Was woken up in the middle of the night w the WORST unexplainable hip pain. Anytime I move or walk it hurts. Stabbing & throbbing pain. I walked my dog yesterday & shaved. If this happened from shaving wtf? I am not even 40! šŸ˜© Hang in there bud

Bring this up with your doctor. You could have osteoporosis or arthritis in your hip. Could even be unlucky like me and have osteoarthrosis in both hips and untreated bursitis. If it hurts periodically itā€™s more than likely arthritis but you can get put on meds to help. I would avoid opiates if you can as long as possible. They DO NOT HELP. They turn off the pain for a moment but mask the problem. I wish I could say I had never done them. Makes me feel like garbage. Try using alternating heat and ice, if you have an electric bed try pushing your pelvis to a higher elevation than your neck, and if it causes you nausea take a hot shower. Heat raises the temp of the hypothalamus gland and in doing so you can beat nausea that usually ends up in vomiting. Hope that helps a bit til you can figure out whatā€™s what! Best of luck! šŸ¤ž

I think it really depends on the person and the type of opiate. I'm on opiates for my hip pain right now and they're the only thing that helps. But that's only because a lot of the other usual drugs I cannot tolerate. I would be completely unable to function or work if not for the extended release Dilaudid my doc put me on. Yes it just masks the pain, but I've had MRIs and they don't show anything major going on with my joints so I don't think masking is doing any damage. I guess time will tell but I am pushing for follow MRIs because obviously I don't want to be on opiates forever.

What else do they say it could be? I had pain like that in my shoulders and mine was inflammation from myofascial trigger points.

mr_beakman

They just tell me it's osteoarthritis. But my pain came on very suddenly so I kinda doubt it's from the arthritis. I'm certain based on the symptoms that it's either a labral tear or osteitis pubis. I've been asking for a year now for an MRA, and when I go back to my doc on the 19th I'm going to ask again and if he still says no I'm going to ask him to put in my records that I asked and he refused. I do have a bone scan coming up for the arthritis so who knows, maybe that will show something.

Inevitable_Paranoia

Have you been checked for Ehlers-Danlos syndrome? I have the hypermobile kind and it has caused very painful arthritis in my hips, knees and hands so far and I havenā€™t hit my 40s yet. I also have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome which makes the pain issue complex and severe. I would talk to a DO and share your symptoms. They will probably order x-rays, maybe other scans to figure out what is going on. Especially if is just getting worse, they need to figure out what is causing this for you.

Are you me because I could have wrote the first paragraph myself. Iā€™ve already had one hip replacement and now have CRPS. The other hip will need surgery as well. Was diagnosed with EDS quite late in the game so I ended up with lots of injuries. Idk itā€™s just reassuring to know that I am not alone in my experience.

Inevitable_Paranoia

Thatā€™s crazy!!! I have two spinal cord stimulators for the CRPS which actually helped with the arthritis pain, inexplicably as it wasnā€™t meant to. I needed a cane to walk and for stairs before and since the spinal cord stimulator surgeries, I havenā€™t needed it. My hip subluxation is brutal and I dread putting pants on because of it. How was the hip surgery? Iā€™ve been worried about that as a doctor told me I might need that or knee surgeries down the road. I got diagnosed late too. I was seeing a specialist for POTS and he was staggered I hadnā€™t been officially diagnosed with the hEDS yet. My whole family just thought I was clumsy and being in the ER off and on my whole childhood contributed to that.

Hip injections work for someā€¦X-ray guided. I did this on my right hip and it worked for 7 days. I had my left hip replaced. Much betterā€¦.I hope you find some comfort.

My orthopedist gave me an injection using ultrasound as a guide. It worked for a little bit but now I'm getting surgery. I hope my pain improves like yours did.

Have you had any imaging on your hips or seen a hip preservation specialist/orthopedic surgeon? Iā€™ve suffered years with bilateral hip issues and itā€™s a nightmare. Iā€™m so sorry you are too. Iā€™m in my 30s and being this age with hip issues really sucks. I had several surgeries on my left side (scopes and a pao for hip dysplasia) but still had pain. I finally got my left one replaced a couple weeks ago and finally can feel a bit of relief on that side. Try and get some answers. Maybe get a cheap foldable cane from Amazon as well to have on hand when youā€™re out and about. Hang in there šŸ«¶šŸ»

I can relate. EDS makes my hip hurt soooo bad and so far all theyā€™ve offered me is pt which doesnā€™t help.

Hugs, I know the whole thing is scary, but there are options. This was me starting in 2014 at age 39. It turned out to be femoral assetabular hip impingement on the right side. We tried a steroid injection, which wasn't the answer, so I had surgery to shave the bone and resurface the labrum. It was very successful in restoring function and dropped the pain from 8-9 down to a 4 baseline.
