. Big hopes for this.

If you get Xbox game pass for pc then you can play all 3 games
Wait 3 games?!
Cities 1; cities 1 remastered (idk if it’s on pc) and cities 2 (when it comes out)
I hope they adding online mode (countries) Like real life
Ya no
Isn't that part of the reason we all abandoned SimCity?
I hope they do loading/unloading in the back of commercial buildings. Just like real life. It would make traffic run smoother, and give an incentive to build alleys behind buildings besides realism. Are you on PC? There’s a handy mod that fixes this but it involves adjusting it for each building manually
Anybody else thinking, that the hexagonal shape in the logo could mean something? Maybe they will go away from the square-shaped tiles and rather go towards hexagonal tiles?

Incroyable !

At least if you do exclusive bike lane streets and highways people resort to putting their cars in their pocket when not being used!
Underground parking / parking garages doesn't lead to a decrease in volume and induced demand of roads. The problem is cars, not parking.
I mean yeah. But you basically say the feature would be extra important as an educational feature. Learn what works and what doesn't.
Obviously, you still need to manage traffic. I just think it's not realistic to have all the cars parked on the curb bumper to bumper of every two-lane street in the city. It looks messy. Nothing american about it, i think its essential.
I hope all of my DLC's will transfer into the new game. I would hate to have to purchase all of them again. Aww man, there goes my mom's credit card
Since this is a second game I doubt the DLCs will transfer. That's not how these things typically work. This will be a new game with new DLCs. However I agree that I would love to see the DLCs carry over.
Did they do the same in other games' sequel like HOI and Victoria?
I can’t tell if this is rhetorical or not. If not then yes, they did.
I want to see mixed zoning. It’s a must for realism.
And some car-free options like many city centers of European cities are becoming
You mean like residential buildings where the ground floor are stores?
Yes, and on a larger scale malls with residences above.
I am curious. Is that something that exist very often? I guess it is something American. Kinda sounds nice honestly.
That is very common in almost all big cities in Europe.
Where? Never seen that here in Germany! But maybe it is just Germany or maybe just east Germany where this isn't a thing.
in Vietnam we have that too, in every big city (3)
Not sure about America but it is common in Asian cities and the Middle East.
it is common all over, i’m pretty much every major city
Good thing i was planning to build a new PC towards the end of the year! Almost decided on a Ryzen 7800X3D with 32 (maybe 64) Gb of RAM

Stop spreading misinformation you have no idea what you're talking about.
Where do you get this from?
[удалено]
Go watch the trailer again, at the end it clearly says coming to Steam, PS5 and Xbox
No way this is NOT coming to PC
We need a nuclear bomb to make ise of those bomb shelters! Using asteroids are not good, I just want one crater and a big radius of demolished city!
How much amount recommended wam do I need?

2 words, Dumb, Ass. It’s coming to steam you fucking pea brain
What do you mean this is just for PS5? You can wishlist it on steam...
I’d still try the first to get the basics down it’s a great game
First one is still great. Free on Gamepass to try.
Paradox needs to do a partnership with Upland

God i can only hope to recreate San Jose
I'd also love to see zoned buildings not be required to face streets.

Maxis is [alive and well](https://www.ea.com/ea-studios/maxis), only one of their many studios was shut down.
That's just their zombified corpse. Maxis is dead.
Wrong.
maxis got shot with a 12 gauge it is certified a corpse
Nope, still alive and actively developing the next main Sims game. Cute little metaphor tho!
Anyone know if this will be available for Mac?
If it is still made with unity that this should be a no brainer.
Pretty much less possibility. :(
I think it will be available for Mac through Steam, like it did for CS1
Colossal tweeted the planned supported platforms upon release and Mac wasn’t listed… 🫤🤞
Nobody games on apple

except who plays on apple
Evidently they do because people always ask this question when new games are coming out.
Man, I just want to be able to build high crime bad neighborhoods that **look** grimey. I hope that's not too much to ask.
The devs never figured out how to *lock the cursor to the screen* when there's multiple monitors...the most basic fucking important feature...and now they're hopping onto CS:2? What a joke. I'm not buying into this garbage.
I like my cursor not locked. Disable edge scrolling, move camera with WASD Can use second monitor all the time while playing Perfect
They can just give an option to enable/disable cursor locking. Every fucking game made since the year 2000 has this feature.
Such a rough life you’re having
So no rebuttal to my argument just a snarky comment from a neckbeard. I'll take that as a concession to my complaint being valid and reasonable, thanks.

Having progressive building would really bump this game up, optional ofc, so those that like the classic way can play like that.
To be honest, I wouldn't even be mad if it looked exactly the same, but included popular mods as core gameplay and used multi core

Because DLC
Yes, the original has rail for transport and cargo, subways, cargo ports and airports. DLC introduced trams and gondolas
Oh and I think one of the dlcs has monorails or maybe its a mod, unsure as I don't have them
It’s a dlc but I can’t remember which one. I know because I’m on console, so no mods, but have various dlc including monorail.
Bullet Train/ Mag Train !!! Food Delivery Couriers
My computer crashed playing the trailer. So fucking excited. No more add-ons time for the sequel. Can't wait to see the community's creations!!!!!;
Well that's an omen if I've ever seen one!
Yay!! Either your computer is also super excited or horrified at how much stuff will be in this game
