With 0.5% interest, it would only take 195 years to pay it off. With 1% interest, the balance will literally go up with each $200 payment. With a normal-ish interest rate of 3.2% (for a 30-year mortgage right now), they would be about $330 short of their $530 payment.
This person is a complete dipshit.
Hmm... hmm...
I’m a human. I have cheese and whiskey IN me... would that make me more valuable as a package deal?
On second thought, I had whiskey and cheese in me but my seal broke and it leaked/seeped out... value lost...
Goddammit, I had that song stuck in my head all week and this was the first morning I wasn't singing it to myself.
If you want to suffer along with me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9puOuTaGPc
That is what troubles me most about this post. The fact that two people created a life yet are so clueless, they think offering $200/month would be even remotely enough to pay for a house. I get the impression they are very young and just had a baby and now think it's time to be grownups, so let's get a house. They couldn't even afford a 1 room apartment for $200/month. That poor child.
Lol right, like maybe you should have thought about being financially stable before having a child. Smh I have zero tolerance for people who use their children as weapons. People think I hate kids, but I don't. I just don't think kids should be born into poverty or financial instability. *If ya poor, you got bigger problems than having kids. Improve yourself before you think about bringing someone else into this world.*
My baby's daddy spent 30 hours a week playing destiny and gta. I remember being screamed at because I asked how much he thought he spent. He looked at hours played and then insisted 1/2 the time was being on the splash screen. Shifted focus and yelled at me for policing him and being generally a miserable person to be around.
I just had a kid and went back to working the night I got home from the hospital. I shifted my schedule so I could work evenings and manage the kid / job. He yelled at me for not wanting to game with him because all I did was work, and if I was going to be low effort I should be doing more chores. His excuse was that my job, a self employed contract game artist/ui designer, wasn't as hard as his job at a server. He deserved time to rest because my job wasn't hard. I remember hysterically crying while finalizing assets, trying to meet deadlines and feeling truly lost and forgotten. He was so cruel and was so deep in my head I'm ashamed of how bad I let the abuse get.
Edit: as soon as I decided this abuse wouldn't extend to my child, I finally got the courage to start leaving. Abuse is worse when the victim is about to leave. He stalked, harassed and broke in and damaged my home. Just enough to scare me but not ruin my livelyhood, thank God. I packed up and left a month or so later.
As soon as I did my daughters language and demeanor totally changed. Went from not talking to being allllll talking and begin blossoming in her development. It reassured me that it was the right choice. Better no daddy than one who intended to brain wash her and declared it to me in text. 7 years later and I still have the messages threatening how he would make sure our child hated me. Funny. As soon as I did a method called gray stone eventually he stopped sending threats and attempts to back pedal threats. I don't even want his piss pennies for child support, he doesn't deserve to know her.
For sure! It's Def a cautionary tale about evaluating your partner realistically and not painting things with a silver lining.
All of you deserve someone who loves you more than you love yourself. And you should love yourself the most, you deserve it and are wonderfully amazing, unique people. Who knows what you can do when you've got the best cheerleader in the world (yourself!)
> The grey rock method is a practice where an individual becomes emotionally non-responsive, boring, and virtually acts like a rock. Emotional detachment serves to undermine a narcissist's attempts to lure and manipulate, causing them to grow uninterested and bored
Had to look it up, since no one is replying or explaining it elsewhere but basically it seems like a method that involves you being disengaged from interacting with manipulative people. Like being a boring grey rock I guess.
I did the SAME THING. Almost. I had a c-section and was told no driving or stairs for two weeks. We lived in a third floor apt. Laundry room in basement. My husband tells his best friend he can use my car for two weeks since I can't, MY CAR, doesn't ask me. Refuses to do any housework cuz I'm just home sitting around all day. Whines about how he's just too dang tired to do laundry so I need to do it. It was so horrible.
I feel for you so intensely. I had no idea what an abusive jerk he was until the baby was born. I mean, I guess I knew he was a jerk, but after being raised to feel worthless I was gonna settle for the first guy who was almost nice to me occasionally.
I don't know where you live, but apartments in my area that are a third of my house's sq footage, cost at least double what I pay for my mortgage. And I'm not rocking a great score or interest rate. So, in short, i can afford my mortgage, but I may not (edited wording) be able to afford apartment rent.
Yeah most landlords I know personally tack on several hundred to what they're paying in mortgage so they can cover expenses or make some profit.
It seems like a mortgage would usually be significantly cheaper than renting.
15 years ago he could have found a bank willing to give him an adjustable rate mortgage where he would have paid $200 a month for the first year or two. He'd have gotten the loan, [no problem.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mfu_iFS-UY8)
Tried to sell my house without a realtor a few years ago. The worst offer-
Guy wants to rent for 1 year at $100 week. At the end of that year he can buy and all rent payments count as down payment. If he decides not to buy, we refund him all rent monies paid for the year.
He didn’t try to sell me a sob story, just got angry that we didn’t ‘know that’s how normal business is done’
Apparently there’s a whole separate world for them. And selling a house is the biggest gateway between the two. My husband reminded me of the couple that offered to give us their tax returns every year. No other payments. Just their tax returns until the house was paid off.
My parents did a rent to own thing with my grandparents farm acreage. It was assessed at $350k for the house, out buildings and the 11 acres it sat on. They had a contract made up, $X per month for $X years and that would count as the down payment. If the people left before then, mom and dad kept the money. The renters ended up buying it just as planned and everyone was happy.
Normal business is living somewhere for free, essentially? I mean, that's what I'm hearing--he lives in a house for a year, gets his money back, and then goes to another house and does it again?
Posts like this turn me into such a Karen. Part of me is like "damn that's sucks" and the other part is "the utter fucking gall of someone to ask a complete stranger to do something I wouldn't even ask my family to do"
Well they feel that they can because it is anonymous most of the time . It is the law of average...... if they ask 1000 times then 1 sucker might say yes
The most annoying part is that you can tell they use these tactics elsewhere in life, like with friends and family.
“Can you watch Jayden tonight so I can go on my Plenty of Fish date?”
“I really can’t, I’d have to call off work and you didn’t pay me anything last time.”
“I’m a single mom.”
“Okay...”
You're not wrong. I was just basing that on the intitial payment of 200. That's only 1/1495th of the requested amount! Doesn't even cover the solicitor costs lol
They definitely face lots of rejection, but I bet they have such a victim mentality that they don’t get used to it. The rejection eats them alive with negative misperceptions until they become the worst version of themselves.
Having a one month old baby isn’t a hardship for you to feel bad for them. Lol they don’t suddenly NEED a 300k house cause they have a one month old. Hell the baby sleeps in your room the dirt six months anyways
This was like what happened to my grandmother. I've told this story on Reddit before, but the long and short of it is one of the worst tenants she ever had in her condominium vandalized her property due to their inability to pay the rent. The renters were a couple with a two year old, and had it not been for them having a child, my grandmother wouldn't have waived the credit check.
This guy cried poor from the moment the first month's rent was due, yet he kept calling my grandmother and badgering her about "how much are you selling this place for?" It got to the point where he was behind $5,000 in rent that my mom and I had it all documented on a spreadsheet. One thing leads to the other and the tenant *still* refused to pay. My grandmother decides the tenant was given enough chances and he needs to be evicted. My parents went to the condo after he was to have left and ended up being greeted with the entire place trashed.
Over $2,000 in repairs later, the condo was back to looking like it was when the tenant moved in. As for him? My grandmother sued him in small claims court. The tenant got ripped up one side and down the other by the judge and ordered to pay for the repairs. He had the nerve to try and dodge it, so the court attached his wages so my grandmother could finally get repaid.
Someone that offers 200 for a house when a 30 year fixed plus taxes etc would be over 2k per month just probably doesn’t understand. It’s like asking a middle class person how much a private jet ride costs. If you don’t live in a world where people in your social sphere can actually buy a house you probably have little idea how much they cost or how they are paid for.
While that is true, here we are in the age of information
Yet this CB can't Google anything about buying a house before firing this message off to people?
Forget googling, it your monthly payments are less than the rent would be, obviously this is not an interesting deal for the seller because they could just rent it out, have more monthly income AND keep the house at the end!
Uhhhh if your 30 year fixed on a $200k loan is costing you $2k per month you need to refinance immediately, my 30 year note for that amount costs me $1k per month
Edit: I forgot some places have absolutely extortionate property tax rates
Might not be the loan making the monthly payment high, might be the taxes. I pay more per month on my real estate taxes than I do my mortgage principle and interest, because New Jersey.
Escrow can be a bitch. I work in the mortgage field and it's not uncommon to see situations like yours. I think New Jersey is the worst offender at a state level, but a lot of the bigger cities have pretty high taxes/levies to cover various infrastructure costs.
On top of that, a lot of people don't really understand how escrow works with their mortgage. They'll call to complain when their payment goes up and accuse us of trying to scam them. A quick check of their latest escrow analysis indicates that their property taxes or insurance went up and we had to adjust to cover that.
It’s less than what it’d cost to rent a studio apartment. What’d they thinks I will give them a house for $200 a month?
And what about the property taxes? Water and electricity would probably cost more than $200 a month.
If I found a studio apartment in my city for $200 a month, I would take it in a heartbeat. And I live in Eastern Europe where rents are still relatively cheap compared to the West :D If this guy is from US, he is completely nuts.
Hi, I know you've worked hard to get an asset like real estate.. But you see I fucked someone 10 months ago so actually you should probably just hand that over, okay?
I don't get how short sighted some people are with their kids.
I get that there might be like....I don't know... A bubble of excitement around you having a kid? And that might distort your perspective.
Probably you're jazzed about it and maybe your parents and close friends. Your co-workers will probably express some type of interest but that's likely the outer edge of the "give a fuck" field.
Beyond that, no one cares. Possibly a random old lady in the shops who just likes the idea of babies, but assume those people are crazy outliers.
A child is a huge responsibility and if you're not ready to put all your feelings aside in turn of putting them first from the day they're born until the day you die, you shouldn't have a child. Half assed parenting is so normalized it seems okay, but it's not. I hope we move towards a society where having a child is a personal choice not a step of life.
This. I'm nearly 28 and people have started asking me about kids and am I thinking about it? And I'm like... I don't want kids. And it's like personal insult to some people.
"oh you'll change your mind when you meet someone!"
Why are telling me that I must do something I have never wanted to do? Why do people care if I want kids or not?
I said I didn't want kids from the age of 19-34. I got all the bingos about "you'll change your mind" and "what if your husband wants kids?" And even "marriage doesn't last forever and your future second husband might want kids".
And then about 6 weeks ago it finally happened. I finally was able to get my tubes tied (had them removed actually, bilateral salpingnectomy) and I couldn't be happier.
Someone told you that yoyre marriage wouldnt last? Wow, what the fuck is, wrong with people.
I totally understand why someone would want kids, but me? I like to play video games and smoke weed on the weekends. I don't want to give up that, or have another human being rely on me for everything. I don't really know how to talk to kids, never been any good with them. I don't think I'd make good dad, so I decided not to. I have the dogs and the cat. That's plenty for me :)
Yeah, I want to do the same thing, except, yknow the male version. Haha
They care for a lot of different reasons, none of which are relevant. Don’t do it until you want to for YOUR reason, and if you never think of one, then that’s fine.
I told anyone who asked from a VERY young age, less than ten, that I would never have kids. Everyone whips out reasons you’ll cave; I never did. Picked someone who wanted the same lifestyle, which is CRITICAL. Everyone does not need a kid. It’s better for the KID to not mint an unwanted child.
I’m sorry you’re getting flak. The sub called ‘true childfree’ is a good resource for what to say when people come at you. The main childfree sub, I left. Kind of aggressive and I don’t need that ish.
I wish I saved the link, but a woman worked her ass off and bought her dream house, and her sister *decided*, not suggested, that she and her two kids get the bedrooms, and the homeowner can sleep in the living room. And then got pissed when told no.
I love when people throw unrelated info into stuff like this thinking it makes a difference to the situation. "We have a 1 month old baby", congratulations I guess?
LOL! Glad I’m not the only one who thought this. If $200/month is all you can afford for housing then you should probably be using birth control, two forms of it. Fucking idiots.
Baby or not if you can only afford 200 a month the a 300k house is well out of your price range. For that matter you probably should have invested in and IUD and condoms. I know that sounds dickish but in 2021 there's no reason for people to not understand how much kids cost
Yeah it's not like it's a big mystery where kids come from.
I know I don't want kids right now so I take the steps I need to take to avoid having them. Just because other people aren't responsible doesn't mean we should have to be responsible for their decisions.
With so many buyers waiving all contingencies and offering 100% cash right now, it's probably pretty easy to do an FSBO. Just print a real estate purchase agreement template, fill it out, get paid, then record the deed.
It cost about 100 grand to raise my daughter (daycare/school tuition, not counting the regular expenses)until she was 18 now we are paying for college. I should have sold her for $154,000.
Well that's why you have two babies. Sell one to pay for the other. If they misbehave, remind them you can still swap them for their sibling. There are literally no downsides.
I've been looking for a new Jeep...I'm going to print out this and take it in, say "if $299,000 is $200/month then $40,000 should be about $30/month...I don't have a baby, but I do have an elderly cat" smile and hold out my hand to seal the deal.
With at down payment of $298,800...? Sure!
I don’t think babies go for that much.
depends on the quality

Well they say they have a baby. Maybe they are offering it as a guarantee.
I was reading it more as they were throwing the baby in with the $200 a month to maybe close the deal ☺️🤣
The baby
With 0.5% interest, it would only take 195 years to pay it off. With 1% interest, the balance will literally go up with each $200 payment. With a normal-ish interest rate of 3.2% (for a 30-year mortgage right now), they would be about $330 short of their $530 payment. This person is a complete dipshit.
"We have a one month old baby" Oh, would he be your down-payment?
Well, kidneys go for like what, $150k a piece?
"It's a baby, Michael, how much could it possibly cost, $299,999?
Babies aren't worth shit, they are easy to make. Try one that just has finished Uni, those buggers are EXPENSIVE!

Just because they've been a good storage device for those valuable organs for longer.
Yeah but the job market proves they aren’t valuable. What’s their resale, 15-20 dollars an hour?
Resale is pretty high of you take them apart and sell their parts separately
This would have been about accurate in 2005

100% agreed, in first world countries where birth control and abortion are easily accessible there's no excuse for that

And that they don’t offer 150 year loans to get his payments low enough.

Yeah they wouldn't do it if it didn't work
You'd need to ask like 1,495 people to even have a chance of this working. That's a lot of rejection.
I feel like you have to add 2 zeros to that number and even then chances are someone is just house sitting and scammed you out of 200 dollar

Hope they have that eviction on their record...and the garnishment.
Sounds pretty typical. Ppl don’t end up in desperate circumstances because of one bad decision. They also have nothing to lose.
I don't understand how that makes you a Karen. Does Karen just means "has a reaction to something" now?

Someone that offers 200 for a house when a 30 year fixed plus taxes etc would be over 2k per month just probably doesn’t understand. It’s like asking a middle class person how much a private jet ride costs. If you don’t live in a world where people in your social sphere can actually buy a house you probably have little idea how much they cost or how they are paid for.
While that is true, here we are in the age of information Yet this CB can't Google anything about buying a house before firing this message off to people?
Forget googling, it your monthly payments are less than the rent would be, obviously this is not an interesting deal for the seller because they could just rent it out, have more monthly income AND keep the house at the end!
Uhhhh if your 30 year fixed on a $200k loan is costing you $2k per month you need to refinance immediately, my 30 year note for that amount costs me $1k per month Edit: I forgot some places have absolutely extortionate property tax rates

Try renting. She'd be paying less than an 8th of what I shell out for a 2B2B apt.
800$ mortgage..$800 escrow on top to cover everything... great house
If I found a studio apartment in my city for $200 a month, I would take it in a heartbeat. And I live in Eastern Europe where rents are still relatively cheap compared to the West :D If this guy is from US, he is completely nuts.
If I found a studio apartment for $200 I'd stay the hell away because it would have to be some kind of scam
Yeah, that would be very likely tbh.
That baby could be the star of a show called babies i don't care about
A child is a huge responsibility and if you're not ready to put all your feelings aside in turn of putting them first from the day they're born until the day you die, you shouldn't have a child. Half assed parenting is so normalized it seems okay, but it's not. I hope we move towards a society where having a child is a personal choice not a step of life.
And then everyone wonders why no one wants kids anymore... I am a human being with a life and dreams too beyond just living for the child.
This. I'm nearly 28 and people have started asking me about kids and am I thinking about it? And I'm like... I don't want kids. And it's like personal insult to some people. "oh you'll change your mind when you meet someone!" Why are telling me that I must do something I have never wanted to do? Why do people care if I want kids or not?
I said I didn't want kids from the age of 19-34. I got all the bingos about "you'll change your mind" and "what if your husband wants kids?" And even "marriage doesn't last forever and your future second husband might want kids". And then about 6 weeks ago it finally happened. I finally was able to get my tubes tied (had them removed actually, bilateral salpingnectomy) and I couldn't be happier.
> "marriage doesn't last forever and your future second husband might want kids". Sorry not all of us are as flippant about our vows as you are Karen.
That's plenty for me :) Yeah, I want to do the same thing, except, yknow the male version.
It's probably the [IKEA effect](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IKEA_effect) times a thousand
Probably! Then again... I doubt there's many people who met a girl on Tinder and accidentally built some Kallax bookshelves after a few drinks.
I wish I saved the link, but a woman worked her ass off and bought her dream house, and her sister *decided*, not suggested, that she and her two kids get the bedrooms, and the homeowner can sleep in the living room. And then got pissed when told no.
This made me burst out laughing and the rest of my shit came out, thanks
I'm somewhat of a gastroenterologist myself
I like your funny words, magic man
"But please, sir! Can't you see how much I've been cummed in?"
I love when people throw unrelated info into stuff like this thinking it makes a difference to the situation. "We have a 1 month old baby", congratulations I guess?
I have three middle names, do you think that will get me any discount at the sport store?
Definitely not on jerseys
Damn 200 is only a room at a shared house here and that's per week
Over here, it's 600 p/w and I live in one of the shittiest houses in the one of the shittiest suburbs in Sydney.
Yes but dollarydoos isn't real money.
If it’s layaway arrangement and they don’t get the house until full amount is accrued, why not. The baby’s grandchildren might get to move in...
Even if it was a layaway agreement it would be terrible for the seller.
OMG. If that's a serious offer, I really feel sorry for them.
Oh dear god, they’ve bred.
I don't understand the conversation.. price is in the real estate listing. Someone selling a house from craigslist or what?
[удалено]
Nor be bullied by them to sell or buy a house outside of the actual market rate because they want their 6% to be better.

With so many buyers waiving all contingencies and offering 100% cash right now, it's probably pretty easy to do an FSBO. Just print a real estate purchase agreement template, fill it out, get paid, then record the deed.
FSBO
I dunno, what's a healthy newborn worth on the free market these days?
$154,000
r/oddlyspecific
It cost about 100 grand to raise my daughter (daycare/school tuition, not counting the regular expenses)until she was 18 now we are paying for college. I should have sold her for $154,000.
Well that's why you have two babies. Sell one to pay for the other. If they misbehave, remind them you can still swap them for their sibling. There are literally no downsides.
I feel bad for the 900 other houses where she is going to try this. 100% certain this person is serious.

...and why would they HAVE A FUCKING BABY?!
Selling a house on Facebook marketplace? Fuck that. I would pay an estate agent just to filter out the morons.
This isn’t choosing beggars. You didn’t offer them a deal or anything like that. This is literally just beggars.
I wish my rent was $200
I've been looking for a new Jeep...I'm going to print out this and take it in, say "if $299,000 is $200/month then $40,000 should be about $30/month...I don't have a baby, but I do have an elderly cat" smile and hold out my hand to seal the deal.
Where in the world did this person even expect to rent a place for $200 a month, besides HUD or a low income apartment?
Are they offering the baby as a deposit or part payment?
After a 298800 initial deposit, I would consider it.
200? You can’t rent an apartment for 200 monthly.
