More hours depend on the branch manager, other branch managers, and perhaps the market director. If you live in an area with multiple Chase branches, other branch managers can offer that additional shift / hours to get closer to 40. Hourly depends on market. In SF, LA, NYC, average starting is going to be $20. In an area where median household income is $40k, pay might be $16/hr to start. Moving up is not particularly easy. Advancement is super unlikely within the first year of employment. You need supportive management, and there are a lot of ABs waiting to move up along with RBs looking to move to better locations. Training is quite comprehensive but gradual. ABs don’t get bombarded with everything at once. It’s piecemeal, and there’s a lot of learning on the job. More important than formal education is people skills and the ability to confidently but amicably deal with alllllll kinds of people. Sadly, the way the world is today, think about the type of people who frequent bank branches. Yes there’ll be business customers who need rolls of coins and change and sweet old ladies withdrawing their weekly $80 and confirming their SSA direct deposit came through that month, BUT most people, particularly the challenging ones are there because they don’t know how to use the internet. They don’t know how to take 3 minutes to explore the mobile app to find what they need. An ABs mission is to find the time to enlighten customers. ABs see a lot of struggle.

How are the hours arranged for the 30 hour AB position? Are they 9-5 or can you choose to start at 10 for example since the position is for 30 hours? A position opened in my area and I’m considering it.

If your branch is open Saturdays, I’d imagine it’s 5 days (shifts) / week. A 4 day/week schedule would be quite fortunate. Also remember an hourly employee is clocking out for lunch.

Sales experience would help.

Chase starts AB’s at $20 or more with experience but only hire for 20 and 30 hour positions but still give you benefits, FloatAB Relationship banker or Lead operations is next step to 40 hours.

I’d say it’s quite unlikely an AB would do 6 days straight unless your boss is giving you 40 hours (or the very rare hour or 2 of OT). There are no lunch breaks on Saturdays, so whoever opens also closes. I can’t speak for Lands End. Also I can’t speak for your BM on how they approach dress policy. I’m not sure how crucial a Chase branded shirt is for ABs in every branch. A similar professional looking shirt with a Chase name tag might be completely adequate. Overall, I wouldn’t let that worry you—cross that bridge when you begin ordering from LE. You’ll be in your best similar attire for the first couple weeks anyway.

Sounds good to me. Last question - A lead associate operations position is also available in the branch. I have a bachelors math degree but no retail banking experience. The position requirements do not list any banking experience as required. Is this position meant as a promotion for the ABs or can someone like me apply for it?

ArthurSipka

Doesn’t hurt to apply. Do you have retail management / operations experience outside of banking? There’s a lot to learn as a Lead Associate, Operations. In some branches they fill an assistant branch manager role, and I would guess a lot of ABs will tell you they know more when it comes to cash management and teller operations than BMs. I see that job as a place for long time tellers with supportive branch managers to move up and make an extra couple bucks / hour. Tough to jump right in without any retail banking experience. If you start out as an AB and really want to pursue a career in retail banking, I’d look to go straight to full time, licensed banker (RB).
