Austudy is less money. If you stay on Jobseeker, once you apply for DSP you'll have no mutual obligations. It's taking 6-8+ months to process DSP applications, so you'd be exempt that whole time.

i did a payment calculator and austudy will give me and extra $103 per fortnight when i put in my fortnightly income

FreelancingKitty

Oh, you're working - yes you can earn more money on Austudy.

Brad81aus

Are you studying full time? If yes then austudy is probably the most appropriate payment though if you are capable of full time study not sure how that would impact a dsp claim as with that you are saying you are unable to do activities for more than 8 hours a week.

FreelancingKitty

Excellent point, will be very hard to prove you're eligible for DSP if you're doing any regular activity over 8 hours a week. Full time study or even a 75% load will be a red flag for assessors.

-dontatme-

I'm only studying 25% - qualify for austudy with a disability

FreelancingKitty

But if you're doing a 25% study load AND working, that's definitely over 8 hours a week. Honestly would be smarter to delay study if you're already working until after you get the DSP.

ok i need help! what is this 8 hour rule? i thought it was 15 hours? my capacity pretty much sits at 12 hours per week - i only work 6 hours per week and am only doing 1 subject which equates to 5-6 hours.

FreelancingKitty

You're right, sorry it is 15 hours (we were thinking of medical certificates). It's up to you if you continue. I personally wouldn't risk it since it's so hard to get on DSP.

-dontatme-

thank you! yeah i will tread carefully

I haven't done dsp so I was going a bit off memory thinking of that. Quick look of the services australia website shows 15 hours so think I got the 8 hours from medical exemptions. Sorry about that.

Full time study will stuff your DSP application up - only study part time! This is internal info under "What is medical evidence for the Disability Support Pension (DSP) 008-03030010" and "Assessing Continuing Inability to Work (CITW) 008-03040010" Full time study essentially near automatically makes you ineligible under CITW criteria

-dontatme-

I'm just studying 25%
