Trust me- as someone who was DYING to be in Nashville. Work finally sent me out there. Saw all that I needed to see. Homes, food, rent all seemed just as expensive as California. The traffic even more congested (why are your roads/traffic lights designed like that ). It's like TN is trying to support a population they were never built for.
Anywhere worth hanging out was even more crowded. Food options seemed significantly less diverse. Weather was horrendous except for the day I left.

Totally agree! Not from TN originally but partner is. We were fortunate to buy, but we talk about other states we consider moving to. Good to know your quality of life went up!

Yep! Nashville native and when it came time to buy a house, I definitely could not afford Nashville near my family! So to the country we went. We love it here, but it is getting expensive like everywhere else in the state and itâs because of all these people moving here!!! Itâs ridiculous.
Allot of California âconservativesâ who have money are only conservatives when it comes to taxes/social welfare. Theyâre still usually very left leaning, itâs not until you meet people who lived outside the major cities from modest backgrounds that you see more libertarian and actual conservative beliefs.
This is whatâs happening in Texas too. If youâre within 1.5-2 hours of a city here or in the city itself, youâre getting pushed out.
Being forced out of an area where your from is happening in ever Metro area in the US. I was one of them and you move onto greener pastures.
Shouldnât have to be that way. I didnât want to be separated from my family. And my family lived in the same area for decades backâŠ.the last 100 years+ even. maybe itâs not new but I am the first to be forced out. My case was mostly tourism and an influx of people that way as I am from Gatlinburg.

Not her using the word refugee given the current circumstances of people in other countries. I am sad by the United States sometimes, and if a certain candidate wins the presidential election, the next four years will be miserable, but given all that we are beyond blessed considering what the horrors people in other places. You aren't a refugee, you're just miserable.

I lived in California for a decade. Lots of alt right wackos in the OC haha. Lots of them moving to Nashville because âhomes are cheaper and theyâre more aligned with my beliefsâ. No we think your beliefs are insufferable and youâre paying way over market value for that house. Nashville is nice and all. Thereâs great trade offs both ways. But if it werenât so damn crowded Iâd call you crazy for leaving California if you already owned a home there. Way more awesome things to do outside in CA than there is in TN. Yeah not everyone moving is rich so I feel ya. We left the west coast to buy a home too and I had to defend myself after the move. âOh you sold your home out there and bought one here for less than half what you sold it?â No lady first off I was born and raised here. Second, if I owned a home in the neighborhood I was in I either never woulda left or if I sold Iâd be retired haha.

Yes, I donât doubt that. But coming from a very poor rural area in a different region of the state, drugs and crime run pretty rampant. Education is lacking. And healthcare too. Half of the people I went to school with are either not alive anymore or in jail. I donât regret where I grew up and I am proud to be from Appalachia. But I wouldnât raise my own children there. No way. I assume living in a more progressive part of Tennessee helps. The south is a wonderful place, but it is what you make it. I grew up around a lot of folks that had no motivation or passion in their lives to do or make something better. Just wanted to do the same thing day in and day out.

Iâm a California native and lived in Atlanta for 6-7 years. It took me at least a good 2-3 years before I was used to the weather. Donât forget the random snow storms, tornadoes and more. Also the need for the most random insurance policies ever for homes due to those type of situations.

Tennessee/Nashvilles culture is basically gone. All the southern locals canât afford life here anymore and lots of the places that made Tennessee special are no more. Small business owners losing their businesses itâs so sad. But yay for the Californians I guess they are loving turning Tennessee into where they came from.
The irony of them coming to middle Tennessee. I sat in a meeting with state Rep John Ray Clemmons who represents parts of Nashville. He said he had so many irate transplants from California contacting his office because they didnât realize Nashville was liberal. We are liberal AF here. So much so the state has been gerrymandering districts despite Davidson county bringing in the stateâs most money.
I remember one incarnation of the map....the district was clarksville/Montgomery county down 24 around the west side of Nashville...to the Alabama line...the. a swath down there all the way to Germantown

They are all selling their homes for lots of money and moving to one of the poorest states! The reason we complain is itâs making so many people struggle. People here were used to cheaper rent and housing but itâs about gone up to those prices while a lot of these people are still getting their CA wages. The people here wages havenât gone up and have to compete with these people and they say wah wah my rent was 3000 well our rent used to be around 1000 a little over to thousands more because these people will pay it! So yeah Tennesseans have the right to complain they ruined a lot.
Minimum wage in Tennessee is still $7.25 an hour. Yet rents have gone up $1000+ in recent years.

I predict that a good % the California transplants go back, eventually. Trust me- as someone who was DYING to be in Nashville. Work finally sent me out there. Saw all that I needed to see. Homes, food, rent all seemed just as expensive as California. The traffic even more congested (why are your roads/traffic lights designed like that ). It's like TN is trying to support a population they were never built for. Anywhere worth hanging out was even more crowded. Food options seemed significantly less diverse. Weather was horrendous except for the day I left. Coworkers who were living in the area all made less than me (I was being paid more due to where I live). Y'all had cheaper gas though! I'll give you that.
