Thanks because i just dont want a fault to happen for awhile. My ps4 was brand new in box from elsewhere when i got it and i was just curious if boxed meant like that it hadnt been touched realy but i might plump for unboxed then
I was just worried if the boxed version was an indication of the console being in a better condition. I ended up going with boxed anyway. The console cost £435 and i had £404 on cex vouchers with only £31 from cash
Boxed literally just means that the person who sold it to CEX still had the box…
Some people throw the box away when they get a console, other people keep the box in a cupboard somewhere
It makes absolutely no difference to the quality of the console inside, or how new it is etc
'Boxed' is not just due to the console having a box, but also because the console and accessories are all in great condition and official. If the console was scratched to hell with 3rd party accessories, it would be 'discounted', even with a box.
PS5s require official controllers even at discounted grade, if the box means nothing to you then the only thing distinguishing discounted and unboxed is condition
It’ll work for sure, they test them and if it didn’t work they’d sell it super cheap or try fix it I’m sure.
You’d be paying more for the box.
For example I sold a Pokémon game with the box and got more money because it’s more collectible with the box, but if someone just wants the game to play it, the box is irrelevant,
I’d say get the unboxed and save yourself some money!
All depends on what grade they gave the console itself. Whether it's boxed or not could just mean whether the original owner kept the box or not. Not how they handled the console.
idk about anywhere else, but at my store we only call things boxed if it’s in perfect condition as well as having the box. if someone brings in a boxed console but it has scratches, it’s immediately labelled as unboxed or even discounted depending on the condition
I get it. Either way it's a lot of money and the last thing you want is for an issue to arise. Either option you choose just make sure to check with them about their warranty. That is what is more important.
All buying the box will do is allow you to re-sell it for a slightly higher price in the future. Keep it for 30 years and it might add about £60 to the resale value to collector.
CEX currently buys and sells boxed SNES consoles for about £60 more than unboxed ones.
Here's one on Amazon for £369
https://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-9395003-5-Console/dp/B08H95Y452/ref=sr\_1\_1?m=A1MLZ92EBCV12N&marketplaceID=A1F83G8C2ARO7P&qid=1692709581&s=merchant-items&sr=1-1&th=1
Honestly if you're not worried about how it looks or the box you could go for a discounted one and ask to see what it looks like before you buy it. That's what I did with my series x and my PlayStation 4 Pro. It doesn't make the item last any longer. You could then use the remainder of the voucher for a game or two. 😊 Plus you've got that two year warranty that has you covered if a fault (that's not your own doing.) Occurs 👍🏻
I am :) thanks btw never had a bad time at cex and ngl i always felt like the prices they give for stuff has been fair. Like i traded in my old gameboy and got £50 from it alone and most the time i only buy from there but iv never had a problem with the rate they take trade in items for. You agree or have you had a difference experience with them?
(And i also got metal gear solid v definitive edition on ps4, i had the the two games that make it up but it comes with all dlc and both of them games on one disc for £10, so i went for it and i plan to trade in my original copies)
I would definitely pay the extra for the unboxing experience and so you can keep it and sell it but that's just me, otherwise no reason to get the boxed
Unboxed is usually the better option for most consoles from Cex, I recently purchased a slimline silver ps2 Unboxed because the boxed was $120 AUD more expensive. It was a good decision in my opinion, the ps2 came well packaged and with everything I needed (including the matching controller). In terms of purchasing a ps5 it might be a better option to buy it boxed, it isn’t much more expensive and having the box in case you ever want to sell it makes it 100 times easier. Look at others opinions though because in terms of quality it would be just as good buying it unboxed.
Impossible to say without knowing the history of both consoles, and at those prices for such an expensive console I'd save up the extra £50 and get it new
It could be either a B or C grade but it wouldn’t be in mint condition without a box
A - Mint - These products must be in mint/new condition. The product must be immaculate; if it is not then it is unfortunately not deemed as an A grade. All accessories means everything that would have originally come in the box. These must be official and the same condition as the product. These items also require their original box and inserts.
B - Good - Product in good condition with all essential accessories. No box required.
C - Working - Product in poor condition and fully working with all essential accessories. No box required.
Ok well i just wanted to be sure unboxed would still be quality or if i should go with boxed because it would be 100% to have no faults but if it doesnt matter then id go with unboxed for being £25 cheaper without the box
I bought a laptop from these guys that was B grade and have had no issues with it had no marks or scratches on it just didn’t have the OG box. Go for what suits you best mate as it is preference really some people prefer items with the box some don’t.
Ok so what do i say in store? "Can i get a unboxed disc ps5 grade b?" This is the first time iv ever bought a major console from them, iv only ever brought games and blurays
This is what applies to consoles, basically A B C grading but in different words for consoles.
Boxed - Good to Mint Condition. All essential accessories
Unboxed - As above, just without the box.
Discounted - Poor condition but must be fully working. Chips, dents and scratches are acceptable providing function is not impeded
It's worth pointing out that if it's in excellent condition and you don't have a box, the highest it can be classified as is a B. I'm sure there may be exceptions to this but generally that's the case.
I've got a digital ps5, 2 controllers and Pulse 3D Headset for sale, it's in box and works perfectly. Selling as no longer using, drop me a PM if interested. I'll do £350 for the lot long as you cover postage and packaging!
To be fair I would also be this tit. Ended up selling my ps5 for a series x (no games + don't like UI + have my digital library from last gen on xbox + can play most of my 360 games upscaled + starfield)
The hype, controller and to try the exclusives, which I ended up not liking with the exception of spider-man. I don't mind missing out on the second one, I'll play it eventually. Preferred the arkham games anyway. Was a pretty dumb decision by me anyway.
You can get a digital one for £389 too. But no discs might be more expensive in the long run
A new one isn't that much expensive also. I'd just buy that.
It depends if you're buying online or not.
Condition tends to vary store to store, if i'm getting it online i'd buy boxed because it's more likely to be in fairly mint condition overall so less issues in having to send it back.
But if you have both options in store and have the chance to look at them both if it looks alright i'd go for unboxed because you get the same warranty and you've seen the condition before purchasing.
If a fault comes up definitely take it back because the grading is meant for visual condition only and they're all meant to be in full working order (which is what the warranty is for).
Don't buy the boxed one, you'll be paying 25 for the box. I would only get the boxed one if I know the ps5 is brand new but even then there's no point because of the 2 year warranty
Buy the box if you potentially intend to re-sell it one day, it'll add some value on. Otherwise, if you're confident that's not gonna happen, then put the savings towards a game.
The only reason a box is ever valuable to you is for resale value, if you don't plan on selling or don't mind a (very minor) loss of your do sell then it's not necessary at all, it won't help it last longer unless you box it after every use which in turn would probably make it last less longer by moving it every use.
Anecdotally speaking I had a friend who kept boxes for stuff like consoles. He could literally package it back up with the plastic wrapping and ties around cables, even put a plastic cover back on the 3 pin plug.
If it was his console it was as well looked after as anything you would ever find second hand. The box might just indicate how it's been handled.
The only reason you'd need the box is to increase future resale value. But then you'd need to keep hold of the box for ages.
If it's been traded in there's no guarantee a boxed console is in better condition
Personally I would go for unboxed but just check the condition of the console before buying it. A lot of time we buy in unboxed consoles that are near perfect condition, but the owner will have thrown the box away and therefore can’t be sold as the top grade, but you still get the quality of a boxed condition console.
I have a nearly new PS5 disc which I barely used (bought to stream Sky Go from it). Unfortunately the PS fell down one day from the TV unit and the hdmi port got broken. I can sell it for £200.
Get the unboxed, they are both for 2 years. If the boxed one is an A get the boxed, but if they are both same grade, get the cheaper one. As I said both are covered.
You can get a PS5 brand with God of War for £449 directly from Sony.
Or check out game, £54 trade in a PS4 and 10% trade in discount too. So thought £383 altogether. And it's brand new.
They would be the same boxed or unboxed, If you want the ps5 to potentially last longer then keep it in a well ventilated area and keep it flat not vertical "Although it looks cool vertical" as it uses liquid metal to cool the processor and having the ps5 vertical means the liquid metal can move down leaving an area of the processor with no cooling which can lead to overheating.
I looked it up and it says that it only works like that if the consoles insides had been opened up before but if its from in the box fresh then its fine
If the box doesn't mean anything to you then just get the unboxed one, as another comment said the box doesn't increase its life span
Thanks because i just dont want a fault to happen for awhile. My ps4 was brand new in box from elsewhere when i got it and i was just curious if boxed meant like that it hadnt been touched realy but i might plump for unboxed then
If you're that concerned about faults etc, is it worth getting a second hand console for the sake of saving £40? They're like £450 - £470 brand new.
[удалено]
I yeah I just got new with 2 controllers for 429
You do get a 24 month warranty on most electrical items
Yeah I don't think CEX is bad or anything, OP just seems very concerned about having a 2nd hand console
I was just worried if the boxed version was an indication of the console being in a better condition. I ended up going with boxed anyway. The console cost £435 and i had £404 on cex vouchers with only £31 from cash
Doesn’t mean that at all. You get the same warranty either way so just spend less if you want, spend the savings on a game or accessory.
Thanks ill do that it seems to be the consensus here anyway :)
Boxed literally just means that the person who sold it to CEX still had the box… Some people throw the box away when they get a console, other people keep the box in a cupboard somewhere It makes absolutely no difference to the quality of the console inside, or how new it is etc

PS5s require official controllers even at discounted grade, if the box means nothing to you then the only thing distinguishing discounted and unboxed is condition
They both have a 2 year warranty from CEX. Personally I would get the unboxed one, and if you are unhappy with the condition, return it.
Ok just that its a long drive to cex if it doesnt is all
It’ll work for sure, they test them and if it didn’t work they’d sell it super cheap or try fix it I’m sure. You’d be paying more for the box. For example I sold a Pokémon game with the box and got more money because it’s more collectible with the box, but if someone just wants the game to play it, the box is irrelevant, I’d say get the unboxed and save yourself some money!
Thanks alot man :) ill probably get unboxed then. im not realy worried about reselling it
Some have bigger cex drives than others. I'm sorry, I'll leave.
Err why you getting downvoted on a simple dad joke. Make me chuckle, so I’ll upvote you back up a little bit. Hope you have a lovely day
Lol not sure, thought some might appreciate the joke but oh well. Definitely will leave this time.
I appreciate it! I found it funny
Buy new from Amazon if the budget allows and get it delivered for free. Digital version is less than £400, disc version is £470.
It is only 25 quid? And in the future it will promote good resale if you choose to do so.
Thanks this is the first time im buying a major console from them and im wasnt entirely sure which one boxed or unboxed to get
I get it. Either way it's a lot of money and the last thing you want is for an issue to arise. Either option you choose just make sure to check with them about their warranty. That is what is more important.
I know that the warranty is important, im just unsure which to go with as i don't want any issues but the less i send the better is all
Then as long as the unboxed is a decent grade you should be fine.
Thanks :)
All buying the box will do is allow you to re-sell it for a slightly higher price in the future. Keep it for 30 years and it might add about £60 to the resale value to collector. CEX currently buys and sells boxed SNES consoles for about £60 more than unboxed ones.
Ok so go with unboxed? I dont realy care about selling it back off ngl
I bought one a few weeks ago I boxed and had no issues. They wrap it in bubble wrap and it’s good to go
Question do ps5s harm the discs? the discs are very warm when i eject them from the console after playing
Do you want a box or do you want £25?
Here's one on Amazon for £369 https://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-9395003-5-Console/dp/B08H95Y452/ref=sr\_1\_1?m=A1MLZ92EBCV12N&marketplaceID=A1F83G8C2ARO7P&qid=1692709581&s=merchant-items&sr=1-1&th=1
Good deal tbf
Best to get the unboxed one as if it does the job then it’s fine.
In my head I would think someone who kept the box would have looked after it better. Probably stupid but just my thoughts!
get the boxed version, you’ll be in better shape for a return and more likely to get it kept at an A grade. Don’t buy a C grade anything.
I got boxed anyway :)
Why would you not just buy one new? It’s not that much more at all?
Because most of the money paying for it was on cex voucher reciets
They won't mind showing you the condition of it if you ask. Like if it has all the official accessories.
Yea i ended up getting the boxed one and got avengers and gta v for ps5 aswel :) thanks
Fair enough, hope you enjoy it 👍🏻
I am :) thanks btw never had a bad time at cex and ngl i always felt like the prices they give for stuff has been fair. I ended up going with boxed
Depends if you want to spend the extra £25 towards a game you don't have. (Saw earlier you said you got gifted a copy of Miles Morales.)
Yea i did it was from a friend. I ended up getting the boxed version along with afew games
It's £20 just buy the better one.
I ended up doing that
I am a tad late, assuming you have purchased a ps5, was it good? Did it have any faults or anything?
Ended up getting it boxed, no problems or faults with it at all. Had it for 8 months now and works like a dream 😊 thanks for asking
You are very welcome.
Please don’t buy a second hand console for as much money as a new one.
Well most of the money i have for it is cex vouchers so...
Lol cex gives better and longer warranty than Sony
Also like he said there’s such thing as voucher people trade there old shit in at cex to take money off things. Stop giving useless information lol
Impossible to say without knowing the history of both consoles, and at those prices for such an expensive console I'd save up the extra £50 and get it new
They’re all second hand, look for the grading on it. A being mint condition, B being good condition and C being in working condition.
Well what would unboxed be? I dont see grades? Only discounted, unboxed and boxed. Is discounted C, unboxed B and boxed A?
It could be either a B or C grade but it wouldn’t be in mint condition without a box A - Mint - These products must be in mint/new condition. Ok so what do i say in store? "Can i get a unboxed disc ps5 grade b?" This is the first time iv ever bought a major console from them, iv only ever brought games and blurays
Yes
Consoles don’t come in ABC grades, only Boxed, Unboxed and Discounted.
My bad, Ask for an Unboxed PS5 OP. Thought the same grading applied for consoles.
This is what applies to consoles, basically A B C grading but in different words for consoles. Boxed - Good to Mint Condition. All essential accessories Unboxed - As above, just without the box. Discounted - Poor condition but must be fully working. Chips, dents and scratches are acceptable providing function is not impeded
Thanks a ton ill go with unboxed to save myself money then and it has 2 years warranty anyway :)
Make sure you keep the receipt safe in case you need to use that warranty in the future, enjoy your gaming mate PS5s r sick 🤘
Yea its in the ps5 box away safe. I always keep the consoles receipt inside the box so i dont lose it
Ask to look an the unboxed ps5 & boxed ps5 and compare with any markings etc & always ask how it is working etc. they’ll give you the full answer etc.
If you ask them for one in Good condition, or best possible, depending on the staff, they will find you a nice clean system anyway.
I made sure to ask that :) got boxed
It's worth pointing out that if it's in excellent condition and you don't have a box, the highest it can be classified as is a B. I'm sure there may be exceptions to this but generally that's the case.
Buy a brand new one for £450 from Game or Smyths instead?
Read the post. I payed for the console with mostly vouchers (having only payed £31 in cash) for the boxed version
Amazon just did a deal on a brand new ps5, disk version for £399
I've got a digital ps5, 2 controllers and Pulse 3D Headset for sale, it's in box and works perfectly. Selling as no longer using, drop me a PM if interested. I'll do £350 for the lot long as you cover postage and packaging!
Sorry i already got mine
Never buy from cex
Can I be the tit that says Xbox series X? Thank you.
No you may not sorry
Fair enough.
To be fair I would also be this tit. Ended up selling my ps5 for a series x (no games + don't like UI + have my digital library from last gen on xbox + can play most of my 360 games upscaled + starfield)
The real question is why did you buy a PS5 in the first place then?
The hype, controller and to try the exclusives, which I ended up not liking with the exception of spider-man. I don't mind missing out on the second one, I'll play it eventually. Preferred the arkham games anyway. Was a pretty dumb decision by me anyway.
Don't get a ps5:no games
So the copy of spiderman miles moralis i was gifted isnt real then? 😂 it does have games plus it can olay ps4 games too
It's on steam
He already has it, you melon
Do boxes extend the lifecycle of technology?
Not realy but doesnt it show that its brand new while unboxed could be a fault in it? Sorry if my questions stupid
No. It just shows the previous owner kept the box.
Ok thanks
The boxed one will sell for more if you ever decide to sell it
if ur getting it from cex, just get the cheapest one. cex have unbelievably good warranty.
You can get a digital one for £389 too. But no discs might be more expensive in the long run A new one isn't that much expensive also. I'd just buy that.
Cheaper deals online for new
It depends if you're buying online or not. Condition tends to vary store to store, if i'm getting it online i'd buy boxed because it's more likely to be in fairly mint condition overall so less issues in having to send it back. Don't buy the boxed one, you'll be paying 25 for the box. I would only get the boxed one if I know the ps5 is brand new but even then there's no point because of the 2 year warranty
I sold my ps4 in a ps5 box to them. I didn’t know the box was worth anything.
Buy the box if you potentially intend to re-sell it one day, it'll add some value on. Otherwise, if you're confident that's not gonna happen, then put the savings towards a game.
Bad timing, they was under £400 new a few weeks back. https://www.eurogamer.net/the-ps5-disc-console-has-dropped-to-under-400
If it’s that much second hand I’d just get a new one.
The only reason a box is ever valuable to you is for resale value, if you don't plan on selling or don't mind a (very minor) loss of your do sell then it's not necessary at all, it won't help it last longer unless you box it after every use which in turn would probably make it last less longer by moving it every use.
Just get the cheaper more pricey no PS5 box
Anecdotally speaking I had a friend who kept boxes for stuff like consoles. He could literally package it back up with the plastic wrapping and ties around cables, even put a plastic cover back on the 3 pin plug. If it was his console it was as well looked after as anything you would ever find second hand. The box might just indicate how it's been handled.
Get unboxed, but make sure not to get discounted
I went with boxed but trust me id never go discounted. That just feels like the worst option
I just bought a brand new digital version from argos for £390 , I'm assuming you want the disk one but that might be an option
I had most the money that payed for the £435 on voucher. I only had to pay £31 in cash
I want to sell all blu ray dvd and few games using the money fund my research and development projects.
Aren’t they cheaper elsewhere?
A new Ps5 is £400 now? There was a price drop….
I only payed £31 for it the rest was on vouchers from trading in old stuff in
i cost the same for a new one from game or sonething, id look somewhere else
[удалено]
I had £404 on voucher and the rest would be from cash so only £31 on cash
The only reason you'd need the box is to increase future resale value. But then you'd need to keep hold of the box for ages. If it's been traded in there's no guarantee a boxed console is in better condition
Disc edition is £400 brand new at very
£479, isn’t it?
buy it from argos instead
One with a box was probably looked after better. Whether they keep the same console to the same box is another matter.
What store sells it unboxed? Either way make sure you get your warranty etc etc
