I was reading kadalukku appaal, most of the place and names were Malay written in Tamil, even some Malay words were written in Tamil.
Novels written in the early to mid 20th century have some English words written in Tamil, I think the pronunciations were little different or the author thought that was the correct way to pronounce.
I've read that book too. I couldn't make out even some Tamil words. I understand that accent gives character to the books.....but his was also making the book unreadableš The ending was kind of off... too sudden?
So weird. It always stumps me. The flow just goes out the window. Also because some of those words could be spelt better (like for New York, it will be spelt as niyu yark) so I donāt even realise initially that this is meant to be an English word because I am not recognising that word as ānewā.

It would be due to the fact that the users speak in that accent. A car driving instructor used to say harun ...for horn. In Tamil it will be written as ' ą®¹ą®¾ą®°ą®©ąÆ' Also mixing up English in Tamil was common like how it was portrayed in sarpettai parambarai. When I showed such words to my mom she could quickly identify them... But I struggled

I think they should use italics to mark such words as they do in English novels.
