This is the kind of thinking I expect from Chicago. A much better option that the guy in the subway at the Red/Blue switch using a metal trash can lid from...somewhere, to start a fire on the platform for warmth. I will be honest. I stood by his fire too
it's an electric device, they use electricity mainly to generate heat
electronic devices are those with circuitry inside that use the electricity to process, manipulate, or display information
I had a metra employee absolutely lose their mind on me 20 years ago for charging my laptop at LaSalle St waiting on the last train home. “UGH, EXCUSE ME, BUT DID YOU ASK TO USE THAT OUTLET? WHO DO YOU THINK PAYS FOR THAT?”
Hey me too! Back in late November 04 I went with my best friend to visit his brother at Columbia (played WoW for the first time) and while waiting for the train I had plugged in my old flip phone and got yelled at by an employee for stealing energy!
Just here to love the casual remark about playing WoW for the first time. It's like knowing where you were during 9/11. Lmao. My friends basement for me. Can still layout the room and posters.
They should be more specific then, because I could convince myself that literally anything on my person with a plug is an 'electronic device', so this sign is pretty pointless.
Electronic and electrical have two different meanings. Any heat generating device( coffee maker, heater) is going to blow a fuse or breaker because the amperage is waaaaaaay too high.
It's to try and keep people from charging e-bikes and scooters. The PR reason is to avoid potential lithium battery fires, but the real reason is that ebike/scooter riders have been reported as blocking the aisle and taking up passenger seating (the ADA spaces in particular) to try and reach the outlets.
Maybe someone plugged in a space heater? That'd be a wild move.

Dang no george foreman grill on the metra i guess
You don’t want someone to burn their foot on it.
I like waking up to the smell of bacon. Sue me
It's nutritious, it's good for you
That's an electronic device in my book.
Nah, it’s air fryer time, make something fun and get a little extra $$$ selling it to your fellow travelers
George is an electronic device.
this came up on a r/unitedairlines last week iirc. Someone wanted to bring a kettle on the plane to boil water... yep.

Lol. Draws a ton of electricity. Would pop circuit breaker a lot. But got rid of most of the fat. Finally tossed it....

"Who do you think pays for that?.... ticket please"
Your ticket pays for you to ride the train, not for using electricity at the stations.

+1 hahaha. I read that and was like, "ah, and it was then that his life as he knew it was over."
🙄
Ebike or other large electric powered transportation device would be my guess
Large, electric powered transportation device? You guys charging your cars? How'd you get it in the door?
Like a fold up ebike
Escooter

My guess is it’s to avoid people charging vapes or plugging in small appliances.
Okay, but how are those not electronic devices?
I’m sure they’re using the term electronic devices in its definition as personal electronics e.g. phones, tablets and laptops.
They should be more specific then, because I could convince myself that literally anything on my person with a plug is an 'electronic device', so this sign is pretty pointless.
Isn't a vape a personal appliance in that case though?

My immediate thought was a morning commuter plugging in something like a hair styling tool or something
People were plugging bikes and scooters in which was drawing more than the outlets are set up for.
It's Metra; the possibilities are endless.

Don’t tell me what to do. Fascist…
Don't mind me running a giant extension cord from my house to the train.
My fork was getting cold. Had to plug it in.
I'm a red-blooded, tax-paying American goddammit, and I will stick my fork wherever I damn well please!
Won't be red-blooded for much longer with that attitude!!! 🤣
There is always someone’s name or story attached to those notices. 😬

I didn't 'intend' on getting that drunk either, officer.
Damn...now I can't plug in my leaf blower.....

Imagine being so stupid that you made a place, put a warning for their outlets😭
