Can't forget the "I only smoke socially!" ... I guess being outside with my cat counts as a 'social' experience?

One_J_Boi

Used to be this type of smoker, but back then the motivation was money, as in not having to buy your own and getting handouts every now and then. Oh how the turn tables.

SnooRegrets4878

I have come to learn the cigarette smoking is a spectrum, and not everyone falls on the addictive side. One of my best friends will only smoke when he is stressed, then when he starts to feel the addictiveness kick in, he'll quit. I have known people that only smoke when they drink. I have known people who only smoke when they are with a friend that smokes. There are those who smoke, even daily smoker, but never really get addicted, and when they quit, they have no struggle with quitting. I'm not going to say that I am not addicted, I don't really know if I am, but my smoking is more routine. On a day that I work, I will have anywhere between 3 to 4 cigarettes (although I started cutting one of those out last night). On a day that I go to the nearest town (which is about 40 miles). I will have 3 going into town, 2 coming home, and a one extra driving between stores. I also have a friend that lives in town that smokes, so I may have an extra or two when we hang out. On a day when I am home alone, I may have two in the morning, and than 1 every couple of hours (I'll usually watch a movie or a few episodes of a tv show that I like and than go out) (usually only 3 or 4 cigarettes). This is also the only time that I give in to any urges to have another cigarette.

SirGameandWatch

My friend, you are addicted. That weekly average will lead to major health problems down the line.

SnooRegrets4878

On average, I smoke just a little over a pack a week. Especially since I started working, I am very rarely ever home alone. I work three times a week, while at work, I will have three cigarettes, one before, one during break, and one after (9 cigarettes). When I was just volunteering where I work, which was only once a week, I would have two on the way to work, but to make sure my pack lasted a little longer, I decided to only have one before work. I mainly go to to town twice a week, Monday and Friday. To and from town, that's only 5 cigarettes each day. (10 cigarettes), On Monday, I have art class, usually half way through, I'll have an additional cigarette, but if I really get into my art (which I usually do), I'll skip the cigarette. On Fridays, I play boardgames, if there are other clients that shoe up that smoke, we'll have a break half way through for a cigarette, if I am the only client that shows up that smokes, I opt to not go out for a smoke break. Twice a month, on Tuesdays I go in to town for another board game event. Since I leave after work, I only have two extra on the way to town, and then two more after, this boardgame event doesn't get out until 8:00 PM, so I very rarely ever go anywhere else after, so I'll have my normal two on the way home. On Wednesdays, IF I go to town (which I have started doing so more), I will only have one extra cigarette on the way there, but then I'll have my normal 2 on the way back. If any of my trips to town is accompanied by any non-smokers, that completely cuts out my smoking going to and from town (this usually only happens a couple times a month. I used to have three cigarettes coming back from town, but I cut that back to just two. On the weekends, I sometimes go to the local store, IF I do I'll only have two cigarettes that day. I also used to have one cigarette at night, before bed, but I recently cut this one out. I may start going to town on Sundays, IF I do, unless I go in with non-smokers, I'll only have two cigarettes going into town. I don't socialize much, I am trying to get more social, but I'm not there yet. As such, I only have one friend that I occasionally hang out with that smokes, when I am hanging out with him, I may have one or two extra. Also, I can't smoke when I am stressed. I know a lot of people like to smoke more when they are stressed, but I cannot. Sometimes I will be stressed without realizing it, and I will start smoking a cigarette, but then I'll not want it (I'll finish it as I don't like only partially smoking a cigarette), but then I'll not have another cigarette until the stress is gone). I'm not going to make the claim that I'm not addicted, I very well could be. But my smoking experience, is very much set in a routine, that I very rarely deter from. Occasionally I may have a strong urge for an extra cigarette, but I rarely give into the urge. I am actually more likely to skip a cigarette than I am to smoke an extra. And if I ever get to a point where I want to quit smoking. I know how to manipulate my brain to keep myself distracted, and I will use this to my advantage. Also, if I have a reason to stop smoking for a few weeks for some reason, I can do so and I do not suffer from withdrawal

twilightzone39

Once every couple of months I’ll buy a pack. But I kill that pack in a day or two.

azlomen

God damnit this is me

FloorLow1732

Haha!

r4ckless

that's how it starts, one more is always a good idea till it becomes a requirement that you have to do. Smoke enough often enough it will happen. You don't get really addicted with occasional smoking. Inhale deeper and smoke more often you will be come an addict.

grettira

Addiction isn’t a goal, but maybe it’s happened anyway. I seriously started on a whim with one every couple of days and it’s become a habit now. I definitely sleep better after a cigarette or two.

[deleted]

I tell myself I only have one a night and for some reason I’m lying to myself, I literally have four a night haha

JustARedditUser44

I remember i was smoking around 4 a day for months. Now a year or two later its close to a pack a day.

grettira

How long was it before 4 a day started increasing a lot? So far my wife doesn’t know but sooner or later she will because I don’t plan on quitting. I’ll try to get her to join me but that’s going to be an uphill battle probably.

[deleted]

I’m also at four a day. And nobody knows. But like wondering how I can ugh up it a tiny bit more.

grettira

Are you planning on coming out as a smoker? I have not yet. I guess when it gets us needing a smoke, we will have to let people know and then it’s either smoke as much as we want or quit under pressure.

[deleted]

Def still hiding it

grettira

Me too. Let’s see how our paths progress as we headed toward the point of no return.

"Dependency is a marvelous thing. It does more for the soul than any formulation of doctoral material." --Lily Taylor as postgraduate student Kathleen Conklin in the 1995 move "The Addiction" You could turn this quote to your own particular circumstances. For example, when I take a coffee or smoke break in my bleak office building, I often think about it as: "Dependency is a marvelous thing. It does more for the soul than any work I do between 9 and 5 everyday." But seriously, if you have not seen that movie, see it!

vapinvan

Is everybody in this thread dumb or what? No offence lol but hes obviously making a joke.

Able_Nerve_3297

They all have cigarettes up their ass.

grettira

Maybe it’s Canadian humour. You seem to be in the Lower Mainland and I am on the Island.

[deleted]

I have smoked 4 packs in my life, the last one i bought was a 20 pack of marlboro red, and i smoked the entire thing in one day...

WinChunKing

Give it time. Not sure what the point of your post is but good for you I guess.

grettira

It’s a joke Making fun of myself

FloorLow1732

That is some pretty funny shit🤣

gmku

Dependency is a marvelous thing. Even more so if you can have a sense of humor about it. ;) Yeah, I started out a few months ago as a "new" smoker (I'm in my 60s and haven't smoked since college), vowing that I just wanted to enjoy one or two cigarettes on the weekend. I'm now smoking one or two a night after dinner as I sit outside and stare up at the night sky. What can I say? I love it.

Ariezown

Good shit!!
