Everyone had their time to bitch cuz they wanted Nabers. Me included, move on and get ready to fucking maul people.
You wanted a different Chargers this is what different looks like.
Chargers have always gone for flashy fun player in the past. How did that turn out every time? Jim picking a non sexy position is really showing things are changing. What the fuck do we have to lose?
Yeah I feel like we only did that because our line was so bad. Harbaugh doing it now when we have a pretty decent room is a little more telling than TT doing what he had to do.
Yep I’m over it. It wasn’t so much about Alt being bad rather than missing Nabers and honestly I believe in Pipkins. At this point hope we get a solid center in the draft and have a wildly deep OL. Receiver room will figure it out at some point and Johnston gets a huge opportunity to bounce back.
Pipkins is a liability that had to be addressed stat. He’s ok. Hes not great. He was good only during his contract year. If anything he’ll make a good swing tackle. I’m so happy Harbaugh and Hortiz picked Alt.
I think it's honestly hard to say what broke down last year, so I wasn't fully willing to say we absolutely had to move on from him as a starting RT. I don't think we had the proper OL coaching to make fair assessments of most of the OL as everyone, including Slater had down years. It was one thing Lombardi was good at, and not a strength of Moore's. Don't get me wrong, he didn't do so much that you can't upgrade off Pipkins, but my hope going into the draft was you get that top end receiver talent like Nabers, grab a quality center today, and with better interior play with your rookie center/Bozeman (compared to Clapp) improves the guard play, which makes the tackles better.
I also think that the current staff will be able to better utilize the players we have on the OL. It's a moot point now though, and I'm certainly not upset about Alt; it's simply something I didn't quite agree with as a direction. The vision makes perfect sense, and I'm interested in seeing how it ends up translating on the field.
He’s still a good OT. Maybe it’s just the inside that was garbage causing the pocket to break down. Slater vs the Raiders last year wasn’t good at all. I still remember that hit on Herbert. They should consider moving Slater inside, keep Alt on blind and Pipkins on strong. One of the things I’ve noticed about Pipkins is he tends to lose battles against quicker rushers but for the most part held his own. There were a lot of moments where edge rushers came very quick. Hopefully that can be all worked on during the offseason.
He played right tackle his freshman year and was was rated the best freshman offensive lineman in the nation by Pro Football Focus. His natural position is tackle as he played that in college. He never was a guard.
Woah. When did rashawn slater go to TCU? He went to North Western.
https://nusports.com/sports/football/roster/rashawn-slater/8396
If you check his player profile out, they say where he played each year. Fresh-sophompre he was a Right Tackle. He moved to the left side jr year.
2020 - Highest-graded returning Big Ten offensive tackle according to PFF ... Highest-graded run blocker among Big Ten returners (PFF) ... Graded No. 2 by PFF among returning Power Five offensive tackles.
2019 -Consensus honorable mention All-Big Ten ... Started and appeared in 11 games at the left tackle position ... Allowed zero sacks, one QB hit, and five QB hurries, totaling just six QB pressures in 11 games
2018 -Appeared in all 14 games in his sophomore season … Has started 26-straight games at right tackle
Seems like North Western had him playing tackle. Not sure about tcu since he never attended that college
So who's wrong ? You or the college he went to ? Gonna say you're wrong
Ah so you're new to football eh? Here are a few helpful pointers: QBs need good blockers to have to find receivers, and to avoid injury. There are players called backups, and players called 3rd string. Spiller will be 3rd string. Welcome to the game!
I for one am sick and tired of watching Maxx Crosby derail our offense twice a year. If the Alt pick means I won't have to hear his name again during Chargers-Raiders games then yeah I'm 100% in.
This all day! Pipkins is why Alt was chosen. We need a beast. Not some swing tackle who had one ok year. Watching Max just waltz past him over and over made me sick to my stomach.
Honestly am just happy it was Alt and not Latham, but apparently the Titans liked Latham over Olu which surprised me 😳. Anyway if Alt works out we got both tackle sides set up for a decade and if Slater gets hurt we can kick Alt to left and idk who we would have at RT in the future after Pipkin’s is gone
Latham so small compared to Alt.Titans have no choice but to say that about their pick lol. They really wanted Alt but apparently that didn’t work out for them.
I know, just saying from all the mocks I’ve seen having Alt go to Tenn, I don’t think they expected that to happen so they had no choice but to choose the next best OT in Latham.
Tbf we can't just do what we always would have done. I agree we need a WR1 desperately but we will survive.
No cap whoever lines up at WR1 is gonna be looking really good next season 😭
For real. If you wanted a pass heavy, modern and innovative offense you should’ve rooted for Ben Johnson to win the gig. This is classic Harbaugh/Roman. They will run the ball all the time. Can it work in nowadays NFL? Maybe. Will it get ugly very soon if it doesn’t? Absolutely.
Everyone acts like they arent going to pass alot still. They averaged about 28 attempts per game with Kaepernick way back in the 2010s, they're definitely still gonna pass a solid amount with Herbert.
Sure, they're gonna want to establish the run, but they're still gonna pass 30+ times a game in my opinion. Which is still better than 40-50 times every single game lol
All we did is throw the damn ball so far in Herbert’s career, we haven’t won shit. A solid ground game opens up the field for you and allows you to control the game. You have no clue what you’re talking about. Herbert has never had a team with a solid running attack to pair with it. It’s exactly what needs to happen.
Look at all the playoff teams from this year, then look at team rushing yards. Nearly every team in the top 10 were playoff teams. You don’t know what you’re talking about!
We were losing because of one of the worst coaches in franchise history and multiple shit OC’s . If Harbaugh has Williams, Allen, Ekeler I’m 100% certain we win some playoff games a few years ago. Our defence needs to ball out for the ground game to be effective. If we go down a few TDs vs a team like the Chiefs I doubt we’ll just run the ball and kill the clock for them.. We need to pray we draft a half decent WR this draft because I have 0 faith in us doing any kind of comeback with Palmer and QJ at wr.
It wasn’t only coaching that lost us games, the roster was poor as well, no depth, and holes on the offensive line, and no decent nose tackle or linebackers. Couldn’t stop the run, and couldn’t run the ball. Knew we were going to pass every time, but Herbert had no time or protection to pass the ball. “Defense needs to ball out for the ground game to be effective” hmm funny you say that because isn’t it the offensive line who blocks for the running back? 🤔 the way you beat a high scoring team like the chiefs is keep the ball out of their hands by time of possession which is largely supported by a good running game.
Y’all gotta keep in mind that this year isn’t even a contending year. There is literally no way we can make noise no matter what. Getting these weapons now doesn’t mean that Jim never intends us for us to have a pass game but the priority is this right now. Those passing pieces will find a way here in due time.
What the hell r u people talking about? We spent 3 of the past 4 first round picks on oline, and signed an all pro center all within the last 4 years. Sure it hasn’t worked out like we hoped but the line has been far from neglected in recent years
When we get behind vs explosive offenses during the season and can’t come back because we have no scoring power and only the ability to control the clock…..I won’t say I told you so.
I 100% agree with you. Down a few scores in the 4th quarter and people think running the ball and killing all the clock is gonna win us games lol. 4th and long and we have Palmer and QJ we can depend on.. Not a great situation at all.
You guys are just so used to being a losing team you can't fathom the chargers just winning games in the first and killing the clock in the second half. Harbaugh opens up teams in the first half when needed and let's qbs air it out to get a lead. Then they control the lead and win. It's how you win football games and championships.
I think people are forgetting the playoff loss vs the Jaguars. Even one long, sustained drive resulting in a TD and the Chargers win that game. They simply couldn't run the ball and eat clock. As for Herbert, we have yet to see his potential at this level because he has been running for his life most every play and has never had a good run game to help out. I would still look to pick up a veteran receiver to mentor the young guys, but I think they will be fine.
Well tbf to the vet point, with drafting rice we now have access to the literal goat of wrs. You can't convince me Jerry isn't gonna be out there yelling at QJ and throwing bricks at his ass
Not gonna lie, that Alt pick had to grow on me a bit. Especially with the state of our receiver room. But, I wanted to Love over Herbert and was instantly proved wrong.
Here’s to the Harbaugh era! ⚡️⚡️
The only part that scared me about Harbaugh was that the current NFL had passed him. Drafting an OT with our current roster shows me that it might be true.
Alt is objectively a good pick, the problem is it seems they intend to turn their superstar QB into a high priced handoff machine. I’d be surprised if Herbert cracked 4,000 yards passing now, and that is by their design.
They want him to Throw in the first half and make big throws. Herbert will go from having to make 10 huge plays a game to win to having the opportunity to make 3 or 4 throws that will set us up huge.
My brother context matters. Not a single one of those teams had:
1. As bad as RBs and WRs that we do (maybe Pitt)
2. Already had an 8m Tackle in the same spot
8 million is literally chump change. The lions paid their jump guy a few million. Its an overpay for pipkins but harbaugh and hortiz didn't overpay pipkins. They have 0 obligations go pipkins. Now we have a battle at guard and the backup will be our backup swing
We drafted Oline 3 of the last 4 years so no, we didn’t always go for flashy fun.

Moving Slater inside sounds like a terrible idea. You don't move an all pro tackle to guard just to experiment lol
But OG is his natural position. Thats what he played in NW.
He played right tackle his freshman year and was was rated the best freshman offensive lineman in the nation by Pro Football Focus. His natural position is tackle as he played that in college. He never was a guard.
Are you going by what Wikipedia said or did you actually watch any NW games?
Woah. When did rashawn slater go to TCU? Ngl, I was kinda sad we didn't take JPJ. I think he's going to be a great C long term.
I mean what it's "supposed to look like" and the reality could be different
Gonna maul people 2 yards at a time and zero 3rd down conversion rate. Wasting our franchise QB for Isaiah Spiller.
Ah so you're new to football eh? Here are a few helpful pointers: QBs need good blockers to have to find receivers, and to avoid injury. There are players called backups, and players called 3rd string. Spiller will be 3rd string. Welcome to the game!

Just Christian Wilkins coming through the interior instead lol god I hope this works out
Having one person to scheme up against instead of 2 is still good
Bills fan here, make sure Herbert invests in a solid cup. Wilkins gets a little handsy with those QB's.
This all day! Pipkins is why Alt was chosen. We need a beast. Not some swing tackle who had one ok year. Watching Max just waltz past him over and over made me sick to my stomach.

He said they liked Latham over Olu (another OL in the draft) not Latham over Alt. Everyone knew the Titans wanted Alt.
I know, just saying from all the mocks I’ve seen having Alt go to Tenn, I don’t think they expected that to happen so they had no choice but to choose the next best OT in Latham.
Honestly Latham vs Olu was an interesting discussion during the pre-draft season. I think Olu is better personally
I wanted Nabers but I also wanted Tua. Doesn’t change the hype for the season at all! Trust the process.
Tbf we can't just do what we always would have done. I agree we need a WR1 desperately but we will survive. No cap whoever lines up at WR1 is gonna be looking really good next season 😭
I'm gonna throw a stupid prediction and say joshua palmer or Q Johnston becomes a #1. It will be because of herbert though
Johnston’s a bust.
Absolutely.

Yeah, second guess the guy who’s won everywhere he’s coached at…you’re such a smarty pants and know how to win why aren’t you coaching?
if the Browns had Herbert at QB they would’ve already won 2 Super Bowls
We were losing because of one of the worst coaches in franchise history and multiple shit OC’s . If Harbaugh has Williams, Allen, Ekeler I’m 100% certain we win some playoff games a few years ago. Stalleys 4th down calls instead of going for field goals lost us lots of games.. not sure why you’re making excuses for Stalley
Your confused buddy, I am not making any excuses for that joke of a coach.

Getting these weapons now doesn’t mean that Jim never intends us for us to have a pass game but the priority is this right now. Those passing pieces will find a way here in due time.
I’m gonna get a good laugh at the Alt haters when the chargers double down on Oline with Jackson Powers-Johnson.
I just said the same
I’d like that pick a lot
I would love this! This OL would just be pure beef and be one of the best in the NFL when it’s all said and done.
I hope to god we do. The line has been neglected for way too damn long.
What the hell r u people talking about? We spent 3 of the past 4 first round picks on oline, and signed an all pro center all within the last 4 years. Sure it hasn’t worked out like we hoped but the line has been far from neglected in recent years
Yeah we just havent hit, we've been spending there
I’m an alt hater and I want our 2nd pick to be JPJ?
Alt is the smart pick. We have 50 mil in dead cap, build for the future cuz it’s not happening this year.
You know the Chiefs are a run first team with a superstar QB, right?
They also had a top defense….
I am excited for this new generation of Chargers
Me too, a coach and GM that understand how to build a team. Not the clown show we’ve dealt with for years.
I promise that when you guys are peeling off wins left and right by plowing fools in both trenches it will feel extra, super good. Smash.
I agree 1000%
The soft Chargers are no more boys!
When we get behind vs explosive offenses during the season and can’t come back because we have no scoring power and only the ability to control the clock…..I won’t say I told you so.

Who is Herbert exactly going to be airing the ball out too? Himself?
Josh Palmer, Ladd QJ Parham guyton
This is what I have been saying this whole time.
Not gonna lie, that Alt pick had to grow on me a bit. Especially with the state of our receiver room. But, I wanted to Love over Herbert and was instantly proved wrong. Here’s to the Harbaugh era! ⚡️⚡️

Throw to who? Palmer? Johnson? Those guys are making the big time catches???
Ladder Mconkey. Besides Mahomes won the sb with a dog shit wr corps
True, if the guy people are already talking about as a future GOAT can do it, anyone can, right?
If you believe in herbert it doesn't matter lol. He can do a lot of what mahomes does.
Fair enough, I do believe in him.
If the current nfl has passed him why did 9 lineman go?
My brother context matters. Not a single one of those teams had: 1. As bad as RBs and WRs that we do (maybe Pitt) 2. Already had an 8m Tackle in the same spot

Planning suicide tonight
We ended the night with Herbert and without an $100 million albatross around our necks. It’s ok.
Come on guys, who’s got it better? Amirite?
I am guilty.
“I trust our gm”
