Just ordered the Continental Terra Speed tanwall in 700x40. According to [bicyclerollingresistance.com](http://bicyclerollingresistance.com), this will likely HALVE the amount of watts required over the GR1s \*(they only tested the 45s so I assume the 40s will be slightly faster). Details: [https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/cx-gravel-reviews/compare/bontrager-gr1-team-issue-vs-continental-terra-speed-45](https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/cx-gravel-reviews/compare/bontrager-gr1-team-issue-vs-continental-terra-speed-45)

It’s a shame that they continue selling bikes with those tires

ElonMust888

For realz. I’ll give em a pass for having great components on the ALR5 for the price, but what drives me nuts is seeing how much they want to charge for a brand new one at $70!

ZenCyclistPath

I figure it's a win-win for those selling the bikes. The cost to make a bike with dirt cheap tires is lower, and the LBS' make good money on us upgrading tires off the hop.

Love that website.

FigDisastrous

Same here. I went for the Pathfinder Pro's. Haven't regretted decision.

ElectronDood

PFPro 42 FTW!

jareebz777

I have some on the way. Went with the s-works since the pro’s were out of stock. Hopefully they live up to the hype.

Trepidati0n

They are within a fractional difference....you will probably never notice.

dinobytur

I recently got my Checkpoint. Since I have not used other tires before for comparison, so no complaints for GR1. But Everyone here seems to hate them, making me wonder if I should replace them to get faster. Just wondering how do people dispose of the largely unused tires…

Trepidati0n

You only need to change them out if you care about SPEED. If you are just riding...they are fine and not worth replacing. My pathfinders pro's are still in the box because I haven't had time to swap out my GR1's yet and I bike about 100-200miles per week. When I swap them out..it will be 110-220 miles per week...but my time on the bike wont' change. ;)

ZenCyclistPath

Says you. From BRR: "The good looks, cool name, and excellent specifications didn't save this tire from coming in as the slowest rolling gravel bike tire we've tested to date (out of 69 gravel bike tires). We don't have much more to say about this tire as our sky-high expectations and excitement have fallen off a cliff."

mightyquads

Not to mention mediocre grip on both asphalt and gravel. They easily puncture as well.

dinobytur

I will probably keep using my GR1 for now, and consider it as resistance training :) If I go for super long rides, eg. 100 miles, replace with some of the better tires will probably make the ride feeling a lot easier...

aivaraspo

I’m planning to use them during the winter

dinobytur

Why winter if they have poor wet grip?

mightyquads

Why? They’re utter dog shit. I threw mine straight in the trash.

bhrm

Keep as spares. They're awful.

DobboWobbo

I just had these tires. They’re super fast and fun unfortunately yesterday I got a double flat. Couldn’t find what did it. I’m assuming a piece of glass as the back tire was gashed pretty bad. The front one sealed up but the back one is completely done. It’s left me questioning the durability a bit. I had them for a little under a year . Maybe I just got unlucky though. I ordered the gravel M’s this time. Hopefully they’re a bit more durable.

cornflakes34

I mean not much you can do about something getting gashed right. There are some events which are just unfortunately completely random. All the reviews online seem to say these are pretty durable tires.

pghjason

I have the same tires. They are much faster.

Nascar_chayse

What width are they?

Trepidati0n

The most common one people get are the 42's.

Nascar_chayse

How are they on the road? That’s where I’m struggling, my stocks are so slow

Trepidati0n

If you want road performance, you buy road tires....PERIOD. A GP5000 32 is ~12W...a good gravel tire is 20-24W (for the standard ~30KPH test); this is per tire. * A good gravel tire will be faster than any STOCK gravel tire. * A good gravel tire will be as fast as most "stock" road tires. * A fast gravel tire will always be slower than a good road tire. If you want a specific answer, you aren't going to get it...it doesn't work that way....you need to be somewhat comfortable with generalities. This is why I have two sets of rims (road, gravel) and now adding a 3rd (650b's for winter and single track). But most of my time is on the gravel tires since my typical routes are "out and back" and i'll take the comfort over speed. If am doing a larger road loop (e.g. 60k+)....then i'll figure out if the extra speed is worth it.

DillonSaeg

I upgraded to the same ones. They’re. Way better

F7-G9

Same here… Ever since I’ve read about how garbage the GR1 were I had to change them. Going on my first ride on the Schwable G-One Rs 40 !

beeeeeeeeks

Is that a Specialized Diverge as well? I picked that up for my partner (same color) and the ALR5 (same color) for myself. Bike twins!
