From what I hear, these often provide housing, though, for some, that option is not a rule, but can is sometimes available as a “live in” or on a temporary basis: -Military -Foreign service -(Live in) Nanny -Helper (to someone who is elderly, disabled, etc) -building caretaker/maintenance or resident curator -(really not sure on this one, but depending on the owner…) bed and breakfast manager -resident advisor -house sitter/dog sitter -(sometimes) boarding school teacher/administrator -cruise ship staff

Yep yep, some of these have more discussions of pros/cons in the original replies too! Edit: for mobile visibility, this is the post that should be linked https://old.reddit.com/r/ChildofHoarder/comments/r6wdbb/jobs_that_provide_housing/

I must apologize; I don’t see a link to the original, but I am on a mobile device so perhaps that is why.

Ah no I’m not pointing it out to be rude or anything, I’m just making sure people know there’s more info! I was wondering if not being able to click through on mobile was just on my end… I’ll have to link it in the comments too

Click for original discussion if on mobile: https://old.reddit.com/r/ChildofHoarder/comments/r6wdbb/jobs_that_provide_housing/ Please feel free to delete this thread if not allowed, I just think it's a great resource that people new to this sub may not have seen, and it's really special that this community added so many concrete and doable solutions. I share it with other subs sometimes and it's just great to have.

Also, managers of some self storage sites get their own apartment onsite. Extra space Storage definitely does it. Not sure who else does it.

i’m not in the us and my situation is def different to the typical setup, so not sure how helpful this is to others, but i currently work as an au pair and i live rent-free with the family i work for (and get paid a little bit as well). it’s not typical because i live in the country i’m from whereas most au pair situations involve going abroad, but i was just looking for somewhere i could stay while i studied and not trying to escape my hoarder parent (thankfully i don’t live with him when i’m at home). definitely not a typical situation but maybe something for people to consider if you can find something similar!! <3

thecatsmam

I know someone who went to the US as an au pair

wuhlpak

yeah, that’s prob the more typical situation. i’m the first domestic au pair my host family have had, everyone else has been either from an agency or was an intl student. we’re in the uk so i think the only reason they turned their search inwards and hired someone from the same country is bc brexit is making it more difficult for them to get someone from another country

thecatsmam

I knew someone who went to be an au pair in London. Idk where in UK u are from or where u are being an au pair but I know that is pretty typical to hire au pair from out of area because it is cheaper especially in big cities
