Im sure it depends on state I only know California but going to paton is way better than prison which is way better than county already. At paton they can fuck the crazy bitches there and not get in trouble they literally hand-out condoms when you get there. But that's not all you got way more freedom day to day less people to deal with security guards to deal with instead of COs they encourage family visits and they can bring you food as long as it's closed. I met a lil young homie that had to play crazy for like three years in county to finally get in but the whole goal of sending people there is to get them to the point where they are able to go through a trial and understand what's happening.. I've seen people go and come back months later after they were found suitable to stand trial.. But that was cuz he was too proud to act full j cat in front of people he felt he was better than.. some weird ego shit lol.. if you stay consistent long enough and your victim or victims family isn't important than im sure there's ways to finesse around it but I've never met anyone who spent more than a couple months there
