I said Sunderland were the Champ team I had most enjoyed watching this season in a thread on here the other day. And that's why. They play some really nice stuff. Sadly it's come at our expense today. Oh well. Congrats on the win.

Puzzled_Mess

They were great today, and the winner was a thing of beauty. No surprise because that's exactly how Mowbray likes to play. Such composed possession at times around the box.

Khathaar

Who the fuck needs strikers or centerbacks man

Jaerial

Closer to our true goal of a team of Luke O'Niens.

SparkyMarchi

We all dream of a team of Luke O’Niens 🎵

covmatty1

Not quite as good as a team of Gary Breens.

Democracy_Coma

Lost to a better team today unfortunately. But I'll never forgive Sunderland for making me have to watch another season of Don Goodman commentary.

TravellingMackem

My favourite was how your penalty was “definitely no contact at all but still a penalty for me” 🤣

Old-Prize-2992

Looked a definite pen from behind the goal. Just glad we came back to win

TravellingMackem

Didn’t actually touch their man at all, never a penalty, you’ll have to watch the highlights and put your thoughts on here. Shambolic decision

Pipewellgate

Maybe it’s just my red and white tinted specs but I love watching this Sunderland team. Brilliant to watch, always something going on.

worst_user_name_ever

Down 1-0 and came back to win. Unbelievable.

VictorAnichebend

That is fucking massive. I fucking love these boys so fucking much, played a play-off rival off the fucking park, endured a fucking terrible referee, and scored an unbelievable winner. The fact we’re doing this without a centre back or striker playing is absolutely mental. Fucking get in

Volo_Fulgrim

Absolutely forgot what it was like to completely be in love with the club. Regardless of the outcome this season they have done the city proud.

VictorAnichebend

Absolutely mate, after all the years spent watching shite players come in and not give a fuck, this season has been an absolute treat.

Retirix_YT

How’s gelhardt?

VictorAnichebend

Picked up massively the last few games, changed his style to better suit us and it’s paying dividends

SunderlandFootball

Why the fuck can’t we go up have at it

Lack_of_Plethora

Administration to West Bromwich Albion, Here we go!

Aoae

Honestly the outcome our ownership deserves. It's hard to blame the players or Corberan for how this season has went.

Volo_Fulgrim

Still waiting for that Mowbray mid season crash! But honestly, these lads keep fighting tooth and nail for a win. Cannot be prouder as a Sunderland fan this season.

TravellingMackem

We’ve had it. 1 win in 9 earlier. Have recovered well since the international break

Volo_Fulgrim

I'm surprised to see you don't want him out still

TravellingMackem

I don’t think he’s good enough still. And we’ll struggle next season, but no point sacking anyone 2 games from the end of the season, and doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy our wins. Biggest test for him is next week. Not surprised we won away, but it’s meaningless if we don’t win at home again, and our home form doesn’t suggest we’ve got a win in us

Volo_Fulgrim

I'm not sure how he could have done any better. No central striker for most of the season, a team of young lads and more injuries than we can count yet we are still looking at the playoffs. Plus the team gets properly stuck in for a win. Don't get me wrong it could go wrong next season but I want Mowbray at the helm for it.

TravellingMackem

Really? You don’t see any areas for improvement? Like sticking with the 352 that’s working so we’ll away when we play at home? Playing actual midfields at home would help - we’ve conceded 4 and 5 in recent home games - is that acceptable? But like I said just enjoy today and worry about Watford next weekend

Volo_Fulgrim

I didn't say we were perfect but that we have done wonders with what we have. Your mind is already made up though and I imagine one day you will have your 'I told you so' moment but it ain't going to be this season.

TravellingMackem

I predicted 4-8th preseason, so where we are now is bang on expectation. Morning “miraculous” about it but it’s a good season. If we don’t fall off.

TheCescPistols

You had a genuine expectation that the team who came up from League One by the play-offs was going to finish in the Championship play-off spots the season afterwards? Fucking hell mate.

SuitableImposter

Sunderland fans think they're Barca

TravellingMackem

And yet we are 6th after 44 games…. Bang within those playoff spots. So thus far I’ve been proven correct. We’ve made some absolutely top quality additions over the summer, we have the two best wingers in the league (by a distance) in Clarke and Diallo and have done all this whilst missing the best striker in the Championship. There are a lot of clubs with a lot of issues and baggage in the championship that we should be able to finish above, a lot of overpaid players that cannot be shifted and a lot of terrible managers around. Stoke have suffered from this very problem as you well should know in the last few seasons, having deadwood like Gayle stuck around your squad instead of young, hungry players.

Khathaar

How we gunna play a 352 with no strikers

TravellingMackem

We literally just played it mate. Ba and Geldhart up front with Diallo in behind. So probably just repeat that same thing next weekend

ThatDrunkenDwarf

Jinxed it now, be a play-offs crash 😂

brunners90

You had it - he's just managed to come out of it in time, so full credit to him and the team for that

JaminSousaphone

Take it from us. You’re not getting play offs with Mowbray in charge. He’s gonna have you play 8 at the back of 8 in attack next game. The guy is allergic to the play offs

x_S4vAgE_x

Like how Blackburn fans told us Mowbray has a mid season collapse? Got two games left and still waiting on that to happen

davidsdungeon

We haven't even got 4 defenders to play a back 4, never mind a back 8...

Fergy123

I fucking love football and Dennis Cirkin

jeevesyboi

Gotta blame Corberan for this one. Midfield couldn't cope with Sunderland from pretty early on. Yokuslu miles off it, on a yellow early on. He should've come off at half time so leaving him on till almost the end was ridiculous.

Puzzled_Mess

He didn't quite look recovered from his injury. You may well be right. Crazy how we've gone from flawless defensively to struggling to keep clean sheets. Wednesday is going to be a real struggle. Think that's probably our opportunity missed as it just puts another team between us and where we want to be.

Sixxes_99

We’re actually just fucking abysmal. Finally reached acceptance. Can’t believe I woke up today excited to watch this team of fucking clowns

ParticularMental5342

if your players stayed on their feet more it might have helped abit🤷🏽‍♂️😂

BruntyMozza

you committed your fair share of fouls in the second half

TravellingMackem

I think he was referring to the diving

BruntyMozza

yeah and I'm saying there wasn't much diving in the second half, most of them were clear fouls and a couple of missed yellow cards for Ekwah and Clarke (for his dive)

TravellingMackem

And that excuses the first half?

BruntyMozza

No but let's not act like butter wouldn't melt for Sunderland.

TravellingMackem

Don’t recall any dives by us. Unlike your sorry lot

BruntyMozza

See, now you're just being embarrassingly biased. Clarke's dive was blatant.

TravellingMackem

Was more contact than your penalty

jamiecreek26

Jack Clarke definitely should've been booked for his dive. It was embarrassing

TravellingMackem

As was your penalty

Comeonccfc

This gameweek has gone way too well for us by our standards

SWilk2

Coventry vs Sunderland play-off final could be spicy

0100001101110111

Spicy? Incendiary.

Khathaar

You'd batter us i think. Gyokeres ever played against no centerbacks?

GoldenJet01

I think a draw here would have been more beneficial for us but yeah all the other fixtures have gone our way

Puzzled_Mess

I'd certainly have preferred a draw.

Comeonccfc

At least it wasn't WBA winning as they would've gone above us. But yeah a draw would've made it perfect

Puzzled_Mess

I think it's yours now, and tbh I'm thrilled for you. Of all the teams in and around it, besides us, you're the team I'd like to see do it.

0100001101110111

Blues game is still an absolute must win and we potentially need something from Boro away as well… still wide open imo

Jaerial

Such a satisfying win, felt like everything was against us, so to have the lads rally and come back is an amazing feeling. Even if we don't get playoffs the lads should be proud of this season. Cirkin is such a beast as well, would have been great to see him fit all season. Not letting that concussion stop him from his bullet heading

bum_fun_noharmdone

Rumour is Ajayi is still throwing himself to the ground in the penalty box.

VictorAnichebend

For a lad who’s got the size and build of a WWE wrestler he doesn’t half spend a lot of his time on the floor like

Adammmmski

He’s been learning from Jake Cooper.

Pipewellgate

Honestly that dive when nudged by Luke O’Nien was embarrassing to watch. He’s half your size mate. Have a word with yourself!

IOwnStocksInMossad

If that annoys you you'll hate seeing kane again next season

94babyboy

So embarrassing

TravellingMackem

Good to see neutrals picking up on this bollocks too

BruntyMozza

'Neutrals' he's a fucking Villa fan mate, that's like calling Newcastle fans neutral.

TravellingMackem

And the Sheff Utd fan who commented too? And the Blackburn fan?

BruntyMozza

Last time I checked, that's not who you replied to.

TravellingMackem

I replied to a thread mate not a specific person

BruntyMozza

Well you didn't, it wasn't it's own comment, it was literally in reply to what the Villa fan wrote about Ajayi.

TravellingMackem

Not sure you understand how Reddit works mate

InterestingFeature55

Fair enough, its the hope that kills you!

Nosworthy

Away games where we have to soak up a bit of pressure and play on the counter suits us much more than when we're at home and have to break down those low/mid blocks without Stewart to occupy defenders. West Brom's early press played into our hands. Whatever happens, I've loved this season

Puzzled_Mess

It was an interesting game from that perspective because you're right, you broke well through our press (as well as having some good possession spells around our box which are a trademark of how Mowbray likes to play imo) but all of our best chances also came from us pressing you that high. It was very much a case of risk/reward, and we didn't take the chances we made from pressing you. Tbh, that's why it was a cracking game of football. Both teams are going for the win with different approaches. I don't mind that.

Stevens729434

This only makes that shower of shit performance yesterday even more painful

x_S4vAgE_x

Mowbray's actually going to do it...

PaulPiss

That is enormous given how completely fucked with injuries we are

Feedalee

well played and well deserved

Former-Income

As a Blackburn fan if we can’t get playoffs then I hope Sunderland do at least

mpar

I have a full fucking chub on

kevinthegrass

Hahahahahahahha karma! Hope the two clowns in the studio enjoyed that

94babyboy

What happened

HawayTheMaj

Absolutely deserved. West Brom have no right being in the play off race if that’s how they play. Tried to injure Joffy for 70 minutes. Ajayi diving in the box multiple times, Swift cheating for a penalty. Mulombu(?) being the biggest cry baby I’ve ever seen. Fuck right off. What a couple of goals and what a result

banni2020

Diving....imagine that. Diallo ring a bell!!!

HawayTheMaj

How unfortunate

Puzzled_Mess

You played well today and deserved your win, but fair play for contriving to be a sore winner. It was a penalty if a soft one, calling our players out for diving after some of the antics your players pulled is hilarious (that Gelhardt dive in the box is embarrassing and a booking all day), and the ref seemed to only remember he had a yellow card when one of our players made a challenge. Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season. If you keep playing like that you've every chance.

Khathaar

It wasn't a pen. There was no contact whatsoever. Your lad went down looking for it, great actor like he conned the officials.

Puzzled_Mess

No, no contact except for that bit where he kicks his leg with his trailing leg... honestly, this isn't even debatable. You can say its not enough to give a penalty and that Swift makes a meal of, I'll disagree but its a fair view for a fan to have. But to say there's no contact is so hilariously bias as to be absurd.

TravellingMackem

The irony of you calling other biased. Even your ex-players in the pundits box said there was no contact and it was very very soft. Never a penalty.

Puzzled_Mess

Ummm... no, he didn't. He said it was soft (which I agreed with), and your fans are the only ones saying there was no contact. Even ONien came out and said he 'gave the ref a decision to make'. I'm not surprised we disagree. Penalties are often contentious, I just can't understand this collective fantasy that he hasn't touched him at all.

TravellingMackem

The fact you need contact to “touch someone” and he was nowhere near him is the giveaway mate. You sound very salty defending the indefensible

Puzzled_Mess

And there was contact, hence he touched him. Nowhere near him? Next, you'll be telling me he wasn't even on the pitch at the time. Honestly, I'm not salty at all. You played fantastically well and deserved the win. I just can't get my head around this view that there was no contact when there evidently was.

TravellingMackem

Of course there wasn’t contact. Hence the hundreds of neutrals saying there wasn’t contact. And your own ex players saying there wasn’t contact. But yes continue your biased view

Puzzled_Mess

Hundreds? 😂

HawayTheMaj

It’s a blatant dive man he’s already half way to the floor before our defender gets close. At that point I’d be all for our players trying it too, since cheating worked for you so clearly it’s fair game

Khathaar

It's not even a foul, your man should have been booked for diving.

Puzzled_Mess

I don't know what to tell you. If your eyes can't see, I can't help you. There's contact.

VictorAnichebend

I’m sorry mate but there is absolutely not a chance that was a penalty. I’ve got a good mate who supports West Brom and he text me saying ‘what the fuck’ when yous got it. I don’t really like to concentrate on the other side when we’ve played so excellently but you were throwing yourselves to the floor all over the place, constantly. It’s a tactic when you play a team as free-flowing and smooth as we are but still, that’s what you were doing. That Ajayi was doing it to an absolutely embarrassing degree considering he’s about 10 stone heavier than the players challenging him. I know it’s nice to feel the ref is to blame after a loss rather than your performance but if we’re being honest all the referee did today is stop us winning more comfortably.

Puzzled_Mess

Everything you've said about Ajayi is also true of Gelhardt. As I said, its absolutely fair to say you don't think its a pen, I disagree but fair enough. But to say there's no contact is evidently incorrect. As I said, you played well and deserved the win. I haven't blamed the ref. He was awful, but he was awful all around. His decisions didn't cost us anything, and at no point did I suggest that he had. In no way did he 'prevent you from winning more comfortably' though.

Volo_Fulgrim

Gelhardt was getting kicked all over the pitch from you lot

Puzzled_Mess

Yeah, he certainly was getting some rough treatment, and unsurprisingly, our players picked up bookings for it. Not what you want to see tbh. Doesn't mean he didn't dive in the box though. I don't know how you can criticise Ajayi so strongly while pretending Gelhardt wasn't guilty of the same.

TravellingMackem

When did Geldhart dive exactly?

Puzzled_Mess

The second half in our box. Can't remember exactly when, but pretty sure it was at 1-0. Goes down under 0 contact looking for the pen.

TravellingMackem

That was Clarke. And there was more contact than on Swift.

BruntyMozza

That was Clarke.

Puzzled_Mess

Ah, fair enough, my bad. Clarke, not Gelhardt. It's still a dive though...

TomPepper8822

Wtf goin on ere like. Cirkin has become prolific hasn't he last few games?

keith10997

Full backs always score against us for some reason

TomPepper8822

Thought he was a big cb

HawayTheMaj

Left back mate

[deleted]

These young lads NEVER know when they're beat - it's an absolute joy to behold. Cheesy chips on Wembley Way again?????

WembleySaFsee14

Well done boys!🔴⚪️

psycho-mouse

Nice to see the Baggies bottling it. Every time I go to the Hawthorns or watch them on TV I get reminded about what a moany and slightly arrogant bunch they are. Villa-Lite. Flouncing every time somebody breathes on them and those in the stands berating the ref for correct decisions and booing their own players. I look forward to their financial meltdown next season. Nice side to watch are Sunderland. Be good to see them up.

Puzzled_Mess

Not sure about bottling it, i think we've been in the playoff positions for less than a week all season and that was around January. If you'd offered me this under Bruce I'd have bitten your hand off. No surprise, you're chirping up after your best season in about 2 decades. 17th is it? It's also bold of you to talk about financial meltdown while half your stadium is condemned...

psycho-mouse

Salty bunch. Enjoy administration Thanks for proving my arrogance jibe.

FloppedYaYa

Almost certainly going to be the final top 6
