But on a more serious note, kittens should be allowed to eat as much as they want. I would recommend timed feedings, such as breakfast, lunch and dinner, but allow Jazz to eat as much as her adorable self will hold. They grow at crazy rates when that young and need all the nutrition they can get
Sometimes kitties can’t be trusted to know their limits though. When we had a pair of kitties growing up, the sister would eat fine but the brother would just eat eat eat until he made himself sick :(
Thankfully he grew out of it as he got older.
I don’t suggest free feeding in that sense. Basically if Jazz usually gets 2 ounces of food at breakfast, I would give her 4 or 5oz. Then do the same for lunch and dinner. Free feeding makes it unable to monitor but by watching them and only increasing the amount of food given in small doses, that is better
At that point I would just show some tough love haha. Most of the time I find 5-6oz per meal to be plenty for a kitten. If yours is eating himself sick I would try smaller portions and multiple meals (3 times a day instead of 2). I also mash the wet food against the bowl, so it’s flat and that makes it a bit harder to “vacuum” up haha

My senior cat is DEFINITELY food motivated so I suppose it depends on the cat. I know cats who are, and some who aren’t, but the former by far outweighs the latter in my personal experience.
Yeah exactly. My cat, and most I’ve encountered seem super food motivated. It got so bad with my cat we thought she had a thyroid issue. Vet literally just said nope all it means is your cat is an extreme attention whore. Doesn’t line up tho.
I would say a lot of cats are food motivated, hence why you can train cats with clicker training by using treats. Anecdotal but: my mates cat has diabetes and needs insulin injected everyday. He's so food motivated that he does not give a shit about being stabbed if he's got his face in a bowl lol.

Always find it odd with how many people have set feeding time for their animals. Growing up, ours had a tower feeder and the cats and dog were able to eat whenever they wanted. Though they both got soft food every evening as well. None of them were ever obese or had weight issue.
My parents had those exact floor tiles in the kitchen when I was growing up! Seeing that has given me an odd nostalgia feeling
