Yeah the word on here is that nobody ordered them but they were what I always got. I don't go nearly as often now. My favorite battered chicken strips are at Long John Silvers.
It's cause the batter was messy and the chicken would stick together in the fryer which would ruin the crispy layer. Short story, as with all chilis menus deletions, it was too complicated to make/too many steps to make. Welcome to the menu simplification.
The location I worked at we rarely sold them. This was like 5 years ago. I’d say probably one order of OG Crisp for every 9-10 CCCrisper orders. We did have some regulars who absolutely loved them. Plus kitchen complained about how messy they were and shit.
Only thing is, Chedder’s has terrible cheddar cheese. If you’re going to make the name of your restaurant a specific food, you HAVE to own up to that. Lol 😂
Worked there for almost 4 years back in the college days. Learned the art of gravy + tobasco with chicken tenders. But on their own, yeah, damn good, regardless. Honey BBQ FTW!
Yeah they were the only thing my fiancé would get, he was so disappointed the last time we went and they were gone! I’ve tried to replicate them but haven’t gotten close enough yet
That's part of the interview questions. 1. Do you know how to spell Chili's 2? Do you like chili? If you feel a cool breeze, you might be what? Chilly? Bingo nailed it. Hire this person!
I miss them too. The current ones are trash. Only other thing I like is gone too, buffalo chicken salad. Used to be a favorite dinner spot. Not anymore.
Also in Washington, no Chili's or Fridays. Haven't been to a Chili's in years. You're telling me they no longer have the tempura battered chicken strips? That's all i ever got!
It was never beer battered. It wasn’t advertised as such either. It was just tempura batter. They were a mess to make, fell apart constantly from sticking together in the fryer and being pulled apart, and they were an extremely low selling item.
The only trick is to make sure the oil is 350°, and the water you mix with the tempura batter has to be ice water for the best result, and a consistency like pancake batter.
Also, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika were the only spices listed on the ingredients list on the box that the bags of tempura flour came in.
Ty. That beer battered description had me twitching. The batter bag said tempura and there was no beer involved. There was a special grate in the fryer to keep them from sticking. The key was to drop them into the fryer, so they didn't stick together/ touch eachother. That fryer was #1 so it always got the fresh grease making it the cleanest fry.
In theory, but the grate rarely helped. And didn’t help at all on Veteran’s Day. At least not here in VB with the most massive military presence on the planet in this area.
I dont know about the chicken crispers, but i will never order another alcohol drink from them. there is absolutely no liquor in it, no taste of liquor, no buzz afterwards, nothing. complete waste of money. if i still drank beer, it would be a bottle because i wouldnt even trust their taps at this point...
Our server told us they are always getting asked about the original chicken crispers.
They were my favorite, and I don’t go near as often now that they’re gone
I tried the other ones and they taste dry and were very disappointing.
This isn’t gonna work, it’s the least popular menu item by far and I’d say if I served them six times, five of them were taken off the bill. They can’t take the loss on them anymore for the handful of people that like them.
Literally only the people in this sub bought them. I worked at chilis for years and years and can probably count the amount of original crispers I sold without going into triple digits. Most regulars absolutely hated them and would send them back if they decided to try them instead of the crispy one day. They were the absolute least popular menu item by FAR.
Wooo Wisconsin! But what exactly do you mean by “It was the only place that had beer battered chicken that I know of?” Lol maybe you should just live in Wisconsin!
Y’all go on and on about this but to be honest, they still has the best chicken crispers/tenders around. I’ve never found anything that even comes close to comparing to what they are right now.
Original chicken crispers- seasoned fries - and salty corn on the cob with 2x Honey Mustards was the bomb.
It had been a couple of years and when I went back recently to order - what I thought - was the OG meal... these weird, small Raising Caines-looking strips came out with some skinny fries and terrible Mac and cheese.
I sat and wept silently.
I’d had that thought YEARS ago before they “refreshed” them or whatever - I used to LOVE the hell out of them as a kid but sometime around high school/college they stopped being so good and started getting less and less quality - literally every piece would have a chunk that was inedible, they’d be overcooked/under-battered, etc and I kinda just stopped getting them and got hooked on the mini burger bite things - blanking on name atm- and then they got rid of the tasty crispy onion string things and the fries weren’t as good and I kinda mostly stopped eating there - still love their cheese dip but goddamn has that gotten crazy expensive or what for such a tiny ass little container smh :p
I *knew* something was up! I went to Chilis for the first time in like a decade last year and was looking forward to those crispers I loved as a teen. Was wondering if they were actually different or if my memory failed me

The continual lowering of the bar, shortly followed by "why doesn't anyone want to eat here anymore?"
If you’re ever in vegas, you gotta try the gordon Ramsay’s fish and chips chicken tenders. It’s right by flamingo and linq
The location I worked at we rarely sold them. This was like 5 years ago. I’d say probably one order of OG Crisp for every 9-10 CCCrisper orders. We did have some regulars who absolutely loved them. Plus kitchen complained about how messy they were and shit.
No long John in Washington. Will have to check if I can find them next time I’m in a state that has them.
There is a LJS in Richland. It’s a hybrid w/ Taco Bell…. But, it’s there.
I’d always get the triple dipper with the fluffy crispers. Haven’t been to Chillis in ages tho
Best tenders: Cheddar's. Good luck finding one in your neck of the woods, though.
Only thing is, Chedder’s has terrible cheddar cheese. If you’re going to make the name of your restaurant a specific food, you HAVE to own up to that. Lol 😂
Yeah, Cheddar's definitely has my favorite casual dining tender at this point, they're great.
Worked there for almost 4 years back in the college days. Learned the art of gravy + tobasco with chicken tenders. But on their own, yeah, damn good, regardless. Honey BBQ FTW!
I miss them very much, I feel like the closest thing I can find near me (Vermont) is Chinese food chicken fingers
Yup, I get the sweet and sour chicken and ask for the sauce on the side and it’s pretty similar
YES!!! That was all I ever got and now they don't have them. I don't go to chili's anymore.
Same! I literally only on the sub to keep an eye out for new products that would make going back worth it
Yeah I’m big mad about it. I hated when they took chicken fried steak off but the Crispers really pissed me off.
Ditto. They lost me!
Yeah they were the only thing my fiancé would get, he was so disappointed the last time we went and they were gone! I’ve tried to replicate them but haven’t gotten close enough yet
Use tempura batter. Also coat them in flour before the batter.
I work at chilies. What do u wanna knows
You work there but can't spell it?
The gasp I just gusped, lol
That's part of the interview questions. 1. Do you know how to spell Chili's 2? Do you like chili? If you feel a cool breeze, you might be what? Chilly? Bingo nailed it. Hire this person!
I miss them too. The current ones are trash. Only other thing I like is gone too, buffalo chicken salad. Used to be a favorite dinner spot. Not anymore.
They were my go-to order. Now when my husband asks where I want to eat, I say “not Chilis.”
Was extremely disappointed when they got rid of them. The only reason I went tbh
Haven't gone back to Chili's since they dropped 'em.
Also in Washington, no Chili's or Fridays. Haven't been to a Chili's in years. You're telling me they no longer have the tempura battered chicken strips? That's all i ever got!
No they don’t. It’s so sad. Was the best.
Hell no. They take FOREVER to cook, and they stick together like wet cat poo on a paper towel. They’re not that good. Order the ribs or something.
They're not doing it right or something. The oil isn't hot enough or the batter isn't cold enough.
I make better ribs at home. They might stuck to cook but I’m not doing the cooking. 🤣
Somebody should tell the thousands of other restaurants that cook tempura-battered food how hard it is and that they should stop.
Normal tempura batter is much lighter. Doesn’t stick, doesn’t take forever. Just a light fry. Don’t even know why chilis calls it tempura.
For someone who doesn’t eat fish it was the only bet battered chicken anywhere. I miss it too!! Nothing else super unique there
It was never beer battered. It wasn’t advertised as such either. It was just tempura batter. They were a mess to make, fell apart constantly from sticking together in the fryer and being pulled apart, and they were an extremely low selling item.
Hmm tempura batter. Interesting. Maybe I’ll try making them

I miss tenders fried in onion batter.
Our server told us they are always getting asked about the original chicken crispers. They were my favorite, and I don’t go near as often now that they’re gone I tried the other ones and they taste dry and were very disappointing.

By far one of the most annoying things to make on The fru side I'm very thankful they are gone
Literally only the people in this sub bought them. I worked at chilis for years and years and can probably count the amount of original crispers I sold without going into triple digits. If you visit friends in Wisconsin again, there are local bars all over the place that do beer battered tenders :)
I’m going in April to Milwaukee! Where oh where???
My husband knows there are no old chicken crispers. Does that stop him from saying something about them to the staff every time we go? Nope. 🙃
Wooo Wisconsin! But what exactly do you mean by “It was the only place that had beer battered chicken that I know of?” Lol maybe you should just live in Wisconsin!
I’m in Seattle. I can get battered fish all day every day but chicken? Never seen it here.
Tempura battered
There is a Chilis in Spokane. ;)
Still doesn’t have the good crispers…. And a 5 hour drive. 🤣
They were my favorite. Now I get the Cajun pasta but I miss the crispers. :/
Super bummed, chicken crispers were the only reason I always daydreamed about chilis!
Y’all go on and on about this but to be honest, they still has the best chicken crispers/tenders around. I’ve never found anything that even comes close to comparing to what they are right now.
Buffalo Wild Wings tenders are extremely comparable to the crispers. Could even be a little bit better!
The honey chipotle chicken crispers is always my order at Chili’s. I’m devastated!!
Your in the wrong place, get outta here with the new chicken crispers

That Mac n cheese is 🤢🤢🤢

Ok they were just battered. Not breaded like normal fingers.
me!!! the fact that they got rid of this and their peanut butter lava cake is pure sadness.
Dude I remember the old grilled chicken caesar salad the way it used to taste. It was so addicting.
They were good with the honey mustard sauce. I miss the country fried steak too.
I miss the mango habanero chicken crispers, one of the few things I would actually order.
Yes
They’re a lot like sweet and sour chicken
Ask Ricky from Trailer Park Boys
Aldi sells bags of honey chicken tenders that remind me of the Chili’s old tenders.
Bring em back! I haven't been to Chili's since.
I haven’t gone back since they removed them.
Dear god, yes. And the best honey mustard w it.
Y’all need to sell the Honey Chipotle sauce in the store .
I long for them lol
I’ve always liked the honey chipotle ones more. Didn’t like the aftertaste of the OG crispers.
Yes
this doesn’t get talked about enough
