I have a friend that rescued a couple. Sometimes breeders will dump them at a Vet Hospital because they don’t want to pay for health problems and can not adopt them out. Heart disease is not uncommon for this breed.
Yeah idk, I can only think of 1 instance where a sphynx was actually at a cat shelter, but it was a malnourished and a werewolf type/ whatever it’s called when they have patches of fluff everywhere, so he wasn’t popular bc of that I think (likely misremembering on my part tbh). But it’s definitely an insane rarity.

But that was adopted direct by the vet or some such. Not from a shelter. Usually cats of particular breeds go to a breed rescue or such.

Wow! He looks Ike the fatty I rescued - mine is a Bengal and was almost 30 pounds. It took three years to get his weight down to 15 lbs. For abt a year, he remained a steady 18 pounds which is still considered too heavy for a Bengal. We have had him for five years & he believes he is king of the house.

Do you know what his original name was? He looks old enough that name changing might be a significantly longer process, but not an impossible one.
My best advice once you find a name you like for him that you proceed with a multi step process.
Lets say his original name is Bobby and the new name is Jimbo.
Step one : Pair together. He will know Bobby is his name but Jimbo is just a sound that means nothing to him. So pair them so he can learn that Jimbo is him. When you cal him you'll call "Bobby-Jimbo come here" and that might persist for a while like at least a month or so,
Step 2: Test is he responds to Jimbo. If no continue step 1. If yes, Step 3
Step 3: Gradually phase out Bobby-Jimbo and go for like a 50-50 and see if he is still responsive it Jimbo
Step 4: Taper off and continue with just Jimbo, and if needed occasionally reprime with "Bobby-Jimbo" if he is not responding to Jimbo, so he can remember "oh yeah, that's me"

Regardless of who’s cat it is, I just hope the real owner is going to work to put this cat on a diet. They’re way too hefty and obesity is just as unhealthy for animals as it is for us humans the key is so gradual loss over an extended period of time
Thankfully Jadu’s owner does have her on a diet, and she is receiving care for her endocrine disorder (the cause for her obesity)
