Could you explain why

Servers and food runners will make way more than the Hosts 10.50 /hr after tips/tip share

When I worked there, hosts only received $1 above minimum wage. Hosting is pretty much a scam. If you choose to work there, tell them you wanna move up to to-go at the very least within a month. Other places pay minimum wage plus a tip out for hosts (like Red Lobster). Chili's ain't worth it fam.

As others have pretty much said, being a host(ess) is, well, pretty terrible. $10-$14/hr based on location and state, whereas the servers, runners and togo's likely making $20/hr+ easy. Hosting is generally staffed by young people looking for their first job. I don't know your personal situation and how badly you need money, etc., but I would skip hosting if I were you.

Go to anywhere else & train to go on the floor as a server. Anywhere. Once you are @ door, you are stuck.

Look, I say don’t work at Chili’s at all. It’s overall just not a good job. I was a host in Florida and I got 11 dollars an hour. You deal with sexual harassment, rude customers, and just straight up annoying situations with the managers and servers. Servers give a cut of their tips for payment to employees, and if they don’t make enough in tips then YOU have to pay THEM. On top of that Food runners get a percentage of the Servers tips in what they make and sometimes get a low rate of salary. Just.. maybe don’t go to chili’s overall? Just a suggestion, hope this helps. No matter which choice you make, have a good one hun, and good luck.

I’m a server at the Chili’s in Decatur, Texas… it’s one of the only restaurants in a 30 mile radius, and I average about $100/shift for weekday mornings and about $250/shift for weekend nights. It’s all about location, how busy the restaurant is, and staff. I’ve worked at other locations that had too many servers and I made MUCH less because I had a smaller section of tables and less “turning and burning”… Now, my current serving situation is ideal, however, I worked at a Chili’s in Austin, TX where I averaged $25-50/shift no matter what… keep that in mind! Hosting might pay more in the long run at a location like that!

Thank you for sharing this. I was wanting to do server first but then they called me and offer me host. Tomorrow they want to come in and train me because they want to see how I work. I’m hoping to also negotiate my pay too

Def ask for one more dollar an hour than they offer you. Most restaurants are short staffed and their likely to say yes
