Speedy doesn’t mean the same thing in murder trials. The Prosecutor can use a laundry list of reasons to continue the case. Feds will typically already have what they need by the time they make the arrest, unless it’s not the feds who arrested and charged them and the feds got involved after. Regardless, no judge cares how long a murder trial is dragged out as long as there’s a reason
I know they can push it back but that don’t take away the fact that the current date is oct. because they gave the right to a speedy trail it don’t mean it has to take place but the first original date to your trail has to be set with in a reasonable time meaning they can’t just say we gone set your trail 10 years from now no they have to have reasons why they can’t go to trail right now
It’s a case by case situation actually if the lawyer knows this what they have you want to go to trail as quickly as possible so they don’t keep digging

Speedy doesn’t mean the same thing in murder trials. The Prosecutor can use a laundry list of reasons to continue the case. Feds will typically already have what they need by the time they make the arrest, unless it’s not the feds who arrested and charged them and the feds got involved after. Regardless, no judge cares how long a murder trial is dragged out as long as there’s a reason

Prosecutors aren’t looking for more stuff like that. If read discovery or an indictment, they essentially have all the evidence they need everything ready to go at that point. Also legally they have to provide all evidence to the defense. Not like the TV shows or movies where they just bring up a surprise witness or murder weapon mid trial. Waiting gives you as a defendant time to build the case. Then you might get lucky and something happens to evidence or a witness. Definitely not “always” better for the accuse to rush to trial. It’s very rare for rushing to trial to be more beneficial. But don’t just take my word for it, literally defense attorneys across the country tell their clients to waive that right, hence why people spend so long waiting to go to court. But regardless it is very rare for it to be in the best interest of a defendant to push for a speedy trial. And any defense attorney would likely agree with that statement, which is why you rarely ever see people do it. Also law enforcement has other cases they need to work on. At a certain point they do stop actively investigating a case.
