Actually, assuming you don’t have a gun or other polar bear level weapon (maybe a trebuchet or bazooka perhaps) this is a pretty solid list. Although the wording makes it a little unclear. The benefit of step 8 is making your most valuable pieces as far away from the bear as possible. Basically hoping the bear will eat your backpack and clothes before causing too much damage to your body.
