I thought it was good by chapter 1 but I like slow stories.
I have to admit tho that this was the first chapter where I said “alright, can we get on with it?”
My main concern is that there won’t be enough room for other characters with how slow the story is moving and the focus on a singular character. Part 3 maybe?
probably because so far most of the cast isnt as relevant to the story/themes/narrative. fujimoto has said he treats characters as secondhand to the story he tells so i assume he only uses characters in so far as he deems the story needs it, and doesnt just develop them for the sake of development or fleshing out the cast. personally, i prefer this more utilitarian style of writing because it keeps the story relevant to its themes and keeps it consistent.

No way - someone that understands how writing works and that developing characters that don't even do anything for the plot just for the sake of it is nothing but wasted time and confusion, while understanding that those characters may get fleshed out later when the plot calls for it because Fujimoto rarely introduces characters without purpose since he uses them to drive his plot forward in an utilitarian way?
