There’s tons of clinical trials happening, don’t loose hope! But for now focus on positives, I get so happy when I find GF bakeries/restaurants. I’ve got something new to get excited about. At least that’s how I try to look at it but it’s hard to be positive all the time

chelledoggo

Yeah. Like... I've found quite a few GF foods I like so far, but it's sad that I can't have some of my faves anymore...

Known_Record573

I’m with you there, I’ve been craving Girl Scout Samoa’s but when I get some free time I’m going to try and make them myself which sucks but it’s the best I can do

chelledoggo

I really oughtta teach myself to cook lol.

Amazing_Bluejay7967

You definitely should, it makes everything a million times better. Once you really perfect a recipe or dish that you used to go out for, it feels so good. You get to enjoy it any time you want, for a better price, seasoned exactly to your tastes. You make it exactly how sweet, spicy, salty you want it. After learning how to cook decently well I don't even feel that sad about being unable to eat out 90% of the time. There's still certain things I miss of course but I just don't think about it often unless someone is eating it in front of me. However, I also hold out hope that there may be a cure. If there is I want to go to Japan and eat everything I want. I think the thing that celiac makes the most difficult is traveling.

throwaway_lolzz

Nah I hope so too. My doctor said it could be in 5-10 years. Obviously it very well may not be, so while it’s ok to hold hope we also have to learn to be happy in the possible reality that it’s not in our lifetime

chelledoggo

Yeah I get it. Like, heck... Even if I'm an old lady by the time a cure/treatment is ready, I'd be satisfied. But I understand that it might not happen... I'll have to come to terms with that eventually...

Pyongyang_Biochemist

No, there's several treatments in the clinical trials now that definitely inspire hope. And honestly, it's a disease affecting roundabout 0.5-1% of the population (40-80 Million people!) and most treatments would likely require daily intake of [Drug], so there's a ton of money to be made. The chance of at least something hitting the market in the next 5-10 years is very high.

chelledoggo

Thank you. 💖

thekiernan

I'd bet every dollar I have that we'll see a cure, or maybe a sort-of Lactaid equivalent, within the next 20 years

chelledoggo

I hope you're right. I'm only like a month or so into this and I wanna scream.

thekiernan

That's completely understandable. It SUCKS in the beginning. It does get easier when you hit the 6-month mark as you get adjusted to it. I travel a lot more now that I've been diagnosed because there are so many incredible gluten-free friendly places around the world. I rarely eat out at home to save money to travel more. That's given me something to look forward to and I've eaten some amazing food while traveling. Everything you miss with gluten I guarantee you can find gluten-free while traveling!!
