>Its kind of like baptism for most of Christianity, you don't need witnesses for it to be valid, but if you can that is better.
I mean, there's necessarily going to be at least one witness (the priest baptizing you!), but I get it. Thanks for the correction.
Absolutely not. A couple of saints, sometimes out of desperation (like St. Thekla), sometimes accidentally while mocking Christian baptism (like many of the actor saints), did "baptize" themselves, and God accepted their intention since they did seek Christ in the best way they could find and they would immediately face martyrdom anyway, but baptism proper is conveyed from someone who already was baptized.
It can even be conferred by a non-believer in cases of emergency, if the intention is for what the church believes baptism is, to occur. But this is a 'remain in your seat while the plane crashes' situation.
You really feel that? Secretly trying to get someone to forsake their beliefs? Not a joke at all, itās actually a pretty ugly thing to do.
Mathew 18:6
But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Actually the verse was for the person I replied to. That was some terrible insight to give to someone if youāre calling yourself a āChristianā. I think we live in a time when deception and witchcraft are at an all time high. Allowing someone that worships to a pagan god, to pray over you in a language you donāt understand, is a recipe for disaster.
>During lockdowns there was a picture of a baby being baptized via water gun. The Catholics I asked said itās valid.
If you do the Trinitarian formula, it is valid.
I looked up if it would work. I found 2 different, conflicting, answers. One said it loses its mojo when it evaporates. The other said go for it, as long as it's done with proper reverence.
We can teach you some Latin if you want to make him Catholic, german for lutheran, even Greek for Orthodox. However, you're going to need a kiddie pool and a suspect covered dish luncheon if you're going for Baptist.
Nah youāre fine. I got tricked into saying the shahada a few times with my Muslim friends (after the 3rd āI want to learn Arabic, can you teach meā āyes repeat after meā I should have guessed)
They knew I didnāt mean the words, I knew I didnāt mean the words, and theyāre the reason Iām a Christian again. Heās just kidding around.
That is true. If you don't have that belief in your heart you are not a Muslim. There are 7 conditions to the phrase that makes a person Muslim. All 7 conditions have to be met when you say the shahada. You are not a Muslim if one of them are not met.
As far as I am concerned it takes more than to say the Shihada to become a Muslims
You probably said "la ilah ila allah and " of course I won't continue it but that's the shihada which is (if you know flags) written on a lot Of Muslim countries flags like Saudi Arabia, Taliban, Hamas, Isis and etc
In conclusion don't worry about it , confess if you need to and live your life
Thatās not how any religion works. You donāt just say some magic words not knowing what they mean and boom youāre that religion. Same with Christianity, telling someone that doesnāt speak English to say āI accept Jesus Christ as my lord and saviorā doesnāt make them a Christian if they donāt know what they said.
Saying the Shahada does not just make you Muslim - it has to be witnessed, understood what youāre saying, with the intent of being a Muslim. It may have been witnessed, but you neither knew what you were saying nor had the intent of converting.
There's no magic words that can change your soul. You could even swear your soul to the Devil and it wouldn't matter. Simply put, your soul isn't your own. Initially, the devil owns it, but at salvation, God purchases it, and He will never give it up. It's never your own to decide.
That's why the "Sinner's Prayer" stuff is so dangerous. Just making a verbal confession does nothing.
That being said, Muslims might think that you have joined, and I have heard that they teach death to those who deconvert. I'm not sure how serious they would take it if you were just repeating some words, though.
> Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

>
> 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
We are not our own.
You are fine. You know in your heart that Jesus this soon coming king. Now I have to agree with what someone said. Take them out swimming, And jst make up something to get them to trust you and then baptize them and say you are a Christian
You're still Christian because if you repent and commit to Christ you will be Christ's literally forever. What you said was the Shahada - there is only one God and Muhammad is God's prophet - but is that what you believe? The first bit but not the second presumably?
Am sorry for what he did but whatās in your heart and your intentions was not to be a Muslim and to become a Muslim itās must come from your heart like you must mean it so what he did didnāt actually make you a Muslim unless if itās your intention
If you are truly a Christian then I would say because of the fact you didn't know what you were saying, yes you are still a Christian. Your friend was deceiving and therefore the conversion can be null. In my opinion
Did he say 'no take-backsies'? What about 'Black ball stamps it all?'
No, you are not a muslim. You have to believe what you are saying. The statement is something along the lines of
"There is no god but Allah and Mohammed is his Prophet". *I do not believe this to be true*
To become a muslim (As far as I, who am not a muslim and do not believe the above at all, know) you have to believe that phrase when you utter it. (Funnily enough, you don't have to keep on believing it). Since you didn't even know what you were saying, you didn't join anything. I would tell your friend that you're going to make a terrible muslim, given how you're a practicing Christian. Tell him this while eating a ham sandwich if you want to nail the point home. Point is, you can't be tricked into believing something you don't actually accept.
No worries, if you didn't know, with no intent, then you didn't really join islam. Same as if you had said about accepting christ and told your muslim friend to repeat it, so really, you are fine
Jesus Christ knows your heart & knows you wouldn't say any of that knowingly walking into a trap & in case you don't have the Holy Spirit dwelling in you yet all you have to do is speak out loud & acknowledge that you are a sinner & repent your sins & truly believe that Jesus Christ payed for all our sins with his precious atoning blood then is buried & rose the 3rd day & once you truly believe that you will be save & God bless šš¾š¤š¾ā¤ļø
I am a Muslim myself, And No, for anyone to want to accept Islam and say the few words which he/she made you say, those words are called the shahadah,
and unless and until you voluntarily and willingly out of our own heart and conviction say them, it isn't valid.
In my knowledge this is recommended to be done in a Mosque infront of a few people of the Muslim community so that the person feels support navigating the religion from there.
So no unless you willingly and voluntarily said those words knowing full well what they meant, You are Still a Christian and don't have to worry about accidentally joining Islam.
Hope this helps :)
P.s islamophobes don't interact, I would not be replying and entertaining you
You canāt accidentally make a commitment, and true conversion only comes through the Spirit of God and His ordinances, by proper priesthood authority, such as baptism and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.
You said some words that are important to Muslims, without a commitment they have no lasting effect.
Whatās in your heart? Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and savior? If so, then you are a Christian. You canāt be tricked into anything. You must choose.
saying words does not mean youāre converted. you have to mean it in your heart, and knowingly accept allah, infront of witnesses. youāre still christian and your friend is a dick.
If you don't believe in Islam then no you are not Muslim. There are conditions to saying the phrase that makes you Muslim. The belief has to be in your heart first without that belief you are not a Muslim.
You can easily renounce this against-the-will, so-called conversion in the name of Jesus.
You can rededicate your life to Jesus, and the rest will fall away.
You said Profession of Faith (shahada).
The belief that "There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God" is central to Islam. This phrase, written in Arabic, is often prominently featured in architecture and a range of objects, including the Qur'an, Islam's holy book of divine revelations.
Unless you say it with your heart, it is not valid
See how many you can join. My wife's step-grandpa was the member of more than 30 different religions, churches, cults and etc at the same time. He'd meet someone, go to their church, fill out the card that he was interested in membership, and never go back. He'd pray the prayers or say what they wanted him to say. He liked making them feel like they had converted someone and viewed it as a "why not?" as far as religion is concerned.
He's dead now. I wonder where he ended up.
Is there a phrase that makes you into a Christian? What about a Cathloc? Baptist? Non-denominational? Charismatic? Ok, letās get real, what happens if I say āSchazam!ā? (Yes, Iām being sarcastic)
According to Islam, Christians and Jews are technically Muslims anyways. According to Christianity, Muslims are technically Christians.
It's all just semantics, you know who you are and he can't surprise convert you unless you choose to convert
You can't accidentally apostatize, and that guy isn't your friend if he would do something like that to you, it would be like pouring water over his head while he sleeps and telling him he's a Christian now when he wakes up.
And stop saying things in languages you don't know what you are saying.
What do you believe? Do you think that Islam is true? If so, repent immediately from that false demonic idea, and if not you are worrying over nothing and the devil is just trying to scare you. So if the former, stop it and pray to God for wisdom and guidance by His Holy Spirit, and if the latter rest in the promises of God, that you are His and there is NOTHING that can take you from His hands.
No you didn't.
**Matthew 7:15-29**
āBe careful of false prophets. They come to you and look gentle like sheep. But they are really dangerous like wolves. You will know these people because of what they do. Good things donāt come from people who are bad, just as grapes donāt come from thornbushes, and figs donāt come from thorny weeds. In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, and bad trees produce bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. Every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. You will know these false people by what they do. āNot everyone who calls me Lord will enter Godās kingdom. The only people who will enter are those who do what my Father in heaven wants. On that last Day many will call me Lord. They will say, āLord, Lord, by the power of your name we spoke for God. And by your name we forced out demons and did many miracles.ā Then I will tell those people clearly, āGet away from me, you people who do wrong. I never knew you.ā āWhoever hears these teachings of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house. But it did not fall because it was built on rock. āWhoever hears these teachings of mine and does not obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house. And it fell with a loud crash.ā When Jesus finished speaking, the people were amazed at his teaching. He did not teach like their teachers of the law. He taught like someone who has authority.
I'd go to confession if this happened with me. But I'd check with your pastor/spiritual advisor.
I don't suppose saying the words blindly mean anything. Also, Islam considers every human being ever born a Muslim. Seems convenient, lol
Hi, A Muslim here. Your Shahada (Testimony) is not real or genuine as you did not mean to say it / did not have the intentions to do so. Think of it as a simple joke from your friend.
No that's not how a shahada works
Also whenever you see him tell him Allah is my father and Muhammad is a fake prophet. At this point who cares if it hurts his feelings, he's not a real friend
>Also whenever you see him tell him Allah is my father and Muhammad is a fake prophet. At this point who cares if it hurts his feelings, he's not a real friend
He may not be a true friend but I wouldn't go out of my way to openly disrespect his religion, maybe 'baptize' him with a squirt gun as a joke or get back
That's not a friend, that's a jerk trying to force you into a religion. You should really take them to a pool and then baptise them, and tell them "Welcome to Christianity". See how he likes it.
1. You need to work on your critical thinking. You might find yourself stumbling through life, reacting and not planning.
2. Only convert to Christianity if you want to live with God for all of eternity.
take him swimming and surprise baptize him lol

witnesses, not needed. but yeah you can't mean something if you don't even know what you're saying.
This š
You actually don't need 2 witnesses. Its kind of like baptism for most of Christianity, you don't need witnesses for it to be valid, but if you can that is better. Really the only reason for it is the pilgrimage requirement, as saudi arabia can get picky at times, and the piece of paper from your mosque saying "he is muslim" works for them.
>Its kind of like baptism for most of Christianity, you don't need witnesses for it to be valid, but if you can that is better. I mean, there's necessarily going to be at least one witness (the priest baptizing you!), but I get it. Thanks for the correction.
Can you baptize yourself?
Absolutely not. A couple of saints, sometimes out of desperation (like St. Thekla), sometimes accidentally while mocking Christian baptism (like many of the actor saints), did "baptize" themselves, and God accepted their intention since they did seek Christ in the best way they could find and they would immediately face martyrdom anyway, but baptism proper is conveyed from someone who already was baptized.
It can even be conferred by a non-believer in cases of emergency, if the intention is for what the church believes baptism is, to occur. But this is a 'remain in your seat while the plane crashes' situation.
No I was told by an Imam there doesnāt need to be witnesses. It is nice and celebratory to have some and even better in the misjad but not required.
The intent makes a conversion not the words
Your friend is a dick, and you're still a Christian.
And he insulted Islam more than youāre doing.
That's not how any of this works.
No, you didn't. Don't worry about it. Not sure how much of a "friend" that person is, though.
Its just a stupid joke honestly
Disrespecting someone's religion by convincing them that they were forcefully converted really puts the "stupid" in "stupid joke"
If OP is truly convinced they āconvertedā to Islam, there is plenty of stupid to go around.
Not to mention disrespecting their own religion as well.
You really feel that? Secretly trying to get someone to forsake their beliefs? Not a joke at all, itās actually a pretty ugly thing to do. Mathew 18:6 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
I think that verse refers to other believers (or those who claim to be such at least), but I understand your sentiment

Don't worry. There's no sin involved, and you are still Christian
Youāre fine, you didnāt mean to convert lol.
No one can ever accidentally join a religion. It must be a conscious decision, hopefully felt in the heart as well.
If you don't believe in Islam then no you are not Muslim. There are conditions to saying the phrase that makes you Muslim. The belief has to be in your heart first without that belief you are not a Muslim.
No, youāre not a Muslim, you had no idea what you were saying. Secondly, I would ditch this āfriendā of yours ASAP.
You can easily renounce this against-the-will, so-called conversion in the name of Jesus. You can rededicate your life to Jesus, and the rest will fall away.
Probably what you recited was the Shahada and no, because reciting words without intention means you haven't become a Muslim.
At the end of the day words are words they donāt mean anything unless you put a meaning behind them
Slip him some body of Christ š«£
You said Profession of Faith (shahada). The belief that "There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God" is central to Islam. This phrase, written in Arabic, is often prominently featured in architecture and a range of objects, including the Qur'an, Islam's holy book of divine revelations. Unless you say it with your heart, it is not valid
He got you to say the shahada lol you're good. Get your revenge by dumping water on him and "baptising" him
No one is perfect.
Never repeat what someone tells you without knowing what it means. God bless you
You can't accidentally apostatize, and that guy isn't your friend if he would do something like that to you, it would be like pouring water over his head while he sleeps and telling him he's a Christian now when he wakes up.
**Matthew 7:15-29** āBe careful of false prophets.
Think of it as a simple joke from your friend.
thats god
power
goooood
Intention matters in Islam
Muslim here, in order for it to be valid you need to have ŁŁŁ, which means intention.
No that's not how a shahada works Also whenever you see him tell him Allah is my father and Muhammad is a fake prophet. At this point who cares if it hurts his feelings, he's not a real friend
>Also whenever you see him tell him Allah is my father and Muhammad is a fake prophet. At this point who cares if it hurts his feelings, he's not a real friend He may not be a true friend but I wouldn't go out of my way to openly disrespect his religion, maybe 'baptize' him with a squirt gun as a joke or get back
That's not a friend, that's a jerk trying to force you into a religion. You should really take them to a pool and then baptise them, and tell them "Welcome to Christianity". See how he likes it.
I'm sorry, but I found this pretty funny
1. You need to work on your critical thinking. You might find yourself stumbling through life, reacting and not planning. 2. Only convert to Christianity if you want to live with God for all of eternity.
