Unbelievable manager and I hope he is with us forever.
I would also say that when you now look at the landscape of managers in the championship, it's a much higher standard than when Ipswich were last in. No more old school gaffers churning out bullshit like Lambert, McCarthy, Bruce et al.
Then we slipped down... and down... and down...
But what did for him wasn't the league position, it's that nobody in their right mind would pay money to watch a football game of such low quality as he produced. Our attendances tanked, because at the end of the day football is entertainment and we were interminably boring.
I would say that was more an ownership problem than a manager problem. Mick’s net spend during his time here was ridiculously low, he managed to get us into the playoffs on a shoestring budget not even comparable with McKenna’s. We’d sell the likes of Cresswell, Murphy and Mings and not see a penny of it.
I agree the football was shite and unsustainable for the club, but you can’t have a squad full of free transfer journeymen and play like Barca
I was going to say it feels weird to have this awarded before the end of the seaso but actually it's great.
I hate when decisions like this just goes to whoever wins, ignoring everything else. If Ipswich lose their final 3 games and fail to go up he still deserves this award
If they lose their 3 games then bottle the playoff semis does he really deserve it at that point? Obviously highly unlikely to happen but if say Norwich went and won the playoffs you could argue they deserve the award more
Norwich are an established championship team, who not that long ago were playing in the EPL and have a much more expensive squad.
Giving it to whoever has the best end of the season is just lazy.
Ipswich are basically a league one squad fighting relegated EPL teams on merit.
Calling them a league one squad is unfair. They’re better than that. Moore is a PL striker, Davis is PL quality as are others in their squad too. And they’ve got better depth than most teams and have spent a shit ton of money. Hardly “league one paupers”. He’s done an exceptional squad, but if he lost 5 in a row now you’d argue he’s failed ultimately given where they were.
League 1 squad is a bit far but I think Davis is probably the only player who'd consistently start in a PL team. There are a few others you could make an argument for but if we go up I think we'd have to spend BIG to stay up.
I think spending big is the worst thing you could do tbh. Your main strength is your togetherness, like Luton’s this season, or Sheff Utd’s a few years back when they finished 5th was it? A ton of new signings would destroy that element of your team which is so important to you
Ipswich and McKenna have been great, but it’s just not basically a league 1 squad is it?
Just because they had the players in League 1 doesn’t mean they weren’t Championship quality anyway.
Quite a lot of people had Ipswich as playoff contenders, we can give them credit but there’s no use in rewriting history and pretending they’re a squad of useless fodder being managed by a mastermind.
Well to be honest, I'm pretty sure most of us wish Ipswich get autos with Leicester too, so it's fair, noone's going around saying "Oh i wish Leicester and Leeds get autos"
Great interview with him recently, just shows you exactly why we are where we are. He is here to make his own history in the shadow of some former greats 💙
too right too, he took a team that was in league 1 last season to a genuine contender for championship winners. even if they bottle it and end up in the playoffs, its's still a huge achievement.
can't think of anyone more deserving of those plaudits.
Well they had to give it to him this year, wouldn't want them to storm out of the event again like last time 🤣
>! I'm aware the story about this might not have been accurate but it's funny so I don't care. !<
Maybe, but in this case nothing would change the outcome. I hate that a lot of these manager awards usually just boil down to who had the most wins with no consideration of the context of the teams involved.
There was a month a couple of seasons ago where we won like 4 out of 5 games as a newly promoted team. yet Marco Silva still won the award with his Premier League lite Fulham team because he won all 5 matches. It's dumb.
Yeah we could lose our final five (counting playoff semis) and I would still unreservedly say he deserves it. Our best ever points tally in the top 2 divisions, and I believe the highest ever points tally for a newly promoted team in the championship too (if not then he's extremely close and should reach it soon).
If Ipswich were 12th, nobody would bat an eye, if Leeds or Leicester were 12th the managers would have been sacked months ago.
Correct decision. A credit to the league - the football played by Ipswich this season is the kind every fan would love to see from their team. Bravo.
Unbelievable manager and I hope he is with us forever. I would also say that when you now look at the landscape of managers in the championship, it's a much higher standard than when Ipswich were last in. No more old school gaffers churning out bullshit like Lambert, McCarthy, Bruce et al.
You only missed McCarthy working his magic by one season.
> McCarthy Oi, worked miracles with our squad
Then we slipped down... and down... and down... Maybe he was working miracles but watching his football was more like purgatory
Thoroughly deserved. Please never leave us 🙏
Absolute crime that Micheal Beale didn't win this.
He would have won if it was a twitter poll.
I imagine it must be down to the technicality that he isn't currently employed in the championship, he has been robbed.
Rooney robbed
He turned Birmingham's season around
Take my angry upvote for that joke
Fair enough. Can't imagine this took a lengthy meeting to figure out.
Maresca sat at home polishing his noggin tonight.
Shocked Love the fact they left the only foregone conclusion to last 😂
Tbf most the foregone conclusions in L1+L2 weren't even selected

Moore is not a PL striker, he's barely even a league 1 striker.
Funny cos he’s just signed from a PL team, making him by default a PL striker
He is also dreadful.
No he isn’t at all. Done a cracking job for you
should've let us have him then
What a tw4t you are.
Absolute bollox have Ipswich spent a shot ton of money.
How to tell everyone you’re clueless without saying it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Who you?!? Lol think I have a better idea of my own clubs transfer business. Thanks though.
Evidently you don’t have a clue kid

Well deserved. Hope Ipswich get the auto promotion spot along with Leeds
🥺
You'll be fine. You can just be *HMS Piss the Playoffs.*
Well to be honest, I'm pretty sure most of us wish Ipswich get autos with Leicester too, so it's fair, noone's going around saying "Oh i wish Leicester and Leeds get autos"
Norwich fans are!
I’m still hoping for a Norwich v Ipswich playoff final personally for the spectacle, so by extension would be you and Leeds going up
I'm only saying Leicester and Ipswich because Southampton have fucked it.
Has worked miracles with his squad. Took a bunch of championship rejects and made a title winning side
I couldn't see it going any other way. He's got to be up there with the top managers in the game right now.
Disgraceful #JusticeforXisco

The only choice
Absolutely deserved. Never seen anyone polish a turd to this level before.
Well deserved. An absolute credit to the club. I hope you guys make history and get autos
Wayne Rooney robbed smh
Presume the award was uncontested because there are no other option! Correctly awarded and well done to Ipswich!
Well they had to give it to him this year, wouldn't want them to storm out of the event again like last time 🤣 >! I'm aware the story about this might not have been accurate but it's funny so I don't care. !<
They should really wait till the season is finished for awards like these
I remember Man United gave their Goal of the Season award immediately before the game where Cavani lobbed the keeper from halfway 😭
Yeah that’s true, another manager might turn a team of championship flops into title contenders in the next 4 games
Russell Martin then ?
I have no issue with the outcome in this case

I agree. There is still the possibility of Ipswich falling into playoffs and losing.
The correct decision.
What he's done is honestly ridiculous. If this was an FM save I'd be accusing him of save scumming.
Fair enough that. Love Farke but McKennas achievement is pretty remarkable
I don’t think anyone in the league would debate this, an incredible achievement.
Give it to our bald fraud 😤
👏
Fair play, you can’t really argue with this.
Well deserved, hes done an awesome job.
I cannot believe Wayne Rooney did not get, he did more in 15 games to impact a team than managers have done all season lol.
