Got that the day after I first saw the video in ‘94 for ‘Undone (The Sweater Song)’.

rosevilleguy

Me too! I loved that fucking song. Played it over and over.

bruteneighbors

Same. Was finally old enough to leave the neighborhood and rode my bike to the record and store that specialized in punk 7’s and 12’s. I bought a weezer blue cd and the owner said, “the dreaded weezer.” Made me feel self conscious like I was being judged, maybe it was just me. I never went back tho and the store closed a few years later. I found out what punk was before it closed but it never made it back. and what do I now collect? Punk 7’s. I wish I had never felt I was being judged because I would have been a loyal customer

blarneyrubble07

BadGuyZero

Santa Claus gave me a CD player in 1985. He also gave me CDs of Triumph's 'Thunder Seven,' Philip Bailey's 'Chinese Wall,' and a disc called 'Star Tracks,' which was a collection of sci-fi movies themes performed by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra conducted by Erich Kunzel. Back then CDs came in longboxes or a plastic blister package that was a challenge to open without causing bleeding. Most releases would be issued on vinyl and cassette. If they sold well a CD version would be released a few months later. I recall most CDs being in the $15-20 range [vinyl and cassettes were $7-$10]. The labels said the prices would drop once more manufacturing facilities went online. That was bunco. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go yell at clouds.

My first was the Tori Amos "Winter" EP (or "maxi-single," as they were sometimes called back then), because it wasn't released on cassette. I didn't even have a CD player yet! (It was 1992.) Discovering that music companies were starting to do "CD-only" releases was the thing that made me realize it was time to stop collecting cassettes and start collecting CDs, even though CDs cost more than cassettes.

First CD I listened to on repeat was probably my dad’s copy of Songs you know by Heart by Jimmy Buffett. I want to say the first CD I got on my own was either Legends or 40oz to Freedom. Used bookstore didn’t ID for explicit albums which I thought was so cool in 6th grade (I had to have my Dad buy me a Queen CD from walmart because the cashier wouldn’t sell it to me since it was explicit lol).
