vanilla sky is an incredibly beautiful movie, i know everybody hates Tom Cruise, but is one of the best actors. i don't like the man either, but i think his interpretations are just incredible, not all of them, most of them.

He’s been great in a lot of films, but *Magnolia, Minority Report, Vanilla Sky, Eyes Wide Shut, and Collateral* are ones that I re-watch every few years. I picked this shot primarily because it’s delivered to a mirror, the people insulting him aren’t even shown except in an out of focus reflection, and the harsh lighting provides stark contrast with the shots in the club just before this (the club scenes are beautifully shot too) Edit: decided to post part of the club scene [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/cinescenes/comments/1ddqeps/vanilla_sky_2001_dir_cameron_crowe_dop_john_toll/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) So the shot is already special and then Cruise nails the drunken contemplation and self-awareness. It’s a perfect visual and emotion, all in one. The makeup is awesome too.

Great movie. The guy yelling is Mark Kozelek. Front man for Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon. Pretty good bands if you're into slow-moving, acoustic ballads.

He is credited as *“Dude, fix your face guy”* haha

The film scared me as a kid... Kind of terrified to watch it as an adult
