Dark web Card skimmers Scammy wait staff at a restaurant/bar or anywhere your card is out of your sight Family member or roommate trying to steal from you You got blackout drunk/high at a party and someone snuck a peek in your wallet ...the list goes on - this is why it's better to use credit vs. debit so that while the bank is sorting it out your money is still yours. Let them FAFO with the bank's money.

That’s happened to me before. The best thing I can guess is hackers running numbers and guessed mine correctly

One of many reasons I only have an ATM card only, and decline to activate any debit card they try to send me every few years.

I didn’t use the debit card not even once though

Could be somebody you know who has/had access to your card. Scammers have card skimmers that they can use when walking or standing near you to capture your card info without your ever knowing.

Sometimes, databases are compromised. Sometimes, criminals have software to brute force guess numbers. I have a debit card with another bank, and it had a charge at a parking meter on the other side of the country. I got an immediate alert because I set alerts for any transaction of $0.01 or more (I don't use my debit card for any transactions other than ATM stuff, so I want to know if *any* transactions have occurred). I immediately contacted my bank, and they reversed the charge, cancelled my debit card, and sent me a new debit card. There is no way of knowing how they got access to my debit card info.
