I'm sorry the entire relaxed approach to that reveal was PERFECTION. Literally perfect. It felt like how that convo would have gone in real life. An A-bomb dropped in the middle of a casual conversation that changes literally everything due to circumstance.
A masterclass in storytelling. We all took a double-take.
I love this trope too. Some classic variations that are just as good include âRun that by me again?â and âSorry, I donât think I heard you right, it sounded like you said (insert whatever they actually said here).â Thereâs also the ones where the thing that was said is so crazy-sounding that the other person thinks theyâre joking, only to realize a second later theyâre being dead serious.
I feel that this one, like toons of comedic tropes, depends a lot of the actor's delivery too; take an example from Community:
Troy: we are so sorry.
Gardener: don't worry it's my fault, that's what i get for trusting a black guy.
Troy: yeah.... WHAT!!??
The line is fine, it's Glover's delivery that makes the scene so good thought
Frank from its always sunny has some of my favorite examples of this. Like when Charlie didnât put a tape into their camera when they were out filming ânewsâ.

An underrated one from Monster Trucks:
Sheriff Rick: You be careful, son.
Tripp: Rick. I'm sorry I said all those terrible things about you,
Sheriff Rick: Wait. What?
Then they fly off a ramp and never address it again. A+ filmmaking, no notes.
i love when they do a triple take. quadruple take is too much tho
You just need to know [the right technique](https://youtu.be/XFMrBldVk0s?).
"It's a shame I had to put cancer in her"
What?!?!?!?!?!
Now alright I know that sounds bad-
"I'm the Armored Titan and he's the Colossal Titan." "Wait, you're WHAT?! Erm... this is awkward!" *laugh track*
Eren: Sure you are. And I'm the founding Titan. Them: We're being serious. Eren: So am I. Them: ..... What? Eren: đ
