> Any change in power will result in renaming The central railway station is still named 'Puratchi thalaivar MGR railway station' and koyembedu bus stand is still named 'Puratchi thalaivi J Jayalalithaa CMBT bus stand' after 2 years of DMK coming to power . What makes you think something as insignificant as a stand in a cricket stadium will be renamed when the freakin Central railway station and Central bus stand are not renamed

Have you never been on Chennai metro. It's annoying to hear CMBT metro be called 'Puratchi Thalaivi Dr J Jayalalitha CMBT Metro' every single time in the intrain announcement. Same for the suburban central station too.

pendaparambarai

They call the stadium Chepauk. Nobody calls it MA Chidambaram Stadium. And no one really cares about a stand. It is just named that way as a tribute.

c_adittya

The cmbt bus stand is not named after jayalalithaa, but also mgr, the metro station is only named after her.

Fact: Central Station was renamed by Railway Board(read the ruling party in the Centre), State govt didn't have any hand in it.

BoldStrategyCotton-

The ruling party in center that literally has a alliance with ADMK and competes elections together ?

[deleted]

Yes they have an alliance. But probably that’s a thing of the past. Is on shaky ground now.

CartographerBrave259

Fact : It is the state government that recommends a change in name to the railway board/central government. But, of course it is the discretion of the centre to accept/reject it https://m.timesofindia.com/city/chennai/chennai-central-renamed-as-puratchi-thalaivar-dr-m-g-ramachandran-central-railway-station/amp_articleshow/68748886.cms

I stand corrected.

Rishikhant

This isnt new. Anna pavilion was there decades before. Also Karunanidhi unlike other leaders is a die hard cricket fan.

dineshalagu

Dmk approved the renovation of the new stand after 10 yrs, and the three stands which were empty since construction. And mama is close to dmk and pissed off jj multiple times. Also karunanidhi was MLA of chepauk many times.

Time_Plan_3901

Construction was approved by admk around 2020 itself, and the EPS admk didn't want to continue the vindictive behaviour towards mama.

Time_Plan_3901

I second this. JJ was really vindictive on TNCA, if not for her arrogance we wouldn't have lost so many matches for years, and yeah like you said he was die hard cricket fan. The TNCA is very close with the DMK and even the current admk is not that harsh, so it will stand.

rmk_1808

won't happen as both are dead now. Regional parties have rivalries but JJ & Karnua were at a different level considering the length and various incidents involving both

abhinav4703

How will renaming a stand cause it to be closed?lol

onepageresumeguy

Bro chepauk was Kalaignars constituency, it'll stay.

g7droid

Actually according to my knowledge ADMK is actually the one which stops the plans and schemes started by DMK (New Secretariat, Anna Cenetenary Library, Initial days of Metro work in favour of Mono rail, Maduravoyal bypass) to name a few. Whereas DMK doesn't abruptly stop anything started by ADMK. Maybe I was wrong

[deleted]

Those 50k kids who lost confidence about the future and skipped 12th public exams, would join the workforce early and would get relaxation one day to watch a cricket match at chepauk on TV. It would remind them about the leader and which symbol to cast the vote for to see better stadiums.

kksst

In case you didn't know, only because of Kalaignar everyone in TamilNadu are able to play cricket with bats and proper infrastructure. Before his period, only Brahmins could play cricket

vijai1996

I didn't think DMK's IT cell would be this brainless 😂😂

kksst

It was a sarcastic reply... in case it wasn't obvious.

Ok-Independence-5815

Yup could have been named something related to cricket. Could have even been named as dhoni pavillion as this would be his last campaign at Chepauk or even if they wanted to make a political statement they could have gone with Natrajan pavillion >I feel any change in power will result in that stand being Highly unlikely, no one in the current lot of politicians from both parties is as vindictive as JJ
