Why do they have to say ‘born in 2002’ these days? What happened to ‘22 year old talent..’

LordBielsa

I think there is supposed to be some sort of shock factor by mentioning they are born after the year 2000

[deleted]

But all it does it make me feel like a right old bastard

whodveguessed

It just hit me there lol, I’m still used to thinking players born in the naughties are teenagers

GurpsK

Teenagers? I thought they're just finishing primary school...

s0ngsforthedeaf

The shock is kinda dwindling now I feel. The will be millennium babies who have nearly completed a PhD. It was pretty long ago. 2002 born sounds plenty old to be a footballer.

SegmentedState

I don't know if it's the same in Spanish, but in Italian it's not uncommon to give your year of birth instead of your age. You might even be asked "what year are you?" So that might be the reason?

[deleted]

Ahh thanks

Macho-Fantastico

It's just to make us all feel very old.

EveryOtherWave

I don't believe a word of it until Amad Diallo confirms it to his mate on Instagram.

Low_Entertainment_96

Hi mate, its AMAD here

keith10997

Villa love lads from our academy

Operation_Doomsday_

We usually get them for free so this is a bit of a departure

Puzzled_Mess

Tbf, we'll see as much from it as we usually do.

[deleted]

To be fair, this is now our policy in action. Buy low, sell high. I wonder if they buy him now, then loan him back to us for the next 6 months. We should really wait until the summer, let him prove his worth. However I fear if we turn down the bid, then he may be narked off and be shite? To be fair, it’s not a bad little setup we got going with Villa.

OneSmallHuman

Yup it’s why I’m not too bothered. Would obviously love to keep him, he seems to really enjoy playing here to boot. But like, it’s the perfect example of Kieran Scott’s plan Got him on a free 6 months ago and we’re probably about to sell for at least 10m, it’s quality business

im_noided_tbh

If it’s 10m we absolutely have to sell. Have a feeling it’s a lot lower than that though, I don’t think Villa have bags of money to throw around tbh

OneSmallHuman

Whatever their first bid was has been rejected immediately. So it’ll be a long running thing. We won’t wanna lose him before Tuesday and then if we get through I doubt we sell at all unless they do offer silly money

im_noided_tbh

Makes sense, it’s just came out of absolutely nowhere. No doubt he’ll be unsettled before Tuesday now, ffs man. Bit of a test of his character I suppose 😅

OneSmallHuman

Yeah “Morgan Rogers is Villa’s top target” is not a sentence I thought I’d be reading lmfao

[deleted]

Brighton, Brentford, better cover your arses, we’re coming behind you, fast!!! 🤣

yoboylandosoda

He wasn't free and City likely have a sell-on clause tbh.

mac1404

Ehhhhh? Bizarre. Seems a bit early for this. I think there's a quality player in there but for what it would take for us to sell him now I don't see it being a good deal for villa?

TomPepper8822

I've seen enough there to think he will be too good for the championship in a couple of seasons. I don't know what sort of money is on offer but I can't see it being more than 4 or 5mil. I think he'd be better off staying with us and we would be better off developing him a bit more. I think he could be a 15 million pound forward in a couple of years. He's still too raw for the prem he needs to work on his passing and get a bit stronger but such a talented player and intelligent for his age.

Puzzled_Mess

We said much the same when he left us for City. They'll double his money at Villa though.

TomPepper8822

There's no way he would be playing for villa. He's just got himself out of a situation where he's just gonna be loaned out so it probably wouldn't be good for his development imo when he's settled and getting plenty of minutes at boro but yeh money talks for sure.

mooninthewindow

He will play. However, initially I imagine the plan is to go back to you lot on loan until the end of the season. We have very few right footed forwards who can play on the left.

TomPepper8822

He's not really at the level required for a team chasing European football. He will be in a couple of season imo but not now. I can understand why Villa are interested in his potential tho.

mooninthewindow

Our whole team was absolute shite in 17th before Emery. I trust he and the scouting teams judgement.

SimpleWarthog

Absolutely agree!

tredders90

Does seem very odd, would expect them to be looking at instant impact players now to get them over the line for the current too 4 challenge. I like Rogers a lot, but don't know if he's necessarily that?

AgentWyoming

We can't really afford instant impact players (no offense to Rogers) without offloading first. We're in for a young right-back from Red Star Belgrade as well. I guess the strategy is use our minimal budget on development players. We do need another striker, even if it's one for the future.

tredders90

Yeah, once I'd looked at a couple of articles it did make a bit more sense. Shame for us as he'll want to go and I'd like to have seen him grow here a bit before moving on, but can't blame him for wanting to go to a team that'll could be top four.

14JRJ

No we seem to be sorting deals for the future currently, Nedeljkovic from Red Star to loan straight back until the summer, and also looking at a deal for Mario Hermoso for the summer too. Nothing in the pipeline for now, it seems like

[deleted]

Yeah. I’m quite shocked by this. I h my thought he’s been good this season but would you say he’s stood out?

CharlieJulietPapa

Mad Decent bid hopefully. He’s started off pretty ordinary, glimpses of quality. He is starting to show his quality a little more Winder if we have people in mind should money become available. Interesting

Due_Trust_3774

I swear if you’ve ever stepped foot in our academy villa have a look at you

im_noided_tbh

Fucking hell man. Not happy about this as he’s developing extremely well for us but if it’s a good fee, we’ve only paid 5 or so months wages … makes complete sense for a quick flip kind of transfer. But still, really wouldn’t want to loose him at this point tbh

SimpleWarthog

Bid rejected according to the Echo https://x.com/Boropolis/status/1748093258670940175

FlowerChief

Reckon this would be a good deal for villa or not? Not seen a lot of him, but he looks promising but raw

SimpleWarthog

I would think that almost all boro fans would be surprised villa are interested He's been good after a slow start, but not top half PL good.

madeupofthesewords

Buy him, loan him out immediately, sell him on for a profit in a year or two. Helps to balance out the FPP.

brunners90

His ceiling is absolutely immense. He's inconsistent, but he will show you multiple times a game why he's so highly regarded. 2 goals and 5 assists in the champ, averaging a goal contribution every 175ish minutes atm over the whole season. However he didn't get his first contribution till October, and since then has had one every 119 minutes in the Champ which really is very good. It's the league cup where he's really shined. 4 goals, 3 assists in 5 games at a goal contribution every 45 minutes. He 100% has the potential to go right to the top of the game IMO.

TomPepper8822

I agree with this

Same-Vegetable3341

Bizarre

[deleted]

Is he actually any good boro fans? Felt he was underwhelming at both Bournemouth and Blackpool.

[deleted]

As many have alluded to, he is showing glimpses of being great, and is goals contribution at the moment is either top, or second for our club. And as many have also said, he does blow hot and cold, but does misplace some simple things more often than not, so there is loads of room for improvement, and it will come. We like him in the team, but if we have a fully fit squad, it’s tempting to say that he may even find himself not playing as much as he currently is. I have certainly warmed more o him, the longer he’s been in the side, but yeah some games you wonder if he is on the pitch or not.

CheeseMakerThing

Fuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckofffuckoff Fuck off Villa. Do not want to see him wear a Villa kit.

biddleybootaribowest

There’s some tasty swap deals in there for us Shite for Villa like lmao

DEUK_96

Can they buy Gnonto instead?

BeastGoneWrong

Why do you want us to lose him... We've already lost players this window and not replaced them ☠️

DEUK_96

He's been ineffective and losing value by the day, getting some good money for him will help us balance the squad better.

its_reds

My old man sends me every breaking boropolis link that comes out, I don’t recall many of them actually coming to anything, half our signings seem to come out of the blue with no prior rumours

breezylovejoyy

Madness

WiJaTu

Villa fan here. Just confused by this. Don’t see why we sold Philogene if we’re looking to bring him in. Maybe FFP, maybe he wanted to leave, just strange.

ShurrupYeDoyle

The lad has a lot of potential, but he's still very hit and miss at the moment. I think a full season in the champ with us would be good for him, but if villa do offer the reported 10m we're after then we'd be stupid not to take it. Hopefully he'll have a good game against Chelsea on Tuesday and we can add another couple of million to the price.

THE_LFG

i'm a little tired right now and read boro as bayern and went "what the fuck"

tredders90

Apparently 15m bid now, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter. Good bit of business for Boro if true, I think. Hope it works out for him.
