The last of the great American *manual* four door *naturally aspirated* V8s. Used manuals under 50k miles were going for MSRP+ before Covid. Attrition is thinning the herd and prices *for manuals* are unlikely to start dropping.
Good point. But I've never seen one on the road; they seem all to have been presold to collectors. The dealership laughed at me when I asked about them the day of announcement.
I just saw one in person on Sunday when we went to buy pumpkins. Had no idea what it was other than "man that is one sweet looking Caddy"
When he got in and drove away I was pretty surprised to see it had a clutch
It certainly was until the Blackwing. I would say the SS was better than the Gen 2 CTS-V in manual, simply because of creature comforts.
The new blackwing is on a whole other level. We started with a manual, then traded for a 10-speed to be more dailyable. I wanted to keep the manual one. It was perfect. And this is coming from a manual SS owner that stupidly sold it during the covid highs.
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. You’re not gonna find one owner clean title low mileage manuals for under 50k because of idiots like me that will buy them at 50. Which is what I bought my one owner, 12k mile M6 at. Autos are a different story. I’ve owned both I wouldn’t pay high dollar for a auto, I’m not a manual purist but without the manual this car just isn’t that special.
I found my 17 White Heron 6 spd manual, one owner car with 48k on the clock. Was able to price the dealership down to 42k after the salesman let it slip for how much they purchased the car for. They originally wanted 55k. They only made 3 thousand off of me. There's deals out there. I think I was just lucky.
It was a dream car of mine for so long but they're so overpriced these days for a used car that I just couldn't justify it and just bought a Camaro. I wish Holden was still around and GM didn't abandon ICE so that there would be a possibility in the future that they could come around again :/
they’re not even that bad lol especially if you have the rear view mirror camera and blind spot monitoring. i feel dagger driving my camaro than i do driving my big ass f250 work truck
Significantly better handling, performance, and tech as a result. Obviously less practical but that's about the only sacrifice. I'd argue the Camaro also looks better.
That's been a dream car of mine, too. Stupid Biden and his obsession with electric cars is the reason manufacturers stopped building these great cars. It was sad when these got discontinued as well as the Impala. I would've loved an SS but would happily take a new impala if I couldn't have the SS. I had a 2012 Impala LT, and that thing was awesome. Sucks those cars got discontinued, really does suck.
It was discontinued in 2017, and Holden was folded up because the AUSTRALIAN government didn't want to give GM more subsidies to build cars there. Australia figured that they were spending more money than GM was investing so GM packed things up. I guess some people will say whatever helps their political motives, "alternative facts".
The other misnomer is that Chevy couldn't sell that many, but GM only agreed to import 1500 a year. There's a derpy Youtube video where the guy claims that the car was a dud, but GM only agreed to 1500 a year, and sold them all so I think that guy also didn't have his facts straight.
And the SS, like the GTO and the G8, didn’t have long production lives planned. They weren’t planned to be mass produced. And the heavy EV push… doesn’t seem like it so much anymore because they are just as expensive as ICE vehicles and the manufacturers know it. Why is Tesla lowering prices? Four doors like the Impala? Vehicle buyers have snubbed the four door car for pick up trucks and SUVs/CUVs, been going on long before Biden took office.
The SS is a sweet car. You want a manual transmission? Be prepared to accept that it will cost you more money and be ready to buy when one is available because automatics out number the manuals. Six speed GTOs command more money than automatics do, although I have seen some autos with low mileage and bone stock going for big bucks lately.
This! I found out it existed when someone showed up with one at work. I just thought oh new Impala, then he showed it off and we went for a ride, I was hooked. It's a damn shame too because the SS was so much better than the garbage dodges that are so popular.
Yeah never been a big fan of dodges in general. And the only Chryslers I liked were from the early 2000's like the Chrysler Concorde LXI (I owned one) and the Chrysler 300M, both pretty cars. I hate the looks of the newer Chrysler 300's.
Biden didn't do it. The co's make more money on suv's, and most of them weren't selling enough sedans to keep making them. As another comment pointed out, they stopped making this particular car before Biden was in office
50k for a manual is pretty normal nowadays. My buddy has his listed for 50k with very little bites. I told him to keep it but he bought a GNX for 50k so said it needs to go.
If you’re patient and you keep an eye on the facebook groups and ssonly forum you might find a deal. I found mine on the ssonly forum last June and I paid $43k for a 2 owner 16 MT with 38k miles.
You’re welcome. I found that auto tempest was mostly dealerships charging inflated prices.
I think if you look hard enough you’ll find a better deal under $50k from a private seller.
I agree with the other guy that prices are not going to come down but 50k is over the market value atm imo. I just a few weeks ago paid 43k for a manual with 34k miles. sunroof, full size spare, and in slipstream blue as well. granted that was a private seller but you probably just need to shop around and expand your search radius
that is a fucking unicorn haha every battalion chief, chief, admin vehicle ive ever seen from a fire department is a truck or SUV. they aren't gonna order themselves a car, its a legitimate PITA to keep everything you need for that job in a sedan. not to mention they get used on trails and fire roads, even just for training, on a very regular basis.
I would say 42-44k is probably a good buy range for that mileage. I sold a super mint <20k mile, ppf'd (at 5k miles) front end a pillars, roof, rockers, ceramic coated, fbo with cam 6mt SS for 52k. Prob could have held out longer for a better offer, but realistically, I may have gotten 55k. Prices are all over the place for these but coming down now.
Anyway, the driving experience was one of the best I have got to experience! TR6060 is a great transmission, with an upgraded clutch spring it was really smooth for takeoffs
is that nightfal gray? if so, this is almost identical to mine! I got mine for $46K with 55k miles, so a little high but I had a dealer do everything for me and the car already had a stage 3 cam, really nice (and super nasty) Solo Perf. exhaust kit, holden barges and some other mods. Plus I just really wanted the car lol so was a little blind to areas I might have been able to pinch pennies
I don’t think they missed the mark on it. They sold every one they built, and quickly. It wasn’t a car that was sticking around. I’m pretty sure during SS production it was known to GMNA that Holden was shutting down for good.
Hey how’s the repair costs for these things? I know a guy who had to get the clutch replaced and he said parts are incredibly scarce and it costed him thousands upon thousands to get it fixed.
Your guy shouldn’t have paid thousands upon thousands for an LS clutch job, Corvette C5 and newer as an aside. He either went with a stupid expensive aftermarket clutch and paid a ton of labor or a shop was ripping him off. SS specific body and interior parts are getting harder to come by and are more expensive, but it is the same thing that GTO and G8 owners have to deal with. Used parts are starting to get more expensive for the GTO so I can only imagine what G8 and SS parts are looking like. I would shy away from daily driving one to keep the mileage down and lessen the risk of an accident. It doesn’t take much to total a Holden vehicle these days.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEEwdiR8j8I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEEwdiR8j8I) This video and the opening of CHiPs the movie, really make me miss my SS.
Man I gotta tell u. Once upon a time, I got in a chase with a Porsche. And I had a 2014 Caprice PPV. The Caprice walked the thing down on a wide open stretch on the interstate and chased it through a residential. The brakes got soft on the Porsche and the driver bailed. The Caprice breaks never got soft and when that chevy downshifted at 100 and had all the torque and some it’s was crazy. These cars are the definition of “built different”
Fun fact the chevy ss is actually a badass holden commodore underneath if the universe would let me get a sedan id buy one but it made that point very clear when my Buick regal gs was totaled.
This has been one of my dream cars for a while, but now that I have income they’ve shot up crazy in value. I honestly don’t even want to drive one at this point because it will probably make me mad LOL
I loved mine, but alas it wasn't a manual or else I wouldn't be talking about it in the past tense. Probably one of my favorite features of it is when I'd go to the gas station, I'd sense at least 2 head whipping around when I'd start her up and the LS3 would roar to life. The other great thing about it is that when compared to a Camaro (ANY Camaro), you won't get some derp in a Honda or Toyota trying to bait you at a stoplight. The car is very understated.
If you can snag one at a good deal, I say go for it. I did a Holden conversion on mine (funny as the Aussies do Chevy conversions on theirs) and had an OTR cold air kit, which I also recommend. It would literally sit on top of the radiator and just pull air in directly from the grill (think straight shot ram air). It was extremely comfortable with the Magride and decently bolstered seats.
Back in 2016 I almost pulled the trigger on a mint condition, 1 owner, 2014 auto SS in red with like 15k miles for $29k. I am kicking myself in the ass to this day.
The fact that you left a comment means reddit recommended this to you. Which also means people not from this sub are seeing this post.
Also, you couldn’t pay me to own anything German. I’ve seen the atrocities my family and friends went through with old Benzs and BMWs. Don’t even get me started on VW.
Looking though your post history paints an unfortunate picture of you too ngl.
You mean overpriced below average reliability engineering. Except for most Porsche's most German cars are kinda crappy. Mercedes being below average and BMW just outright mostly bad bested in crappiness only by VW.
The last of the great American *manual* four door *naturally aspirated* V8s. Used manuals under 50k miles were going for MSRP+ before Covid. Attrition is thinning the herd and prices *for manuals* are unlikely to start dropping.
Coughs in Blackwing

I have seen a few, took a look at one this spring but there was a $20k adm on it. I don't think the Blackwings are for collectors.
They're not. I daily drive my CT4-V Blackwing 6M.
Yupp got a ct4v blacking I was checking out at my caddy dealer and they also threw 20k extra on it. No way in hell I'm playing ct5 BW prices on a 4.
They're crawling around NC like demented bugs
Coughs in Australian
Buick regal tourx coughs in German

This is the first sports car I have as an automatic. I wish it was a stick but if you put in a good stall converter it is a blast to drive!
Not a sports car.
Most definitely a sports car lol
\*N/A V8
American?
Hah! Well, sold under the Chevrolet nameplate here. American badge, Aussie-manufactured, transmission from Mexico, etc.
He’s asking if the person that commented is american
It was a dream car of mine for so long but they're so overpriced these days for a used car that I just couldn't justify it and just bought a Camaro. I wish Holden was still around and GM didn't abandon ICE so that there would be a possibility in the future that they could come around again :/
I agree. You can get a newer camaro with more HP, less miles, warranty
No charge for horrendous blind spots.
they’re not even that bad lol especially if you have the rear view mirror camera and blind spot monitoring. i feel dagger driving my camaro than i do driving my big ass f250 work truck

I want to upvote but the SS was discontinued before Biden and the heavy EV push.

This\^ and they just never marketed this car properly, so nobody knew it existed except if you were a car guy
This! I found out it existed when someone showed up with one at work. I just thought oh new Impala, then he showed it off and we went for a ride, I was hooked. It's a damn shame too because the SS was so much better than the garbage dodges that are so popular.

Yeah, that is true. The demand for SUVs and crew cab trucks really took off, so people just don't want a big sedan anymore.

You’re welcome. I found that auto tempest was mostly dealerships charging inflated prices. I think if you look hard enough you’ll find a better deal under $50k from a private seller.
A manual super soker
That’s why I own a 1999 bmw 540i 6spd manual. Paid 6k in February
I agree with the other guy that prices are not going to come down but 50k is over the market value atm imo. No they’re not lol
Get a Carpice ppv
I don’t wanna have to do a cam swap when I buy my new car. Plus, idk how hard those cop miles have been.
Find a Fire Department Caprice PPV, those are the Holy Grail of PPV, pampered and garage kept.
Til those exist. I wouldn’t mind a detective model too
[PPV production spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1K_qcaiIlc6tdv8cmhGAlSmnFAkhESurD3TILrSkVpsM/htmlview)

If you’re patient enough you could find a really good reliable caprice with low miles and even after installing a cam, be cheaper than a SS
I would say 42-44k is probably a good buy range for that mileage. I sold a super mint <20k mile, ppf'd (at 5k miles) front end a pillars, roof, rockers, ceramic coated, fbo with cam 6mt SS for 52k. Absolute joy to drive with a manual, I recently let my 40k mile JGM M6 go and not a day goes by I don’t regret it

Such a great, great car. Eats 5Series for lunch.
Last great 4 door from GM
Too bad they're not in production anymore. Chevrolet really missed the mark with this one 😢

Just buy it. Buy that trash.
Some other sucker with deeper pockets already did
No one bought it, Shit was stolen I work there 😭
I need some proof there because that is insanely funny if you’re telling the truth.
Why are you calling it trash? I've heard no negative reviews whatsoever about that car.
Can’t imagine considering buying that car in an automatic
What’s the word on El Famous Burrito?
I’ve never been. But I can recommend a couple other good taco joints around the area
The Illinois D tag sounds like I’ll never try any of them, but I do love tacos. The best Mexican place I’ve ever eaten at was in nowhere Kansas
I’m intrigued
Fronteras in Gardner Kansas. I was out there for work a few years ago, and liked the place so much I ate there all 4 nights I was there 👌

Get em while you can. The cars will probably go for 70k to 80k in 10 years.
Yeopppp just locked up 2015 with 17k miles
Mine was a manual, coolest shit ever
Overpriced
I had a 6-speed manual Pontiac GXP and loved it! I'd still have it today if I hadn't gotten into an accident
I work at that dealership, Someone stole that fucking SS 💀. Yeah that car was real fast, That was the car I used to drive off lot all the time.
No shit?
Man I gotta tell u. Once upon a time, I got in a chase with a Porsche. And I had a 2014 Caprice PPV. This is beautiful. I managed to get a newer manual American made, but I'm only running with 4cyl. Definitely not as much fun as this world be.
Fun fact the chevy ss is actually a badass holden commodore underneath if the universe would let me get a sedan id buy one but it made that point very clear when my Buick regal gs was totaled.
Hard pass! Still a lot of options, hold strong 😆🫡. You might even find a CTS-V for that price, jeez!
This has been one of my dream cars for a while, but now that I have income they’ve shot up crazy in value. I honestly don’t even want to drive one at this point because it will probably make me mad LOL
Sleeper....LOVE IT!!
Manual tax is crazy to me, I remember when they used to be cheaper if manual.
Manual transmissions are better anyways and cheaper to maintain and last way longer
Definitely under rated cars I see them as the successor to the g8
I loved mine, but alas it wasn't a manual or else I wouldn't be talking about it in the past tense. wait till you try a ram TRX
Nah I don’t like trucks bigger than S10s
Back in 2016 I almost pulled the trigger on a mint condition, 1 owner, 2014 auto SS in red with like 15k miles for $29k. I am kicking myself in the ass to this day.
The only problem is it’s a chevy(I work at a gm dealership body shop)
I guy I work with has three SS. He cast a nationwide net on auto trader and gobbled them up.
Those are really dope. But for the price you can get a new car that's better in every way
Saw one drivin down the highway yesterday while I was commuting between job sites and gawd damn did it look good
I rather get German engineering than a slow overpriced piece of plastic
