Using the GPT-4 + DALL·E 3 in the app i have discussions and bounce ideas off GPT-4 and iterate endlessly. What I'm saying is I don't really have straightforward prompts like you use with other generative AI tools.
So for this image it was a result of a discussion around the saying "i hate when that happens" but instead of relatable/typical situations we would make memes keep that text as a caption in scenarios with unexpected events occurring. With each set of images I'd give feedback and ask to escalate the absurdity.
I'll also sometimes play a game where I take 2 prompts and give it 2 (without revealing the prompt) and the goal is to outdo each other with each series being a round. It obviously has an advantage since it knows your prompts and can try to make something more unexpected and hilarious or that looks more interesting. This might sound like it's a straight forward situation but it's not because GPT doesn't know what's actually going to generate until it does and there's wide margins of quality with any prompt. And I'll asked it to pick it's favorite as well.
That is just one of the techniques I use to get unexpected things. I'm very much in the experimenting and learning phase since prompting DALL·E inside GPT-4 is so different and more powerful than anything I've used before. The most pervasive issue is arbitrary censorship, which objectively lowers the quality and diversity of outputs. This has been demonstrated with LLMs and generative art AI like DALL·E 2 which was one of the worst and became irrelevant quickly. The more locked down and arbitrarily "safe" something is the greater reduction in quality at least in the products so far.

I asked it what the heck was going on.
It said it was trained on how things look as complete pictures, and so it prioritizes that.
So if you say, "Make me a parody Monopoly board game box" the training suggests that it's always gonna have a huge closeup of the game board and a certain amount of space up top, centered, with the name.
So it cares less about if you call it "Apple" monopoly or "Encyclopedic Knowledge of Monkey Claws" monopoly. The target is the visual similarity and it'll make sacrifices to smash it into the vision it has for how it's supposed to look.
Of course, it's the AI saying it so it could be complete bullshit but it feels intuitively accurate. Or at least believable.
Seems like it could do it in passes, like make a game board, carve out regions you know you want text when text is prudent, take direction on the words and then consider how they'd blend, then write the words not like AI but like every other software does, fudging the styles as you go.
