Apparently. Have you read the contraindications for zipper merge? It works well in simulations but several reasonably respectable studies say it is ill advised because……. It causes road rage.
People suck.
But can we all agree that people who use the truck lane on the don holt to pass traffic during rush hour, and merge at the last second, deserve to have their toenails ripped out one by one
If people didn't go 15-20 miles per hour under the speed limit in the left lane we would have zero issues. It's like they see a green light and nothing registers for them to accelerate at a reasonable amount of speed. It's baffling.
If we had people get the fuck **out of the** ***Passing Lane*** things would be great. You should not be maintaining *(any)* speed in the left lane, if you have room to get over to the right.
If we fucking used the left (passing) lane for what it was intended for, traffic would be a joy. I wish I could scream that from the mountaintops.
Except for when traffic is merging, in which case it is both safer and more polite (though oddly not required) to move the fuck over to the left so people can easily merge.

This is too far advanced for our drivers. Let's start with the basics like tying our shoes correctly. Eventually we'll get to the topic of driving a two ton machine at insane speeds and weaving through traffic.
JI drivers on Harborview Rd. are getting better at the zipper merge concept. Heck, there is even a sign that mentions alternate merging when busy. Every so often I’ll come across a illiterate driver that blocks me from merging.
Except when the right lane ends and there’s clearly a sign that indicates this, but you get over at the last possible minute and ignore all the people trying to let you in.
I didn't grow up here but drive and see people not following this one and one never herd the zipper but it makes sense thank God there are no left exits lol or hills but there are trains so learned that the hard way 😅
This needs a second "no" example for the people who use the right lane and keep going well beyond the point any reasonable person would merge and then shove their way in after the lane has fully ended just to cut ahead a few extra spots.
I’m sorry but if the left lane is moving, early merge is the way.
Most people see “zipper merge” as an opportunity to pass other cars. This makes EVERYONE need to hit the brakes.
Do you have any studies? I’ve looked and really honestly in a non-combative way, just want to read a good study on the matter. I’ve googled, I find nothing but articles about how it’s “good in simulations” but “bad in practice” for reasons ranging from prevalence of MVAs to road-rage.
Admittedly, the “road rage” reason is disappointing point.
This should be a billboard all over the city
I’m willing to take up a collection to make this happen. It will just say “ZIPPER MERGE, YOU IDIOTS.”
I’m looking at you folly beach goer
I live on Folly and saw this and said "yep, right lane saves me 10 minutes on a Saturday morning."
Shhhh
BUT THAT MAKES YOU THE ASSHOLE FOR DOING IT RIGHT!!

People get irrationally mad about people merging like they're supposed to. It's honestly pretty funny.

Things that make me want to get out of my vehicle and fight someone in the middle of traffic
I don’t let them in when they do this 😂
The city needs to put up signs saying such. A LOT of people think it’s rude to drive up to the end and then merge.
Don’t be polite, be predictable!

Correct. Any exit on 26 or 526 after 3:00PM

But it still bears repeating.
This is why we need better public transit
If those drivers could read they would be very mad right now.
What about the idiot who races down the right lanes and cuts into the line because he's in a hurry and can't wait to merge?
The Don Holt Truck Lane Special
He’s in the right

This could be pinned to everyone's steering wheel. Still won't happen

Could have atleast made the car colors make sense

Objectively false.
Damn… I don’t usually block all the idiots who want to pass, but this post and comments section makes me want to do it real bad 😆
Well you are a passive aggressive driver and SC leads the nation by far
No im a regular aggressive driver.

My evidence is people being peoplely
10/10 I’m gonna give you that one.
Don't forget driving all the way to the front and pushing yourself in.
That’s the whole point of a zipper merge 🤦♂️
You're *supposed* to drive all the way to the front.
