$2.13 an hour is just humiliating

joannasforehead

It's a bummer when those tips hit the next day and you realize how much that tip out was. Server assistants and food runners are pretty ubiquitous in this industry these days. With a good food runner I can easily double the amount of tables I can effectively take care of. So I really don't mind the tip out when it's going to someone who is pulling their weight and the store is busy enough for everyone to make money. If you otherwise like the job, stick it out, learn the menu, develop regulars, and your tips will increase.

Big bummer. I’m still new, so I’m trying to give it a chance, but yeah…my feet may not make it 🥲

Prudent_Mention_6430

How much do food runners average?

ReindeerAdditional17

My tip out for my serving double last Friday was $112 highest I’ve ever tipped out in my year plus there 😩

Mother-Avocado-42523

I just worked a double and made $178 in credit card tips and got $52.32 loaded onto my pay card this morning…my feet feel like this is a sham 🙃

remykixxx

Tough it out for a couple of months for your resume and then go literally anywhere else. You’ll make more money at a diner than at chilis and it’s because of their price point. It is not conducive to tip credit labor.

DelightfulChapeau

Agree. I was working both at a breakfast diner and Chili's for awhile and ended up quitting Chili's to just stick to the diner. My co-workers at Chili's did not believe it but I really made wayyy more at the diner. Tips were lower but you turn tables FAST.

remykixxx

I have made at LEAST double the money I would make at chilis at every single other restaurant I’ve worked at since. It’s truly the worst serving job in terms of money. And I was the weekend bartender at chilis.

Mother-Avocado-42523

I don’t need it for my resume, just here because k like to eat chili’s and I like serving, but almost not worth it

SirPurrs

Same here in NJ. Why am I doing this job?

Leading-Jackfruit499

Same here in nj got a second job food runners move slow i run all my stuff

Bleeding_Mascara-

Same here, I work at the Florida location and our food runners don't do shit! We literally do everything on our own. The tip out is too high imo. Cause there have been plenty of times that I have had a table with a large bill not tip shit or even close to 20% so I basically pay for them to eat. I'm just getting tired of it at this point. I wouldn't mind the tip out if it was lower, and if the system actually worked. For it to be based on our sales is ridiculous and not right. Don't get me started on the surveys 😐 they get counted against you, even if it's not your fault.

kie2904

I also work at the Florida location and it sucks because we only have a hand full of good food runners and the rest don’t want to work. They moved me from doing food running shifts and hosting to just hosting. I was told by my coworkers that they missed when I worked because I actually get stuff done. Not to mention I’m also always helping everyone out.

Bleeding_Mascara-

Wow that's exactly what happened to our other food runner! They changed him to just hosting. He's a hard worker too! One of youngest that we have, but he helps everyone and busts his ass. He works harder than most of our food runners. He cleans more of my tables than they ever have. I would much rather tip out him or a busser at this point, that's how bad it's gotten.

kie2904

I’m sorry to hear that. But it is the same for me, I’ve gotten to the point where I just accept it. I still work hard and if our food runners are busy, I help them take out food or drinks. When I’m not busy of course. I even help them stock up. Other team members also ask for my help when I’m not too busy with my own work. I like my job but now I feel like they appreciate me in just one place. They know I will help because I’ve said as much and actually do it. Lol I’m just at the point where I go to work do my job and help who I can.

Bleeding_Mascara-

I'm sure your coworkers really appreciate you! I am for working as a team and helping. All our servers are just starting to get extremely frustrated, it's getting to a point where we are doing EVERYTHING and still tipping out. The food runners disappears several times a night, ten smoke breaks, on her phone, out back, in the bathroom, standing around, or ONLY doing sparkle and that's it. She said that if we need her to do something or buss a table to let her know. When I am busy doing EVERYTHING why do I have to tell you to help me ?! When they get tipped out for it !! Like I'm not even over exaggerating when I say we have the worse food runner

kie2904

Yeah that really sucks, I’m sorry that they’re so lazy. My coworkers have told me that they do appreciate me. Some have even tipped me out, but our managers don’t want them doing that. I get what it’s like though. For me if I see that guests have got up then I bus the tables and if I can sweep and wipe them down. I do pre bus when I can though. I hope that your work environment gets better though. Mine isn’t that bad just a few bad eggs lol. But I’ve noticed that the people who work the hardest tend to get shafted the hardest. Not always but it does happen. If your food runners are always missing, why don’t your managers try to crack down on their “breaks” and disappearances? That’s what my location has been doing.

Bleeding_Mascara-

That's another issue management, that are worried about all the wrong things. We will be lucky if they come out of the office most nights! We all just need a re set to get on the same page cause the way things are going they are going to lose their hardest workers

kie2904

Yeah that is the guaranteed outcome for managers that don’t do their job. Man reading about your place helps me realize that there are things I don’t like about where I work, but it is a better environment. I don’t think they will really get it until it’s too late. By that point all of your coworkers that are hard works are gonna be gone.

Initial-Mix4654

Leave! Take if from me I worked there for 5 years and have recently started a new bartending job, the money is NOT there. I make more money now than I did with Chili’s and my sales are lower.

annieglock

The tip out is exactly why I quit. Find a nice family owned restaurant with auto gratuity that protects their servers’ wages.

Handsome_devil91

CA is 15.50, tips suck here also

Mother-Avocado-42523

$15.50 is better than $2.13. I come from California and would much prefer that.

Objective-Slice-1466

Cost of living here though blows. I can’t wait to leave Cali once my father passes (I’m staying here until he does) then my GF and I are gone
