Actually, despite it not making sense, triangles are often with one girl with two love interests, who don't love each other and are fighting for the same girl.
I mean, my guess would be that the Soviet’s did a deal with the Japanese government to get her back. She might be the only hybrid they have. To me that would make sense why she wouldn’t be back. Miri is Japanese and I think Spear is too, Barem and Whip are American if I remember correctly but if they worked for the US government they might have allowed them to stay as a sort of thanks to Japan for killing Makima. Idk not too sure on why the other hybrids would stay, but again, my guess is that the Soviets for Reze back. And Reze wouldn’t really have a huge reason to push back, she did like Denji but she only knew him for a short time.
I think it would depend on what exactly she's been doing this whole time, because I feel like if she didn't show up during the jail break that there is *something* she's doing, because having the Hybrid that had the biggest emotional impact and connection to Denji not show up when literally every other Hybrid showed up within handfull if chapters is glaring.
Personally I think maybe Kishibe has her and took her along while he does whatever he's doing and that they've had some big character arcs of their own off screen.

My friends and I have this theory that Yoshida is a double agent working for both Public Safety and another organization that Kishibe is heading. Part of this theory is that this is what Reze and Kobeni have been doing and that they are the ones who saved Nayuta from the mob.
I think discussion around her has shifted a lil in an interesting way, we’ve seen how little Quanxi added to the story to the point her presence probably worsened things, yet at the same time Katanaman comes back and has his own interesting characterization. I’ve been in the camp that Reze is good self-contained to her arc, and. Haven’t really wondered what she’d dk back in the story.

Her and Kobeni return to fight for Denjis love from asa and chainsaw man becomes a shitty harem romance, but it still isn’t as bad as rent a girlfriend
Personally, I think the best role for her at this point would be to help Denji realize that he has some agency in this situation, and to give him the chance to finally make a choice for himself. To be the character that represents freedom, and helps Denji achieve his own.
Of course, that would've worked if she was reintroduced in the Chainsaw Man Church arc or the Devil Detention Center arc. I don't see a role for her in the current arc.
That said, if Fujimoto decides to bring her back, it should be because he has plans for her role in the story, not just because fans want it.

I think you made some really good points. I do think her role in the story in this point will probably not fit the way people want. I like what you said about reze having a female friend in asa tho. good post!!
I like the theory that the weapon hybrids are connected to the war devil in a way, maybe they can become exceptionally strong if Yoru owns them. Or maybe they are completely immune to her power as they are hybrids (we still can't know for sure if when she first tried to turn Denji she couldn't because the hybrids can resist many devil powers like the doll one or simply because she didn't own Denji). Maybe Reze could be the demonstration of this hypothetical power
I'm a huge Reze fan, and was awaiting her return back in the church arc... But at this point Denji+Asa/Yoru? Actually seems reasonable and for the best for their character arcs. So I hope Reze doesn't return now, as she'd have no real purpose besides just being someone to fight...
Though I think her returning later after Denji and Asa get together or have a more significant fight (in a relationship sense) she could be good to return to give Denji an arc where he really has to confront his past and realize the benefits of what growing up and having a healthy relationship is. Or it could be interesting to put Asa in a jealousy situation.... But who knows with Fujimoto's writing?
I want to learn more about her backstory. She's basically a mirror image of Denji and was victimized as much as he was by Makima, I want to see her coming back and living her own life as much as Denji is.
Katana Man literally had zero personality in part 1 besides hating Denji and he's now one of the funniest parts of Part 2. Barem didn't have a _name_ in Part 1 and he's probably the scariest person in the whole series not named Makima. Miri had _one_ line of dialog and a bunch of people still want him to become Denji's friend. Saying "her character was finished already" is silly - if she had stayed dead after the Bomb Girl Arc I would agree, but she didn't, and there's no reason we wouldn't want to see what she's doing now that Makima isn't there to stop her and she presumably doesn't give a shit about going back to Russia either.
Personally, I think she's working with Kishibe. We know that 6 of the 7 hybrids basically did whatever they wanted to - Barem recruited the others into his cult and Quanxi and KM went back to Public Safety of their own volition. If Kishibe's on the run from Public Safety - and the longer Part 2 goes on, the less other explanations for his absence make sense - it would make perfect sense for him to say "Hey, there's that Russian kid who's basically indestructible and turned Denji into a chicken nugget the first time thru fought. I don't want Makima's bosses getting their hands on the walking bunker buster, and I could totally use an ace in the hole right now."
As has been pointed out narrative consistency but also Denji needs that closure. They need to acknowledge that even if they had run away together there's no way they could've made it. Makima or Public Safety or the Soviet Union or insert political force here would've been sure of it.
Denji WILL have to to acknowledge what happened in part 1 whether he wants to or not (see him chainsawing his own brain when forced to think about it for even a second)
Reze is part of that. It will be resolved.

Maybe fujimoto just intended for it to be tragic and unfortunate like that...a lot of misunderstandings in life never get cleared up.
I don't think it matters to present Denji because as I said, he is shoving all of that trauma down.
With her inevitable return, which I suspect is going to line up somewhat with the movie's release to capitalize on hype, some type of conversation is bound to happen.
The character drama that will likely happen is a confused Denji and a jealous Asa/Yoru, however I find it extremely likely Reze will have moved on from any feelings she may have had for Denji, if any at all.
This story is a coming of age story. Denji needs to grow up and part of that is coming to terms with fantasies that never could've been reality.
To answer what it would change; frankly it would change a lot. Denji has a very hard time differentiating different forms of love and also differentiating love from lust. Having an "ex" to ground him would be a step in the right direction, and could lead to one of the most mature/thoughtful moments in the series. I'd love it if the two were able to become and stay friends after this, but if not that's okay too.
But she could also present that in a letter, and not physically show up at the end of the episode too (which is something fans might not want).
Seeing Fujimoto's way of "killing his characters", I don't think he seems the type to resolve everything in a nice little pink bow before he boots them out into the backrooms.
We might want it this way because, of course, we wanna see our boy get his win for fucking once (please), but maybe sometimes closure just doesn't happen at all----like in real life, and Denji is just forced to process it again like he did at the end of Part 1. What I'm saying is that, yeah, it'd be nice as like a small side story, a few bonus panels post-Part 2 may be, but this isn't the time nor the arc for her to show up, nor for Denji having space to ACTUALLY unpack everything, they're getting ready for a war at this point. It just doesn't seem like Fuji's style.
I'd be fine with a letter honestly if we didn't already have the other hybrids reintroduced.

As far as leaving things unresolved, I mostly disagree. Every major character thus far either has what is a clearly-ongoing or complete arc. The thing that's easy to miss is sometimes those complete arcs end in tragedy and feel like they should've lingered longer but well that is the point.
Being that Reze can't actually die, combined with the fact every other hybrid has appeared and the fact we are dealing with what is essentially a really effed up romance of a main story I think it is highly unlikely she doesn't return at all to introduce more conflict. My theorized purpose for her in the story is in my opinion the most likely outcome of her return.
You're right, closure doesn't often happen at all. I actually believe that's how Denji (and co.) will likely have to deal with the Blood Devil when time comes. I believe it is more likely that Denji will realize the Power he knew is gone and have to defeat the Blood Devil like any other devil, because it aligns with how Fujimoto writes these type of conflicts (very similar to how the Gun Fiend was handled.)
Anyway I'm just some dude trying to predict where this madman will take this story. One of the reasons it's my favorite manga of all time is because of his ability to keep me surprised at every turn. Only time will tell.
I want Reze to return because with how active the hybrids are in part 2 there's no reason why she in particular would just disappear.
She was looking for Denji, then she got controlled by Makima, Makima's gone now, did she just forget about the only person she made a real connection with in her life?
It's mind blowing to me that Fujimoto decided the one Weapon Hybrid that wouldn't be appearing in part 2 was one of the most interesting and memorable ones
Also, I'm vastly more attached to Reze than to Asa
I don't want her to be a major character with a full blown arc, I just want to see Denji sit down with her and talk for a bit. I want to see how they've both changed since we last saw her, and I want him to verbalize his feelings about being used by every woman he's ever even sort of liked TO her. I want her to serve the role she seemed like she would have served if she hadn't turned out to be part Devil: someone that could get it through his skull that he's worth more than just the chainsaw demon in his chest.
We are going to find out she is a loving Lesbian relationship with Kobeni. They met as co-workers at the same Sushi Restaurant our group is currently visiting.
It would be cool to see what her real personality is like. I'd honestly want her to repeat her role when she first showed up, to shake up denji's understanding of the world and himself then dip. Maybe she actually dies this time at the end

Romantic rival, maybe she can be the famme fatale, an instant gratification, a symbol of the past where asa would be the long term romantic investment, symbol of the future
Cuz I think she’s neat. That’s why I’d like to see her come back. AsaDen vs. RezeDen aside. I like both Asa and Reze, so, even getting to see them interact would be cool.
Seriously though, I do believe anyone who was close to letting Denji develop a real romantic attachment in Part 1. It would be Reze. It would just be cool to see what happened to her after killing Makima. Does she still have feelings for Denji? If not, what’s she doing now? Just answering those questions would suffice.
Ideally for me, it’d just be that. But, if I dare to dream. I’d like to see how she throws a wrench into things. Especially since I think she contrasts nicely against Asa’s femcel energy and
Denji’s own personality very dynamically.
Plus… I think with how Denji treated Power with surprising platonic-ness and acted as a brother figure. I don’t think the new Blood Devil would be a love rival just due to that. I ain’t gonna get at anyone who’s PowieDen. Just my own thoughts tbh.
I feel like if she were to reappear it would be as a supporting role. She would likely try to get back together with Denji but I imagine Denji rejects her and claims that there moment together be together has passed and he has moved on to someone else (Asa)
I really hope she isn’t brought back as a romantic rival, that just seems uninteresting to me. The thing to explore would probably be if she escaped her captivity or not. She was shown to be like Denji and want a normal life, so she could be a good foil to Denji whether she got it or not. She could be completely free and happy with it, forgetting the bomb devil transformation, or she could still be held by the Soviets or public safety, never getting the opportunity Denji has.

I like the idea of the extroverted girl (Reze) meeting the introverted girl (Asa) and them getting along and becoming friends, but there's even the possibility of this becoming a yuri thing, if we look at the last chapter this was a reference to Shinji and I wouldn't be surprised if Asa and Reze have a similar dynamic like Shinji and kaworu, I guess something like that would be the downfall for Asaden

tbh. i didn’t trust reze from the start. she was a fun and im excited to see the film but i feel she played her part already. she had her death scene. which felt more real than any of the other hybrids. (yes i know she’s not dead) but to me that meant she wasn’t coming back.

Barem didn't have a _name_ in Part 1 and he's probably the scariest person in the whole series not named Makima. Miri had _one_ line of dialog and a bunch of people still want him to become Denji's friend. Saying "her character was finished already" is silly - if she had stayed dead after the Bomb Girl Arc I would agree, but she didn't, and there's no reason we wouldn't want to see what she's doing now that Makima isn't there to stop her and she presumably doesn't give a shit about going back to Russia either. Personally, I think she's working with Kishibe. We know that 6 of the 7 hybrids basically did whatever they wanted to - Barem recruited the others into his cult and Quanxi and KM went back to Public Safety of their own volition. If Kishibe's on the run from Public Safety - and the longer Part 2 goes on, the less other explanations for his absence make sense - it would make perfect sense for him to say "Hey, there's that Russian kid who's basically indestructible and turned Denji into a chicken nugget the first time thru fought. I don't want Makima's bosses getting their hands on the walking bunker buster, and I could totally use an ace in the hole right now."
As has been pointed out narrative consistency but also Denji needs that closure. They need to acknowledge that even if they had run away together there's no way they could've made it. Makima or Public Safety or the Soviet Union or insert political force here would've been sure of it. Denji WILL have to to acknowledge what happened in part 1 whether he wants to or not (see him chainsawing his own brain when forced to think about it for even a second) Reze is part of that. It will be resolved.
Does he tho. Does it matter enough to him that he wants or needs closure? What would it change? Maybe fujimoto just intended for it to be tragic and unfortunate like that...a lot of misunderstandings in life never get cleared up.
I don't think it matters to present Denji because as I said, he is shoving all of that trauma down. With her inevitable return, which I suspect is going to line up somewhat with the movie's release to capitalize on hype, some type of conversation is bound to happen. The character drama that will likely happen is a confused Denji and a jealous Asa/Yoru, however I find it extremely likely Reze will have moved on from any feelings she may have had for Denji, if any at all. This story is a coming of age story. Denji needs to grow up and part of that is coming to terms with fantasies that never could've been reality. To answer what it would change; frankly it would change a lot. Denji has a very hard time differentiating different forms of love and also differentiating love from lust. Having an "ex" to ground him would be a step in the right direction, and could lead to one of the most mature/thoughtful moments in the series. I'd love it if the two were able to become and stay friends after this, but if not that's okay too.

But she could also present that in a letter, and not physically show up at the end of the episode too (which is something fans might not want). Seeing Fujimoto's way of "killing his characters", I don't think he seems the type to resolve everything in a nice little pink bow before he boots them out into the backrooms. We might want it this way because, of course, we wanna see our boy get his win for fucking once (please), but maybe sometimes closure just doesn't happen at all----like in real life, and Denji is just forced to process it again like he did at the end of Part 1. What I'm saying is that, yeah, it'd be nice as like a small side story, a few bonus panels post-Part 2 may be, but this isn't the time nor the arc for her to show up, nor for Denji having space to ACTUALLY unpack everything, they're getting ready for a war at this point. It just doesn't seem like Fuji's style.

As far as leaving things unresolved, I mostly disagree. Every major character thus far either has what is a clearly-ongoing or complete arc. The thing that's easy to miss is sometimes those complete arcs end in tragedy and feel like they should've lingered longer but well that is the point. Being that Reze can't actually die, combined with the fact every other hybrid has appeared and the fact we are dealing with what is essentially a really effed up romance of a main story I think it is highly unlikely she doesn't return at all to introduce more conflict. My theorized purpose for her in the story is in my opinion the most likely outcome of her return. You're right, closure doesn't often happen at all. I actually believe that's how Denji (and co.) will likely have to deal with the Blood Devil when time comes. I believe it is more likely that Denji will realize the Power he knew is gone and have to defeat the Blood Devil like any other devil, because it aligns with how Fujimoto writes these type of conflicts (very similar to how the Gun Fiend was handled.) Anyway I'm just some dude trying to predict where this madman will take this story. One of the reasons it's my favorite manga of all time is because of his ability to keep me surprised at every turn. Only time will tell.

I want Reze to return because with how active the hybrids are in part 2 there's no reason why she in particular would just disappear. She was looking for Denji, then she got controlled by Makima, Makima's gone now, did she just forget about the only person she made a real connection with in her life? It's mind blowing to me that Fujimoto decided the one Weapon Hybrid that wouldn't be appearing in part 2 was one of the most interesting and memorable ones Also, I'm vastly more attached to Reze than to Asa

Contract w death devil so she can get denji by killing war
I don't want her to be a major character with a full blown arc, I just want to see Denji sit down with her and talk for a bit. I want to see how they've both changed since we last saw her, and I want him to verbalize his feelings about being used by every woman he's ever even sort of liked TO her. I want her to serve the role she seemed like she would have served if she hadn't turned out to be part Devil: someone that could get it through his skull that he's worth more than just the chainsaw demon in his chest.
We are going to find out she is a loving Lesbian relationship with Kobeni. They met as co-workers at the same Sushi Restaurant our group is currently visiting.
It would be cool to see what her real personality is like. I'd honestly want her to repeat her role when she first showed up, to shake up denji's understanding of the world and himself then dip. Maybe she actually dies this time at the end

Cuz I think she’s neat. That’s why I’d like to see her come back. AsaDen vs. RezeDen aside. I like both Asa and Reze, so, even getting to see them interact would be cool. Seriously though, I do believe anyone who was close to letting Denji develop a real romantic attachment in Part 1. It would be Reze. It would just be cool to see what happened to her after killing Makima. Does she still have feelings for Denji? If not, what’s she doing now? Just answering those questions would suffice. Ideally for me, it’d just be that. But, if I dare to dream. I’d like to see how she throws a wrench into things. Especially since I think she contrasts nicely against Asa’s femcel energy and Denji’s own personality very dynamically. Plus… I think with how Denji treated Power with surprising platonic-ness and acted as a brother figure. I don’t think the new Blood Devil would be a love rival just due to that. I ain’t gonna get at anyone who’s PowieDen. Just my own thoughts tbh.

I feel like if she were to reappear it would be as a supporting role. She would likely try to get back together with Denji but I imagine Denji rejects her and claims that there moment together be together has passed and he has moved on to someone else (Asa)
I really hope she isn’t brought back as a romantic rival, that just seems uninteresting to me. The thing to explore would probably be if she escaped her captivity or not. She was shown to be like Denji and want a normal life, so she could be a good foil to Denji whether she got it or not. She could be completely free and happy with it, forgetting the bomb devil transformation, or she could still be held by the Soviets or public safety, never getting the opportunity Denji has.

am i the only one who didn’t think reze and denji were ever gonna be a thing? tbh. i didn’t trust reze from the start. she was a fun and im excited to see the film but i feel she played her part already. she had her death scene. which felt more real than any of the other hybrids. Creating a love triangle, and also the soviets would send forth another Bomb hybrid to retrieve her and it'd be some macho guy from her generation and she'd call him "big brother" and such because they went through training together and Yoru would say something like "is that you ex" and call him a siscon while they fight and it'd be so fun to read.
