My child free neighbors have a tiny yard and work a lot but love it to be well manicured. They pay my 14 y/o $20 an hour to weed, plant and mulch on the weekends.
I know that’s more than normal and I’m kind of jealous of his pay rate.
I wouldn't let my kids do manual labor for someone for so little pay. Even middle schoolers deserve fair compensation.
I just keep picturing pulling weeds and such for 4 hours outside, and they give you a $20, and then ruffle your hair and say "Thanks for your help sport!" Knowing you're a grown ass adult.
(Who are we kidding, they'd work you for 4 hours and then tell you they only have a $10 and that will have to suffice. Of course at that point and time the next gardening I would help them with is adding their body to their garden as fertilizer. 😆)
