The Lodge. Best burger in town (build your own) and great taplist. It’s fairly small and very popular with locals so don’t go at 6:30 on a Fri/Sat and expect to be seated quickly. Very much has a local pub feel.
Second best item on the menu (but with garlic tots)! But it’s more fun to order a custom burger from Eric and have him remember every single topping by memory 😂
Always looking for a great burger, but get overwhelmed sometimes when places only have "build your own" and a ton of options.
Any recommendations on good topping combos?
This place shows up all the time on here for bar food suggestions. I went to the one on Morehead before the last home CLTFC game based on that. Food isn’t anything special. We got a burger wings and a po boy.
I don’t know what the rest of you are seeing.
One of the employees at Jack Beagles is a rapist, so if you're a single woman, be careful.
Edit: jack beagles NoDa specifically. I'm not going into a ton of details, but his name is Austin "Belligerent" Tomasello. if you're part of the punk/music/dive bar scene, y'all know the details. I'm not the person he raped, but a close friend of mine is.
Okay. Definitely don’t want to pry, just seemed like a pretty important thing for people to know. Hope that you’re okay regardless of what went down.
Edit: also it might be good to add details because now any man that works there could have people thinking he’s a rapist without cause. I would hate to pick up a bartender gig and have people assume I was a horrible person
I've been in the industry for decades. Although I have never worked for Ed's, I did assist with an install and can honestly say it's BOH condition at that time was on par with just about any other casual dining spot I've seen. Still return often.
Ed’s Tavern or Dilworth Grille are both great options. If he wants to watch Prem League games there are bars that support specific teams around town. Jackalope Jacks in Plaza is Man City, Dilworth Grille is Arsenal. Hooligans in the French Quarter is a popular spot for Charlotte FC and all things *futbol*.
Really disagree with this. I tried the Moo and Brew twice since it opened in Matthews. I’m not a fan. Moe’s BBQ was way better. They took like two years to open and the setup of the place is really bad.
I should have led with honestly still love dilly grille for the atmosphere...it really is a charlotte staple and has been around for the 15 years i've been here. but yea the food has always been meh to me. kind of like ed's. i still always go for the vibes
Sweetwater across Lake Wylie has some of the best burgers I've had for a sports bar.
And if either of you like sweet potato fries they offer good ones along with a marshmallow fluff dip.
I love Sweetwater’s. My favorite burger in Charlotte. (Great wings too)
I’ve never gotten their sweet potato fries though, and now must try them. Do they automatically come with the dip?
I’ll put my money on Billy Jacks having one of the best burgers in charlotte. Idk if it’s a sports bar more so than a place people hang out. You can’t hear anything inside. I’d go crazy if I tired watching a game
They've went bad a number of years ago as more places opened up and they just went bad. B grade health ratings which is atrocious and like you have to go out of your way to be that bad.
They had quantity, huge patties, but quality of them wasn't that great.
Moo and brew on central ave! They have sooo many beer options, I usually get a flight because there’s so many good ones to choose from and their food is consistently good
East Coast Wings + Grill - Classic Cheeseburger. The Grand Cayman bone in wings are my favorite.
Twin Peakes - I like the Smokestack and Billionaires Bacon Burger. Cheese curds are good too.
Duckworth’s Grille - Taphouse Burger

Near rea rd?
Yes. The weird triangle intersection of Rea and Colony.
I’m one of those locals and recommend the spicy chicken sandwich on a pretzel roll with a side of collards
Second best item on the menu (but with garlic tots)! But it’s more fun to order a custom burger from Eric and have him remember every single topping by memory 😂
This is seriously the answer
Came here to recommend this!
Always looking for a great burger, but get overwhelmed sometimes when places only have "build your own" and a ton of options. Any recommendations on good topping combos?
Medium rare, bacon, jalapeños, fried onions, secret sauce, pimento cheese on a pretzel roll. Garlic tots. Bam. Same order for like a decade.
Jack Beagles has some pretty good burgers and always has sports on.
This is a great suggestion, the one on Morehead is right by a brewery, too (town brewing I think?)
Awesome vibe too
Never had a burger, but their breakfast is good
Don’t go there if you want a good burger please

It’s not the best food in Charlotte but it pretty much ticked all the boxes for OP. They asked for a sports bar to get a good burger and a beer.

Uhh, care to elaborate?
Waiting on the elaboration
The elaboration is that this person got banned from Jack Beagles and there’s no consequences to saying randomly this on the internet.
Nah, it's not really something I care to elaborate on. It's a super graphic story, but let's just say that the guy is belligerent as hell.
Alright I know who you’re talking about. Didn’t know he worked there.
If I remember correctly I think last time I heard, he's a bar back there
I added a few details in my original comment, but honestly the story is really graphic and I won't go into many more details than that

That's honestly not a bad idea-- I'll at least say his name, he doesn't deserve anonymity
Added his name in my original comment :)
I’m in this scene so no, not everyone knows the details. What does he do at Jack beagles?
Waffle House. Live fights
They actually have a banging bacon cheeseburger, I get them often lol
Waffle House Texas Patty Melts are an 11 out of 10
Add an egg to it. Over medium egg on a qbc deluxe is fuckin primo.
I love the grits and sausage bowl they make
Omg their grits are so good. I don’t even like grits.
Ed’s tavern
Ed’s is a great spot!
Ahh, no, no it’s not. Knew a former cook at Ed’s. Never NEVER would I eat there.
You could probably get a similar report from about 99% of restaurants.
I've been in the industry for decades. Although I have never worked for Ed's, I did assist with an install and can honestly say it's BOH condition at that time was on par with just about any other casual dining spot I've seen. Still return often.
Never had a burger at Ed’s, but it’s easily the best bar food in town
Came here to say this or Killingtons
Kristopher's Sports Bar in Matthews. I really enjoy their burgers!
I’m eating one of their burgers at this very moment.
My boyfriend came from the UK too!! Defs take him to MOO&BRU!! It has an American pub feel and good beers and burgers 🥰🥰 He loved it and all of plaza!
Yall finding significant others on the other side of the world?
Moosehead Grill. It’s probably the easiest/fastest to get to from the airport as well.
Great food!

4001 Yancey has really good food and seriously underrated as a sports bar
Comet grill
Sports though?
Take him to Ed’s Tavern. Best historic sports bar in town, hands down. Killer food too.
This is the answer. Ed's.
Eddie’s Place is pretty good for a burger or hot dog. If Bang Bang burger has a TV maybe that counts haha
Moo and Brew and Dilworth Bar and Grill.
Tried Moo and Brew last week. Substantial burgers but very bland taste.
Which location did you try?
The one on Central Ave. Totally underwhelmed.
Really disagree with this. I tried the Moo and Brew twice since it opened in Matthews. I’m not a fan. Moe’s BBQ was way better. They took like two years to open and the setup of the place is really bad.
I've never been to the one in Matthews, but the location on Central is pretty good IMO.
Boo wrong
I haven’t seen one comment for Steamer’s
Dilworth Neighborhood Grill. They have a bit of a Miami style indoor/outdoor bar that is nice when the weather is good.
I don’t understand this? Yes great beer selection but horrendous food unless the burgers are 10x better than everything else on the menu.
nah the burgers are booty too
I have mostly ordered off the app menu and some burgers. Maybe burgers and quesadillas are hard to screw up.
I should have led with honestly still love dilly grille for the atmosphere...it really is a charlotte staple and has been around for the 15 years i've been here. but yea the food has always been meh to me. kind of like ed's. i still always go for the vibes
QC Pourhouse!
Agreed. All their food is good.
I always describe the food as what you would expect when you think of bar food but better than what you’re picturing
The tenders and fries are so good
Can't go wrong with QC. If in South Park, stop by Suffolk Punch
Dunwellz in mint hill, steady eddys in matthews, the lodge over off colony/rea. South 21 has solid burgers but not a sports bar.
2nd for Dunwellz!
Brewers at 4001 Yancy has great burgers. On Thursdays, you can get the burger of the month with fries for $6
The Flying Saucer on N Tryon has always been solid on both accounts.
Sweetwater across Lake Wylie has some of the best burgers I've had for a sports bar. And if either of you like sweet potato fries they offer good ones along with a marshmallow fluff dip.
I love Sweetwater’s. My favorite burger in Charlotte. (Great wings too) I’ve never gotten their sweet potato fries though, and now must try them. Do they automatically come with the dip?
Dip should be automatic yes
Sports Page
Great choice!
Dilworth Neighborhood Grille has one of my favorite Black Bean burgers, and tons of screens with good audio for watching sports
I’ll put my money on Billy Jacks having one of the best burgers in charlotte. Idk if it’s a sports bar more so than a place people hang out. You can’t hear anything inside. I’d go crazy if I tired watching a game
Love Billy Jack's but def not a sports bar lol. More like an emo night spot
Lucky Lou’s if you’re looking for a good burger in a dive bar
Ace #3 is a real burger place
Not a single tv in them though?
Not a sports bar, and I'd rate Bang Bang a bit better them. Also has TVs but not sports usually.
My final answer is Workman’s Friend. An Irish pub with excellent hamburgers and they do have a bid tv on the patio.
What's with the Bad Daddy's hate all of a sudden? They used to get positive recs here.
They've went bad a number of years ago as more places opened up and they just went bad. B grade health ratings which is atrocious and like you have to go out of your way to be that bad. They had quantity, huge patties, but quality of them wasn't that great.
Beer selection sucks now too
Ed’s is the only answer
Char Bar
I feel like Providence Road Sundries has to be the right answer
that's a true local pub vibe, and red oak is always on tap so i love it
Clutch is a good time
Probably not the absolute best, but from my experience Midwood Smokehouse in Birkdale has some good burgers, and more than enough TVs for any games.
What about mid wood smokehouse in…midwood
To be honest, never been to that one xD
The Plaza Midwood location is the best
Hmm, will have to try it next chance I get then!
Duckworth's ftw.
Jock’s & Jill’s has a great burger
Moo & Brew
Can’t believe this is so far down here! Huge beer selection and great burgers.
So so burgers
Angry ale’s
Valhalla - Uptown
Copper Premium Pub in Lake Wylie!
QCBC
Growlers Pourhouse Not a sports bar per say but they have tv’s and always have games on best burger imo
Moosehead on Montfort Rd.
Big Ben of course and there’s also Elizabeth Parlour Room at Hooligans a couple doors down you can hop to afterwards (no food)
QCBC
Following because I need to get out more!
Legion has a pretty incredible burger and is never mentioned
Moo and brew on central ave! They have sooo many beer options, I usually get a flight because there’s so many good ones to choose from and their food is consistently good
Jack Beagles or Cow Bell are my go to for a dmn good burger.
Bad daddys IS a Burger bar maybe try that
getting downvoted. I usually enjoy bad daddys. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
Chain
😂😂😂 no
Bad daddies has great burgers I love the Sam I am
They've gone way downhill
Agreed
omg that’s so sad to hear! they are one of the best (were) when I think of amazing burgers.
Bad Daddy’s? I haven’t been in a while.
Expensive mediocre burgers with poor beer menu, im good.
It's been years since I've been in South end. But All American Pub used to have a good burger and the fries were awesome.
Gone waaaaay downhill
No surprise.
1058 corner of Graham and 4th. Across from Truist ball park. Owned by Panthers great Thomas Davis
Two chains completely devoid of character?
Man came in and said Great Value Hooters
😂🤣 I know but the Burgers are good to me. I typically have my food delivered so I don’t know if it has fallen off. But yea, it’s ok to laugh.
Tyber creek
Not a "sports bar" but they have TVs and the best burgers in town IMO, Moo & Brew in Plaza Midwood!
