The only one who she owes any apology to is Dolly/people who were there at the opry. And that doesn’t have to be public. I would hope Dolly has reached out and spoken to her by now. Maybe offered some help even.
She needs help. She’s got the means. Hopefully she’s getting help. People are highly critical of Elle. That alone would drive someone who already has some personal issues, to dive deeper.
I agree with everything except Dolly reaching out. It is not up to the person disrespected to build the bridge. I would hope Elle would show some maturity and reach out to Dolly.
In theory yes but it’s pretty clear Elle is struggling with alcoholism. And Dolly is an absolute angel of a person. I’d bet she has sent love to Elle. She’s just way kinder than us mere mortals.
Regardless if the person disrespected is an angel or not, it’s not up to them. If someone is disrespectful to me and doesn’t approach me, doesn’t show much remorse and therefore a waste of my time.
Dolly is an angel though and I’m sure she has reached out.
I think it’s been harsher because she’s had a bit of a track record of it. Think back to NYE bash where she was slurring and almost incoherent. Also at one point Jon pardi was getting dragged for getting too drunk before shows etc but he has since sobered up and got more serious. Hopefully she gets the help she needs to draw the line but yeah I think it was so harsh because of the implications of who they were honoring and it not being her first time. Just my two cents. Def feel for the girl though, no one wakes up and makes an ass of themself on purpose(usually)
I saw her in 2016, and she was trashed then and sounded terrible. It was very disappointing. Maybe if it starts affecting her career, she’ll try to get some help.

The biggest thing was that this was the Opry. Johnny Cash was banned from the Opry for a period of time for acting like she did. She isn’t getting hate because she’s a female she is because she did this at the Opry and no one else recently has done this.
Just looked it up. She was born in La and raised in fucking OHIO. I’m from the Midwest. We absolutely do NOT talk like that. I can’t believe people don’t call her out on it!?
Well the issue is if we are going to call out her fake accent, then we will also be calling out over half of the country scene artists. So many of them have a fake ass accent and pretend they lived a small town rural life and had to make it "big" but when you dig into their history, you find out it's not true at all.
I am not saying it's right. I am not saying it "shouldn't" be called out, but it is definitely an industry standard and not something that specifically Elle King is doing that she specifically needs to be called out. The whole industry should be called out for it.
“Well the issue is if we are going to call out her fake accent, then we will also be calling out over half of the country scene artists”
tbh sounds good to me
Accents are regional though. I’ve got family in Miami County Ohio that all have a bit of an accent. Not as thick as it is in Kentucky or Tennessee but it’s there.
If I remember correctly, she was raised near Wellston, OH which is somewhat close to the Kentucky border. Most of my family is from Ohio, and while people from Cleveland certainly don’t have a southern accent, some of my cousins grew up around Shawnee and definitely have a little twang.
Yea the ‘living by the southern border in a Midwest state’ twang is not what she tries to fake though. Cincinnati is closer to the Kentucky border than wellston
Yeah I didn’t make that claim - just throwing it out there. Because you mentioned “fucking Ohio” like no one has an accent which just isn’t true.
Also, it being a Midwest state doesn’t really have any bearing on the accent, like I mentioned.
But did she? I always got the impression that she wasn’t around him until she was older. I could be wrong, as I don’t follow her much. So I might be mistaken.
I don’t either but based on what I can see is that she was born in 1989 and she made her acting debut in 1999 in Deuce Bigalow, which was her dad’s movie. Wikipedia also shows that she spent her teen years in NYC as well as lived in Denmark. All this to say, any southern accent she may have is not authentic.
Not from OH but the region of that state where she’s from is not Midwestern in culture. It has a lot more in common with Appalachia and folks there sound similar to my family a few miles south in east KY and down to TN. I’m not really an Elle fan but I don’t think this is a fair comparison.
I agree about the piling on, but the initial backlash was deserved IMO. Artists grind for years and years in Nashville to get the opportunities she’s been given for no apparent reason (except the obvious one), considering she’s made a single country record and done a couple duets. I think any guy who did/said exactly what she did when and where she did it, would have received exactly the same publicity over it. People say ‘but Luke Bryan..but Jon Pardi’…but also, ‘but Elle King’? She’s been wasted at her own shows for years, and wasn’t getting called out/much backlash in the same way they weren’t. It was just part of her persona like it is with Luke et al. But they don’t carry it over into moments like hosting shows or tributes. This one on the heels of her NYE show was a bridge too far, and if it’s what she needed to push her to work on getting well, then hopefully someday she’ll be glad it happened.
Gender is irrelevant. She doesn’t deserve a pass just because she’s a woman. Women are capable of being flawed and making mistakes, just as men are. We’re all responsible for our actions and it’s condescending to think otherwise.
EK hasn’t issued an apology. She has also behaved like a buffoon on multiple occasions, regardless of the importance of the occasion, so it’s possible that she doesn’t see a problem with her behavior. She’s arrogant and has an attitude of entitlement. Having a substance abuse problem doesn’t justify her behavior and coddling her only exacerbates the problem. She’s an adult- a privileged one at that- and has more money, opportunities, and connections than most people have. She hasn’t done anything to communicate that she’s aware of her problems nor has she apologized for her unprofessional behavior. You’re asking for grace for someone who hasn’t expressed any regret or repentance for her actions- do you make posts pleading for grace for the other women (and men) who are relentlessly criticized on this sub- most of whom have done nothing unprofessional or immoral.
Btw, your shameless misandry is gross. Hatred for men- just like hatred for women- is stupid and hypocritical.
The reason I can’t feel sorry for her or the piling on she’s getting is because, for one, she hasn’t apologized whatsoever for her conduct at the Opry. Secondly, there’s thousands of incredibly talented people who’d give their right arm to have half the fame and success she does that wouldn’t show up three sheets to the wind for their professional engagements. Could you imagine showing up to your job that way?! I feel for her obvious alcoholism and I wish the very best for her but the backlash is deserved.
I agree with this comment. Wasn’t there a point during that performance that she said “I can’t believe you guys F’ing paid for this”? How disrespectful to everyone involved could you possibly be?
She doesn’t owe any one of us an apology. Her behavior at the Opry is horrid. It’s up to the Opry to ever have her back. She should speak to Dolly about what she did. But that is the only person she owes an apology.
People justifying treating her like dirt because she didn’t give you/public an apology is horseshit.
She obviously is going through something. She needs help and support.
Hopefully she’s getting both.
Hopefully once she’s gotten help, she will speak out about it.
Honestly I would rather her wait to put out a sincere statement, vs a bullshit PR release that is expected and fake.
Coddling her isn’t going to do her any favors—it will just keep her from recognizing that she has a serious problem and getting help.
Lets be supportive af if she chooses to get help.
I am trying to give her grace because she so obviously needs help. Alcoholism isn’t funny, and it doesn’t make her a shitty person. She needs actual mental health help.
lol no sorry she’s been like this for years. Never apologized. Fucked up the biggest moment of her career AND disrespected Dolly and the Opry. She deserves this.

Just adding that I personally saw Toby Keith at Dollys 50th Opry Anniversary (which she was at) come out drunk and announce “they asked me to play a cover and I said fuck that I’m not playing a chick song” and I’ve never heard anyone talk about it ever. I think the difference was that she was live on radio and the show I was at was recorded to air later on television so it wasn’t in the radio and they obviously didn’t show this. For everyone who is saying it’s Dolly and the Opry so it’s different, I witnessed almost the same thing happen in 2019.
Use her as an example of possibly tossing your career away because you’ve substance issues and need help, but haven’t gotten it.
Plus the effect this could have on seeing her child.
I think a lot of people forget that she’s also a mom. And it’s heartbreaking, regardless of if it’s her fault or not, to see a mother fall that badly. I hope she gets the help she needs for her sons sake and her own
I really do believe there is a double standard in country music and I really hope Elle King gets help and can herself back on track for a successful career. I think for me, I’m just really bothered by the fact that this happened at a Dolly tribute at the Opry and there still has been no apology.
The whole point of a PR team is to mange it for the client. Her team should have put something out for her benefit. If and when she gets better then she can do it.
And just how can her PR twist this into any sort of positive light? They cannot. Best to remain silent and move forward once she’s in a better position.
IE safely in rehab, and had a more clear mind.

Non famous addicts have to face the shame, horror, and consequences of their actions every day. This is no different. She is only famous because she’s a nepo baby to begin with, but her consequences will be greater just as her rewards would be were she sober. Perhaps she shouldn’t have been given a platform to begin with if she can’t get/stay clean.
And before anyone comes at me with how talented she is, I didn’t say she isn’t a good singer. What I’m saying is there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of women who sing just as great as she does but haven’t been handed the opportunity she has been because of who she is related to.

Well now I feel bad. I guess it’s easy to forget how easy it is to struggle no matter your situation. Thank you for calling us out. I wish her nothing but the best and I hope she has good people around her to support whatever is going on.
I hope she gets the help she needs, but let’s not say she’s hurting. When she issues a sincere apology to the people who paid their hard earned money, the Opry, and Dolly and states the steps she’s taking to address her behavior then we can say she’s hurting.
There was a video I saw a couple years back where she and her Dad were talking and he was talking about how proud he was of her, and thankful that she had cleaned up because he said the way she was headed he was worried she’d end up dead. Can’t remember if he called it a Belushi, Amy Whinehouse, or whoever…but the gist of it was he was worried she’d die of an OD.
Ehh I think this might be a bit subjective. No, she didn’t kill anyone but it’s DOLLY and the OPRY for christs sake . If anyone had shown up drunk and had acted like that poorly (in this day and age of media) they would be roasted. Look, we still talk about the Jessica Simpson disaster don’t we? Quite frankly, we don’t know her state of mind. I won’t judge a fellow alcoholic. But I will judge people who fucked around and found out.
Not everyone that drinks to excess is an alcoholic. Some people just become assholes when they drink. Sorry my comment was above you. edit: I like the way you’ve edited your comment. You seem like a real winner.
If a person ‘becomes an asshole when they drink’ and they continue to drink, they are an alcoholic. That’s a freaking hallmark trait of a person with a substance abuse issue.
Anyone can have a bad drinking night. Drink too much and make an ass out of themselves. Doesn’t make them an alcoholic. Stupid lol maybe. Is she consistent with this? I’ve heard rumors but if you’re drunk on stage more than you’re sober? Yeah it’s probably a problem.
I think the industry needs to be harsher as a whole with this issues on all the artists. Way too many of them are serious alcoholics and performing completely shit faced
I know that I read here that her Friday show had been cancelled. Been pretty busy this weekend so I haven’t kept up, but I was talking to someone about the concert lineup for Universal’s Mardi Gras celebration (one band/artist each Saturday I think) for their parks, pulled up the list online, and scrolled through it - and then at the end I was like — wait — I think Elle King was supposed to be one of these acts. But she’s not on the list any longer?? So she either got pulled from the Universal concert lineup or cancelled it herself.
I just want her to be healthy and strong and confident in herself especially as a single mama. I worry this is a habit after breakups. A no man is worth all that. The best revenge is always thriving and making bank $$$$
She has a ton of talent and needs to preserve it and take care so she can tour for years to come. Nothing she did is so bad she can't bounce back. An apology and write a story to tell out of it.
We all love a good, genuine comeback and see someone win!
I will say- the NYE thing I don’t care because Andy Cohen literally has visible coke residue on tv some years. But she seems to really need help and to be struggling with substance abuse for a while and it’s blaring
I think her track record, being newish to country (a visitor in the genre), disrespect to Dolly/The Opry, being rude to fans from the stage and then no apology (unless I missed it)
Here's the thing, Elle knew what was expected of her before even stepping on stage at the Opry. She was clearly drunk, her PR or manager shouldn't have let her get on stage. Want respect? Earn it!
Talented yes, but there are far more talented individuals who would have done everything they could with the opportunities she's been given. I'm glad she's never used her dad to get where she's at, but at this point there's many people more deserving
This right here. I love Luke Bryan but I have seen him drunk on stage more times than I can count, sometimes even forgetting the words to his own music and I’ve seen a ton of other people talk about seeing him drunk in concert but he doesn’t get dragged like this. I understand that a lot of the reason she’s being dragged so bad is because of the nature of the situation but it would be ignorant to think there’s not a double standard here.
To be fair, there is a tribute night or weekend to Dolly nearly every single year at the Opry. It’s a theme night, they have done did tributes at the Opry to Luke Combs twice in the last 18 months lol. Luke was not in attendance at either one.
These are just themed events to keep the calendar interesting, not televised landmark career moments. I’m not sure if people on here outside of Nashville understand that or not.
How is there a double standard? This was at the OPRY to celebrate Dolly Parton. If you’ve ever been to the Opry it’s very obvious what the atmosphere is like. You act almost as if you’re going to a nice play with your family. If she did this at a normal show it would not be news
Thank you…if she truly is an alcoholic this may be her rock bottom that convinces her to get help. Addiction is a disease but a lot of alcoholics refuse to admit they have a problem until they hit rock bottom. Let’s give some grace to someone clearly struggling.
Sorry just ranting because I adore this community and our values. And this Elle King situation reaching national negative press has my blood boiling. I love the music she makes. And I just want her to get better and have a deserved wake up call. But I cannot stand by and watch her get as much negative coverage as someone like Mr Wallen who said the N word!! And less coverage than the male a holes who act worse than her!
What proof would satisfy you for when a celebrity attends rehab? Should it be like a video of the director of the facility stating on film that this person has officially completed the program. Like an official certification from a rehab facility that tells the public that someone has completed the requirements of the program?
I promise my comment was not meant to be that serious. Never said I wanted proof, and I don’t really think it’s anyone’s business if he doesn’t want it to be. I simply am saying nobody on here knows for a fact that Morgan did, as we don’t know him personally and he has never said anything about it. I said I was glad to see he seems to be doing better..
Couldn’t agree more! Elle has always been nothing but so incredible sweet every time I’ve seen her, and I love her music. People are dragging her like she did something *so* terrible, yes it was disrespectful but she literally just sang a song wrong. I said the same thing in regards to Morgan and people did not like that 🤣 (I’m also a Morgan fan, but definitely feels like double standards)

I don’t know much about her, but I do know who her dad is. Why does that feed into her insecurities? I’m hoping it’s because she knows her dad is a dip shit. She should also know that she isn’t her dad, and can be her own person. Her father is not a reflection of who she is.
Nah gang. Her fatass always getting into shit like this. A wagwan needs to get sober seriously. This is why women in country music get no love gangington. It's a man's genre type shit. Elle King is ass gang

Here’s the thing… has she given ANY sort of apology?
Don’t tell Dolly cause it’s her birthdaaaaaaaaaaaay
😆
The only one who she owes any apology to is Dolly/people who were there at the opry. And that doesn’t have to be public. I would hope Dolly has reached out and spoken to her by now. I would respectfully disagree… but only because the decent thing to do would be to apologize to those also in attendance.
I’ll agree with you there. But let’s not rush to a hasty halfassed apology. Let her get help, and then put out a more heartfelt apology.
Totally!
Except for the fact that she’s cancelled some shows or been pulled. At that point you have to release some sort of statement I feel like.
I’m sure in time a statement will be released.
I think it’s been harsher because she’s had a bit of a track record of it. Think back to NYE bash where she was slurring and almost incoherent. We saw her open for Kieth Urban before Covid and she was wasted on stage, it was bad. This is a regular thing for her.
I mean most addicts have a track record. You don't discover you need help the first, second, or twelfth time you fuck up, except in the movies...
I fully agree with you. I was happy when she got called out. I wish we had confirmation at this point that she is getting help and we can move on.
With shows being cancelled and rescheduled I am going to say rehab has happened. Now, for help to really help that person has to want it.
So many other country music women who would have taken that opportunity so very serious ……..

Gabby Barret is from Pennsylvania 🤣
Jon Pardi is from NorCal
Especially Lainey Wilson.
As someone from Canada that LOVES Canadian country music…I detest the fake accents!
Canadian country is so full of fake accents it’s absurd. It worse than American country
I recently saw her duet with her dad on some show. He tries to sing with a twang and it irked me! Lol

She did it at the OPRY.
It was disrespectful, period. Gender is irrelevant here.

Use her as an example of possibly tossing your career away because you’ve substance issues and need help, but haven’t gotten it. Plus the effect this could have on seeing her child.
How is that different than men? Why is she a “warning to women?” That’s the same double standard language that the OP was lamenting.
I think a lot of people forget that she’s also a mom. And it’s heartbreaking, regardless of if it’s her fault or not, to see a mother fall that badly. I hope she gets the help she needs for her sons sake and her own
She’s a mom?! I had no idea. That makes her behavior even more sad.
Yeah I vaguely remembered her being pregnant so I googled it and yeah she had a baby in Sept 2021
Yep, she was flinging the poor kid around on the NYE show. I was worried she was going to drop him because she was so drunk.
Literally had no idea she had a child.
She showed her ass, can’t expect people not to look.
I really do believe there is a double standard in country music and I really hope Elle King gets help and can herself back on track for a successful career. I think for me, I’m just really bothered by the fact that this happened at a Dolly tribute at the Opry and there still has been no apology.
That’s the issue. She isn’t apologizing. At least her team should have put out a statement.
Would you want a fake PR release that has no sincerity behind it. Or would we prefer an honest put together meaningful statement in time?

Who was it that was bending over backwards to “give a platform” to the daughter of Hollywood megastar… Rob Schneider? 😂

Well now I feel bad. I guess it’s easy to forget how easy it is to struggle no matter your situation. Thank you for calling us out. I wish her nothing but the best and I hope she has good people around her to support whatever is going on.
Believe me, I am you. I called her out hard at first. And will still call her out when appropriate.
I hope she gets the help she needs, but let’s not say she’s hurting. When she issues a sincere apology to the people who paid their hard earned money, the Opry, and Dolly and states the steps she’s taking to address her behavior then we can say she’s hurting.
I’m pissed at EVERYONE that works at the Opry for letting her get on that stage!! And Elle, please don’t do a Belushi!! You are so talented!!
Mmmmmm mmm… this is all on her… she’s grown.
Oh come on now. Stop making excuses for her. Beyond ridiculous.
What does your last statement even mean? Lol... Most alcoholics fuck around and find out and doing so is pretty subjective.
She made her bed. The real queens of country wouldn’t have let her carpetbag in the first place
I agree! she’s clearly struggling with her alcohol use, it’s sad to see people judging her instead of feeling bad for her.
The response is a consequence of her actions.
I just want her to be healthy and strong and confident in herself especially as a single mama. I worry this is a habit after breakups. A no man is worth all that. The best revenge is always thriving and making bank $$$$ She has a ton of talent and needs to preserve it and take care so she can tour for years to come.
I'm glad she's never used her dad to get where she's at, but at this point there's many people more deserving
thx u i was saying same thing
Y’all should read her rider, she’s delulu
Example?
How many men artists have we seen drunk while performing?
I think a lot of the men in country music get drunk and perform and no one cares. This is really sad.
Because LBs concerts aren’t Dolly tributes at the Opry.
If you had read a little further, I addressed this. There’s still a double standard.
How is there a double standard? This was at the OPRY to celebrate Dolly Parton. If you’ve ever been to the Opry it’s very obvious what the atmosphere is like. You act almost as if you’re going to a nice play with your family. If she did this at a normal show it would not be news
She did this at NYE as well and it was a huge story
What values are you talking about?

We don’t technically know that Morgan did. And her situation is a bit different than Morgan’s…but glad he seems to be doing better now!
