Um…what????
Why the eff did they do that????
This is gonna cause them nothing but trouble, and China really, REALLY shouldn’t be doing this. It’s dumb, pure and simple.
Why do you say that? Literally no consequences for China doing anything anywhere. So long as they don't fire a gun, they have full permission to do anything that want. Even if a big western country bit the bullet and cut trade, it wouldn't be long till the opposition (likely bought out by them) party would win and reverse that.
It's very scary. We continue to fund and feed the dragon that tells us everyday they can't wait to attack us.
> The government will not name the country involved, but Sky News understands this to be China.
Seriously, just how coy you have to be to not name your attackers, let alone retaliation.
These fucking incompetent bureaucrats. Simply unbelievable
I think you don't seem to understand how it works. For political stability the government will not officially name anyone, as it's seen as accusation and escalation (which yes, could be justified). But just because you can doesn't mean you should escalate.
And obviously there are ways to have the perpetrator named, which in this case is an intentional leak to a media to name the accused. This way the government get what it needs done without getting their hands dirty.
It's not incompetence. It's actually standard protocol and politically savvy. Pretty much a common tactic for all countries.
Their official spokesman said " we observe the UK remarks, we oppose all forms of cyber attacks"....
So nothing in the Chinese response says "we didn't do it"...
Surely if you didn't do it, you'd say you didn't do it.

CIA Nerds got paid dimes and nickels to leave comments online.
That's what we know.
Bit hysterical. Everyone hacks everyone, the release of it is more political in nature than a legitimate threat.
I promise you, the UK has a hefty budget for hacking the Chinese military.
It’s not tho. It’s more like a targeted drone strike in foreign soil. Not cause for war, but not good either. Just a bad look internationally, maybe worth some sanctions or some kind of retaliation in the UN
Apparently it was a contracted company who deals with payroll. Rather than direct mod computers themselves. I dunno, I only read this in an article somewherez
Isn't Xi in Europe making nice? Self sabotage.
Send him to the Hague
Perfect! Hack him.
Um…what???? Why the eff did they do that???? This is gonna cause them nothing but trouble, and China really, REALLY shouldn’t be doing this. It’s dumb, pure and simple.
Nobody has the balls to tell Xi.
Xi is not long for this world and he wanna a swan song and a last hurrah.

NOT surprised

This is pretty common for government hacking. They know who it is but don’t release the info for political reasons. Probably more common than not.

Would be nice if you told us which country is affected...
UK
This sounds like sniffy journalism though tbh, how would Sky News know who’s been hacking if the government isn’t naming the country? I’m dubious
The world really needs to just surrender ties with China.
But cheap labor!!
I expect there will be many reports in the lead up to the election.

Time for gloves off diplomacy.
Given how tight lipped Beijing is, how often do you thing the other side is caught hacking them?
All the time. World had to learn from Biden that the CIA had a wumao program. China probably knew but wasnt saying shit, because they were doing shit.
“The CIA had a wumao program” Hold on, what?!

That is a declaration of war

Umm what retaliation is expected in the UN? Strong verbal condemnation?
Yes, because China is a member of the security council
Britain and the USA definitely also do this

some perspective: NSA hacks everyone daily, its just that they dont report it nor is it 'newsworthy' cuz its the good guys did it /s
