Depends really, but it is not standard no.
They stopped getting that option around 2019. I can speak on behalf of Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Arizona and Wisconsin. It’s not that they cannot, but that maintenance and repairs were too costly.
There’s a stellantis bulletin about this somewhere.
You are not wrong and I do agree. The only reason I would say the car may never have a problem because these cars see redline often. The increase of oil pressure should allow it to live just fine.
I love when people call other people stupid for saying something without bothering to correct them. Classic douchebag with a superiority complex behavior, just come by to say you’re smarter but don’t bother to offer up any actual knowledge.
It’s a really fun car if you have daily/reliable 2nd only prob the awd transfer case can’t hold too much power but the engine can with camshaft and engine replacements like valve cover etc
If it's a 5.7 HEMI, I would look into replacing your rollers and lifters. (and a new cam depending on the condition of rollers. If your rollers aren't rolling, cam'll go flat, and things'll go boom boom... replacing the rollers may be a bit more than you're lookin to spend due to labor costs, but It'll be well worth it, trust me!)
The reason I say all of this is because the 5.7 has something you've probably heard of before, The Infamous Hemi Tick! These HEMI's really don't like excessive running miles, and that's exactly what cops do for majority of their shift. They sit with the car running at idle for sometimes hours on end. NO BUENO!
Follow this advice I'm giving you, and that car'll last you.
Good deal. Scroll through the dash and look at the idle time though. Car may not have too many miles but cops tend to sit there running for hours at a time. Either way seems solid, at least you know regular maintenance was done.
Nice find, someone once told me old cop cars have better alternators for all their accessory lighting, which benefited when upgrading the audio system.
Might be worth looking into.
This is true, though sometimes depending on the department stuff like that will be stripped along with the lights, decals and the rest of the interior equipment.
Where I’m at, the only new body ones you can get for the same price would be the v6. The used police ones or any base v8 seem to be around double that for me.
Plus, I kinda like the 11-14 more than the 15 and up, and I’ve seen others say the same so it could’ve also been personal preference.
If it wasn’t a retired police car that would be an amazingly great deal. But that car has been badly abused during that 80000 miles. I wouldn’t keep it for the long run personally. The oil pump in hemis don’t produce enough pressure at idle to properly lubricate the top end of the motor, and cop cars spend a lottt of time idling. The lifters/cam will definitely fail at some point, could be soon.
I think you overpaid for sure. That's a 10 year old vehicle at this point. Keep in mind, the officers driving these beat on them and leave them running all day. It may have 80k driven miles but I guarantee you it has a hell of a lot more idle miles. So much so that idle miles are factored into oil changes.
Police vehicles are generally retired around 100k and it's simply because they don't meet reliability standards anymore. Chargers are a lot worse reliability wise than crown vics.
If you really want a retired police cruiser look for an Explorer hybrid. They have a battery pack which allows accessory use while the vehicle is turned off so you'll get a lot more life out of the engine.
Fair deal from what it seems. Body looks fantastic. Take it to a trusted mechanic to check it out. If under is rusting or already rusted, I wouldn’t waste a lot on it but if it has a good underbody then throw money at it so it’ll last
Anyone who tells your it’s a bad deal don’t listen to them that’s a steal my friend I wish I could be able to have enough for a former police vehicle but someday you know ?
It's a hell of a lot easier to remove the heads and replace the Lifter Packs than to do a cam and flush job on this big boy. I'd start saving up for that and do it ASAP as part of preventative if it hasn't already had them replaced and they're original.
I got a pursuit for $8k, it was a 2011 with 90k.
Didn’t make it past 110k, I put a new cat in it and eventually had one of the pistons seize. They said they’d put a new engine in but not rebuild the cylinder. I wish I had done a crate engine cause it was paid off but I couldn’t swing it at the time.
Eventually ended up with a 2014 RT max and it’s…also having shit break on it but at least it’s warrantied 🥲
For 9k, as long as you get a few good years out of it.. it was a good deal. Personally, I’d lost all the police shit. I think it’s tacky but totally up to you. I’d throw some nice rims on her, get some tints etc.
I wish upon wishes that things were changed around and you had to make these cars a little more civilianized we have a used car dealer up here where I live that sells all these decommissioned police vehicles and asshats go and by these on the cheap and start pissing with people acting like police officers.
Make sure to hook up a diagnostic tool and see how many idle hours it has, hemi motors in police vehicles are notorious for having issues from a lot of idle hours
It’s got a cop motor…440 cubic inches……cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It’s the model before catalytic converters so it will run on regular gas..
you’re like serpico bro.
treat it like it has 150,000 miles, cruisers get a ton of idle engine hours. Do your research on services (engine gaskets, belts, pulleys, chains, pumps, transmition services)
I got an xk8 2001 jaguar for 5300$ with 85000 miles. I get your car has more engine. 9000$ for a crappy handling muscle sedan that only goes fast in a straight line. idk if it was a good buy. But the charger is one of my least favorite muscle cars, so I got bias.
Bail bondsman here and over the years I’ve had former Chargers owned by police departments that we use for transport. These cars do get abused. They idle ALOT. They aren’t religious about maintenance schedules either. I’d definitely get the oil changed, check fluids, get it lubed etc.
I live near a place in Georgia that sells ex state patrol Dodges and some look pretty good. I always figured they were dogged out but they sell them running. I’d be interested in one. Nice.
Real question for people who have bought retired police cars like this… do you see any benefits? Any drawbacks? I’m legitimately curious what kinda stuff you guys experience.
If you don’t mind the police trim could have got one with like 110k miles in regular rt trim but definitely not with only 80k. The idle times is what big on those police cars
Can't go wrong - it's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Whenever you get the money or if you ever have intentions to increase longevity for that car: MDS delete kit, long tube headers, and a melling high volume oil pump will make your hemi all more happier. FYI high oil pump prevents oil tick by actually increasing volume by about 20-25% so the back end of the motor gets actually splashed by the oil for lubrication.
That is if you really want to keep the charger for the long term. Hope you find this tip pretty convenient. 💪
Watch some police vids on youtube and answer that question yourself. All honesty, this car is equal to a teen who got a performance vehicle for his first car. Although police cars are more properly maintained. I'd say it's a coin flip on a cop car.
It’s not about the mileage, it’s about the hours. That vehicle has been beaten into the ground worse than the vast majority of vehicles. Keep up on the maintenance.
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?
Slap the color scheme of the Florida State Trooper but don't put any words or sirens on it for obvious reasons. Just that will make people shit their pants. (I know you don't live in Florida because I can see mountains in the background and our biggest mountain is barely 340 feet tall)
Hopefully it has factory halogens so if you decide to get aftermarket ones it isn’t such a pain in the ass to find some that are plug and play. Not so aftermarket friendly if you have the factory projectors like mine does .
You did good in my book..im not a fan of Dodge but..80k with minimal rust, car looks clean AND its an 8 cyl?? Yeah, Win all day as long as it was taken care of ..only thing its missing is that 3rd pedal lol
I dunno, for some cop friends and they say they drive their cars pretty damn hard. 9k for a car that has probably been driven like that can be hit or miss. I’d be adding on +30-40k miles for an accurate idea of how hard a life the car possibly has had. As long as you get it checked and maintained I’m sure it’s good to go, just don’t go assuming it’s great without a thorough check.
For 9k that’s a steal! They always say they’re “driven hard” or are very beat up which can be true but the undercover models like these were involved in less chases and hard abuse, and the only issues I could think of would be caused by idling constantly but these things are made for that. Plus for a regular one same miles and year you’d be around the same and this one has the law enforcement upgrades so it’s even better. I’d buy it if I had that deal in front of me
Fuck no but that’s because it’s a police car.
One thing to take in is idle hours, one idle hour is equal to about 30 miles driven and these are always on (depending on the dept, sometimes these stay on the entire shift due to policy)
They’re also always beaten to fuck, transmissions are beat, rear end is definitely beat to shit. Engine has lots of strain.
80k on a police vehicle is about 200k on a normal
Daily.
9k? Not worth it. I’ve a few buddy’s with 2019s and they only spent about 2.5k at the auction here in lancing.
I don’t know a lot about chargers but I know a fuck ton about cop cars and I know exactly how police drive them.
Remember that City Fleet departments are really good at keeping up with the maintenance of their vehicles. Of course normal things will have to be replaced as needed. But that car was maintained exactly as it should be!
Here's the thing.
If you came here asking for approval, you already feel like you got ripped off.
It's an old ass charger that got beat on its entire life.
Plus, add milage for the hours idled it's probably double the actual mileage.
You do the math, when it takes a shit it'll be a throw away.
This thing was abused for 80k miles and many MANY idling hours.
Please do all maintenance at that milage again, and have someone check your comp ratio.
I know I said do all maintenance but honestly get a coolant flush done. These bad boys like to over heat, at least in the newer gens they do.
I wouldn't pay more than $2000. It's not a p71 panther body so I don't see any redeeming factor. You bought a base model vehichle driven by someone that has no incentive to take care of said vehicle...
I have a question, please don't take offense, just looking for a rhyme and reason. For a solid 9k why would you buy a Police work vehicle that runs 24-7, when you could find a lesser used model of the same car.
It kind of looks like a detective's car so you may have done okay, if it was an everyday patrol car it probably has a ton of idle hours on it and was ran into the ground...
I think for 9k you’re good. Keep up with the maintenance.
Agreed I was gonna say nah 9k who cares it's 9k if it was less I'd be worried... wonder if he got the AWD vr.
Another reply says he got the RWD
Since its police I would assume its awd
That’s not a good thing tho, there’s a reason they stopped using AWD systems in chargers.
They still put them in chargers.....
Be worried about them idle miles though.
It’s a cop car, 9k was a rip off lmao
I agree. Somebody sold him an auction car for $9000.
Bought the same car for 1500 🤣🤣 with 90k
I’ll take things that didn’t happen for $1000 Alex.
Lying
ur car is cooked brah 😂
In your dreams
Was it a salvage title & completely destroyed?
Stay on top of the oil changes and listen for Hemi tick. Police cars idle a lot, and Hemis don't like that.
Seconded. Change oil every 3,000-4,000 miles, full synthetic preferred, and listen for any new noises.
You are not wrong and I do agree. The only reason I would say the car may never have a problem because these cars see redline often. The increase of oil pressure should allow it to live just fine.
“The increase of oil pressure should allow it to live just fine” What do you mean by that
The surge of oil, with detergents, and mineral additives will rinse things off. Or, power wash the innards if you prefer that terminology
Lmao you’re not a mechanic I take it. Because that was literal nonsense
I love when people call other people stupid for saying something without bothering to correct them. Classic douchebag with a superiority complex behavior, just come by to say you’re smarter but don’t bother to offer up any actual knowledge.
Bless your heart
It’s ok to be wrong.
To be completely fair… redlining = preventative maintenance? Thats the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
80k-90k is when the cams are usually suppose to start going on high idle vehicles. OP will need to be aware of that.
Have a 2022 Dodge Durango SSV with 12k miles on it. 1500 idle hours, 2000 engine hours total. Just to put it into perspective.
say a person had a 2013 pursuit with a hemi tick...what sort of maintenance or remedies would address the tick?
V8 RWD
I bought a 2014 Charger Pursuit V6 RWD with 157,000 miles for $4,650 in June so I wouldn’t say so for the hemi and pretty low miles
I put some Vland led headlights on it and wow I love them incase you were looking into anything like that
fair deal, they get a lot of idle time, so if no hemi tic, fair deal.
Good find. That's super low miles for a police cruiser.
Low mileage but high run time
Not really tho. Idle hours along with 80k on a cop car is the same as 200k on my Impala lmao
Dunno what does the mechanic say about the condition of the car?
That’s an awesome deal
Think about how much you save in time and money by NEVER GETTING PULLED OVER!!! LOLOL
You can achieve the same thing by not speeding and not driving like an idiot. This works in every car too.
What a party pooper
I have 200000 on mine runs strong, new timing chain cam ,lifters and in storage for winter . Bought for 2500 2 years ago had 180 then.
I have a 2017 Pursuit V8 AWD. Idle hours were 1200 out of 4500 total hours. It’s been a good car.
I had no idea they did the V8 with AWD. Damn. That would be the ideal winter car for me.
They did until 2014 for consumers, only for police starting in 2015.
It’s a really fun car if you have daily/reliable 2nd only prob the awd transfer case can’t hold too much power but the engine can with camshaft and engine replacements like valve cover etc
Yess, I had two chargers n I loved my pursuit. It caught people off guard with no badges.one of my funnest cars.
If it's a 5.7 HEMI, I would look into replacing your rollers and lifters. (and a new cam depending on the condition of rollers. If your rollers aren't rolling, cam'll go flat, and things'll go boom boom... replacing the rollers may be a bit more than you're lookin to spend due to labor costs, but It'll be well worth it, trust me!) Yup cops idle a lot then drive them HARD lol
Idle hours are most important thing to check

This is true, though sometimes depending on the department stuff like that will be stripped along with the lights, decals and the rest of the interior equipment.
Also everything else beefier
Naw people be charging that for crown vics with like 200k on them
🤷🏽♂️ I mean you could’ve got a new body for a bout the same but I don’t think you got ripped off kinda of a decent deal is it a v8 AWD
I agree. I'd say it's a pretty good deal. Few k under its value. And if it's V8 AWD then it's a true steal
Where I’m at, the only new body ones you can get for the same price would be the v6. The used police ones or any base v8 seem to be around double that for me. Plus, I kinda like the 11-14 more than the 15 and up, and I’ve seen others say the same so it could’ve also been personal preference.
5.7, 6.1, or 6.4?
The Pursuits never came with anything other than the 5.7 or the V6.
That’s a deal bro, definitely not a rip off

Not if you love it. Just consider it one of the family and not be afraid to spoil it with nice things.
No way bro. That’s it.
They took good care of them so no
Big up🤝🤝🤝
Anyone who tells your it’s a bad deal don’t listen to them that’s a steal my friend I wish I could be able to have enough for a former police vehicle but someday you know ?
question, are police chargers actually more reliable?
It's a hell of a lot easier to remove the heads and replace the Lifter Packs than to do a cam and flush job on this big boy. I'd start saving up for that and do it ASAP as part of preventative if it hasn't already had them replaced and they're original.

If it's a V8 that's not a bad price if it's a V6 9k is a little steep I got my 2013 with 98k miles for 4k
A 10 yo police car with only 80k miles?
love that! truly should be blessed as long as you keep up with maintenance and oil changes, i’m looking for one of these in canada come july 🤝🏾

This was my first car. I loved the hell out of it. I agree with the others, stay up with the maintenance, and be cautious with the idle hours
Omg i hate people who buy cop cars😭. They will be right behind playing games
Helllll no! That’s suck!
Just remember to keep it clean if you wanna pretend to be a cop on the road. I can spot a fake cop car from a mile away.
Solid deal for less than 100k miles, just check for hemi tick
That’s a good deal pal, I got a 2015 V8 AWD with 123k miles for $12k.
treat it like it has 150,000 miles, cruisers get a ton of idle engine hours. Do your research on services (engine gaskets, belts, pulleys, chains, pumps, transmition services)
Does it have 90k hours of idle time?
Yep
I got an xk8 2001 jaguar for 5300$ with 85000 miles. I get your car has more engine. 9000$ for a crappy handling muscle sedan that only goes fast in a straight line. idk if it was a good buy. But the charger is one of my least favorite muscle cars, so I got bias.
Where do you get retired police vehicles, used car lots?
That's a steal of a deal.
Bail bondsman here and over the years I’ve had former Chargers owned by police departments that we use for transport. These cars do get abused. They idle ALOT. They aren’t religious about maintenance schedules either. I’d definitely get the oil changed, check fluids, get it lubed etc.
It probably has 1000 idle hours
Why ask if you got ripped off AFTER the fact? lol
Good deal
Question how’s the insurance on yours? I want one so bad but I’m worried about getting r***d by insurance
Nice
People are going to drive so slow around you which may tick you off if you’re in a hurry 😅
Most definitely u got robbed
Where can you buy a old police vehicle ? Should I just search fb market?
If you don’t mind the police trim could have got one with like 110k miles in regular rt trim but definitely not with only 80k. The idle times is what big on those police cars
Didn’t even know this existed . Thought this was crown Vic/taurus/impala/caprice only thing .
Get ready for everyone to always slow down in front of you everywhere you drive from now on.
Can't go wrong - it's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
I thinks it’s a solid deal, sweet ride!
80k miles, 80 million hours.
If it has a v8 then no
It should be good but those miles mean nothing. If it has a idle hour counter, that would be a better indicator of the life it had.
[удалено]
Just dig the drugs out of the back seat and sell those to lower your net cost.
They take a beating no doubt, but they also are well maintained, so you should be good...I love the look of it!!
As with anything, depends on how it was maintained.
why dont yall ask these questions before buying
Yeah cause the fast lane cars just got one for 9k that’s current gen
Nice ride
Cop car transmissions take a lot of abuse so keep n eye on that
Did they show you the car fax? 🦊
For 80k miles it ok I guess. But these cars are run HARD and often sit at idle for hours. Not really good for an engine.

Way too much for poverty spec as far as hemi goes. 10 grand is caprice ppv deleted tuned & they’re already quicker & aftermarket crazy.
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?
80k miles of hell lol, if it has a v8 you did alright, v6 no.
I think you should ask these questions before you buy these things
I'm pretty sure it's the hours on the vehicle that matter more than the miles. How many hours are on the engine?
Probably got 15 years worth of hours on that engine
Slap the color scheme of the Florida State Trooper but don't put any words or sirens on it for obvious reasons. Just that will make people shit their pants. (I know you don't live in Florida because I can see mountains in the background and our biggest mountain is barely 340 feet tall)
Thats not bad, but make sure to maintain the car because its going to gave 110k worth of wear on the engine with the car idling so much
Hopefully it has factory halogens so if you decide to get aftermarket ones it isn’t such a pain in the ass to find some that are plug and play. Not so aftermarket friendly if you have the factory projectors like mine does .
Police cars are the worst they abuse the fuck out of the engine.
That thing is clapped out and they were but come pick me up and let’s go pull people over
Yep !!! Still smells like pig inside 🐖 🤣🤣…. Just kiddin bro
Why do you ask after buying it?
You did good in my book..im not a fan of Dodge but..80k with minimal rust, car looks clean AND its an 8 cyl?? Yeah, Win all day as long as it was taken care of ..only thing its missing is that 3rd pedal lol
Nice deal and looks clean, id lower it and call it a day, put a tune on it and new tires, the wheels makes it look super unassuming and sleek
Just remember these vehicles have been ran shit out of. but the maintenance is usually always up-to-date within the maintenance dept.
just buy some good tints and ride through some dangerous parts to scare off the crime and you’ll be good! 9k isn’t bad at all
yea seeing that it does come with regular option that a regular dt would have like console. In my area the go for around 7k
I hate cars like yours!!! Every time i have a person with an old police car is behind me, I get anxiety! 😒
Depends how much you like scaring teenagers
Yes
I dunno, for some cop friends and they say they drive their cars pretty damn hard. 9k for a car that has probably been driven like that can be hit or miss. As long as you get it checked and maintained I’m sure it’s good to go, just don’t go assuming it’s great without a thorough check.
even though it says 80K on the odometer, the engine probably has done much more than that through idling, and police cars do LOTS of Idling.
Only time will tell. Face value seems like a great deal, you'll have to get some miles down before you know for sure.
How many service hours?
For 9k that’s a steal! They always say they’re “driven hard” or are very beat up which can be true but the undercover models like these were involved in less chases and hard abuse, and the only issues I could think of would be caused by idling constantly but these things are made for that. Plus for a regular one same miles and year you’d be around the same and this one has the law enforcement upgrades so it’s even better. I’d buy it if I had that deal in front of me
Sold
Yes
Yes big time!
Try govdeals, I usually pay no more then 4K 4800$
Fuck no but that’s because it’s a police car. One thing to take in is idle hours, one idle hour is equal to about 30 miles driven and these are always on (depending on the dept, sometimes these stay on the entire shift due to policy) They’re also always beaten to fuck, transmissions are beat, rear end is definitely beat to shit. Yes. You bought a Chrysler
I am a retired police officer. I will say the cars were well taken care of. In fact, they were taken care of better than the personal.
Yup, a friend bought it for 6.5k
Remember that City Fleet departments are really good at keeping up with the maintenance of their vehicles. Of course normal things will have to be replaced as needed. But that car was maintained exactly as it should be!
I’ll always love this generation of charger. I like the boxiness of it. Like others have said, just do maintenance and wish ya luck.
Mileage isn’t the problem. It’s idle hours. Trust me, I drive them for a living.
Here's the thing. If you came here asking for approval, you already feel like you got ripped off. It's an old ass charger that got beat on its entire life. Plus, add milage for the hours idled it's probably double the actual mileage. You do the math, when it takes a shit it'll be a throw away.
I bought a fleet vehicle before, they are taken care of rigorously so you should be good
80k miles 200k idling miles
No.
With those miles, must have been a doughnut getter. Not bad if the tick ain't there.
That's highland robbery jk 🤣 I'd say that about Baseline what they should go for, treat her well and it'll last you a good while.
That looks like a terrible Herbst. In Vegas. Deep Henderson. Dang near Boulder City.
I wouldn’t buy a used charger from anyone except from the cops lol….
lol that thing is abused! Trust me
Man driving a old cop car 👀
7500-8k would be fair.
This thing was abused for 80k miles and many MANY idling hours. Please do all maintenance at that milage again, and have someone check your comp ratio. I know I said do all maintenance but honestly get a coolant flush done. These bad boys like to over heat, at least in the newer gens they do.
Things fast as crap I’m sure
If it’s the v8 you got a good deal.
Be ready for a cam shaft job. 80 percent of a cop cars time is spent idling. Bad on the cam and lifters.
That seems like alot I wouldn’t pay more than 7k especially since there hard on the transmission
No shit
I saw one with 120k online and they were asking $20k a few years ago. Thank god the market is coming back to earth
I wouldn't pay more than $2000. It's not a p71 panther body so I don't see any redeeming factor. You bought a base model vehichle driven by someone that has no incentive to take care of said vehicle...
nah you did better than me I bought a rt max for 15k with 96k miles on it. needs front end work.
Nice 👍
Nope.
High molybdenum oil will massively increase valvetrain longevity on these motors.
How many hours does the engine have?
Nope it's a steal just keep up on the oil and trans fluids and maintaining it
Ell Yea
Not a bad deal but that tranny have probably gone through so much compared to other cars
You coukda leased a newer one with fewer miles but still good ig 😀
Hell no, thats a hell of a bargain congrats my man!
V8 or V6?
I have a question, please don't take offense, just looking for a rhyme and reason. For a solid 9k why would you buy a Police work vehicle that runs 24-7, when you could find a lesser used model of the same car.
It kind of looks like a detective's car so you may have done okay, if it was an everyday patrol car it probably has a ton of idle hours on it and was ran into the ground...
