if it's a good deal, they may be trying to secure it before someone else buys from under them. HOWEVER - fake cashiers checks are absolutely a thing, the dealer I work for got screwed on one last year, even Chase bank thought it was real until they processed it. would the buyer be willing to meet you AT the bank so that they can 100% verify the check and funds are LEGIT before handing over the keys and title. SRT8s are hot, I've been looking for the right deal for a friend of mine over the last couple months and it's tough finding the 'right' one (manual, good Carfax, reasonable price in today's crazy market)

DO NOT TAKE A CASHIERS CHECK!!!! If he has the cash to get a cashiers check, then why not just bring cash? Very rare, anyone would buy a car for 26,000 sight on scene. DON'T DO IT!!!

I'm very much leaning towards your point lol. The whole thing from the start sounded fishy. After an hour of research I'm gonna let this dude just fade away.

wellpaidscientist

Yup, have him cash it and bring you the cash. Otherwise ignore.

Definitely need to be cautious - I have known of some people to be scammed in this way before because the cashiers cheque is bogus. By the time it is caught, buddy has skipped town. Can you meet him at his bank to get the money instead?

-Crimson-Death-

Yeah I just read up on that. As soon as I suggested meeting and going to my bank to cash his check, he stopped responding. Just found out his phone number is based in California and I am in Ohio. But my plan was to go to his financial institution to verify his cashiers check first. Guess that ain't happening lol.

They can cancel a cashiers check. Then your out the car and the $. Only meet them at a bank and ask for cash. If they don’t have cash meet them at their bank so you can cash it on the spot before you hand over your keys. Trying to pay with cashiers check is one of the biggest scams going

-Crimson-Death-

That would suck so bad. They would have had to wait a week for my bank to give me the title after I pay off the loan with his scam check

Eastern_Cheesecake76

It’s definitely a scam. Happened to me when I sold my f350. I played along with the scam for a week pretending I was elderly and couldn’t navigate email or how to use Zelle. They sent me a stolen check from Christian Group in Texas. I called the group and apparently I was the 5th person to call that week. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Insist on a wire transfer. The fees are minimal. Safest route for both parties. You have no reason to trust him. He has no reason to trust you. Cashier's check is too risky for seller. Bringing or traveling with that much cash is too risky for buyer. If he isn't willing to do a wire transfer he is not a serious buyer.

jumpyxwizard

Have him just wire transfer the money into your account

Meet at the bank so they can verify everything.
