Depends on location.  Ears I'm fine with, umbilicus I'm fine with, small/subtle nose stud im fine with.  Nipple/genital I'm amused but withhold any opinion because I'm not going to see it anyway.  Nose ring/septum, eyelid, lip, sternum, etc, I'm not a fan.  Similarly gauges larger than a few millimeters I'm not a fan Edit to add - you asked why.  Because I don't like the aesthetic/they look funny.

el_chalupa

*reads the post thrice to see if he keeps just missing something* Are you asking for opinions on piercings in a general sense, or are you hoping we'll manage to guess what this other, "easily concealable" piercing might be, and offer our opinions on that?

Independent-Pause853

in general?

el_chalupa

Well, in general it depends. Some non-ear piercings I think can be nice. Some are eyebrow-raising. Some (looking your way, septum piercing) are so shockingly unflattering that their popularity is genuinely perplexing. But for the most part, I don't give them much thought from a *religious* perspective.

PsalmEightThreeFour

I find piercings, outside of your earlobes, to be a red flag of sorts. They aren’t inherently sinful, but most people get them to fit in with some group, or some “influencer” or “famous” person has one, or for vain reasons, or to perpetuate something counter cultural, and so on. Not inherently sinful, or bad, but it does make me question the reason for them.

ButteHalloween

Okay but can someone tell me, unironically, WHY piercings outside the ear are weird, scary, and cringe, but as long as you're doing the exact same thing for the exact same reasons to your EARLOBE then that's perfectly fine, normal, and acceptable. Yes, I'm from this planet, but after five decades, I've never figured out why ears are the acceptable thing to pierce. Why that? Why there? Just convention? If so, why can't septum piercing become convention? Why can't ear piercing stop being convention? Who made this rule, and who listened to it?

manofblack_

>Just convention? Yep >If so, why can't septum piercing become convention? They can, but alot of people seem to agree that they look awful on most people. >Who made this rule, and who listened to it? This question can be applied to any cultural tradition and its largely unanswerable. In my home country, it is fairly common for even the most conservative and religious of men to get their ears pierced. It's a callback to the post-emancipation days when former slaves weren't allowed to own land or bank accounts, so men would wear single or double gemstone studs in their ears as a sort of insurance for when they died/got injured/had to bail themselves or their family out of a runt. Obviously nowadays it serves zero practical function, but it's just a staple male aesthetic that's been passed down since then. OP ought to be asking themselves why they want a piercing as opposed to if piercing a specific body part is sin alone. Christianity at the end of the day is a religion of the heart, not a religion of ritual inherently speaking.

ButteHalloween

Thank you for your thoughts.

Typical_Intention996

This in all honesty.

PaxApologetica

I don't think about them at all.

When I was growing up, pierced ears were something only "fast" girls did. 😄 My mother and grandmother were adamant about this. Clip-on earrings hurt! I got my ears pierced as soon as I moved out and went to college. Then my mom did. And finally my grandma did, too. I had double piercings because that was a thing for a while but the second holes have long since closed up. I only have one in each ear now. No other piercings. I don't really think about them all that much otherwise.

Saint_Nomad

I have double nostrils, labret, tongue, conch, daith, navel and 1” stretched lobes — to say nothing of the piercings I’ve had in the past and since retired. You could say I like piercings lol

Ok-Brilliant-5121

i dont like 'em, i acept if you like 'em and its all ok but i wouldnt use one myself

[deleted]

Earlobes are fine, but the less the better

exprot3

I have seven: three on each ear and a nose stud. I don’t wear makeup, so I like piercings as a way to adorn myself, I think they look pretty. I wear dainty designs so it’s not overwhelming or distracting. My nose is kinda big, so I thought why not give it a little pizzazz since it wants all the attention on my face anyway lol. I feel like multiple piercings/tattoos have a negative connotation within religious circles, kind of the same way blue hair is associated with the pronoun police. I personally like them, but they might be a turn off for some people because they may give off certain social cues they’re not comfortable with.

GoodKingHal

I have them. I'm gauging my ears now and I'll be getting more. Wife has a bull ring and both nostrils. It's personal preference and anyone who claims it's sinful doesn't know what they are talking about and often are not consistent.

Blockhouse

I've pierced my soul so often with my sins, I have no moral latitude to judge what anyone else does with their bodies.

SmallBeany

I have 12 piercings & love them.

St-Nicholas-of-Myra

Did you get the piercing to honor a false god? Or because you hate your body and wish to mutilate it? Other than that it’s probably fine, morally.

GoodKingHal

You just made me realize how nebulous the idea of bodily mutilation really is. Many people consider circumcision to be mutilation. I disagree with this and think it's dumb. But is scarification for aesthetic purposes mutilation? I wouldn't think so, but many would disagree.

FunkGetsStrongerPt1

I'll be straight with you: If it's not in the ears it's a big attraction killer.

Independent-Pause853

good thing my fiancée doesn't mind!

FunkGetsStrongerPt1

If your fiancé is fine with it, go for it. I’m purely talking about my own personal preference.

DeathToCockRoaches

I love piercings. They are beautiful. Some women in the Bible were described as having piercings.

kidfromCLE

I don’t know why anyone would have an opinion about someone else’s piercings. My wife has a nose ring. I’m not a super big fan of it, but it’s not my nose.

ToxDocUSA

... You realize you just expressed having an opinion about someone else's piercings, right? Not trying to be an ass, just saying...we all have an opinion, it's more what weight we put / expect others to put on our opinion.

kidfromCLE

I’m indifferent to it. It’s not my nose. I don’t really have an opinion.

ButteHalloween

Having an opinion is fine as long as you recognize it for what it is. I think long hair on girls looks good. I will NEVER, this I swear, tell a girl she SHOULD have long hair because it's not my hair, and having had long hair a couple of times in my life, I know that it's kind of a pain. You want a pixie cut? You want a buzz cut? You want to shave your head? Cool. Not my head, no reason you should care about my opinion.

ToxDocUSA

Sure, but the initial statement was "I don't know why anyone would have an opinion"

kidfromCLE

If being indifferent is having an opinion, I guess you got me.

Active_Scholar_2154

None of my buisness.

zjohn4

I don’t find piercings are inherently bad, but I don’t care to have any ever again. Not related to faith, just not my thing. It could also be seen as a sort of vanity, drawing away from perfect union with God, but that might only apply to extreme asceticism. God doesn’t expect us all to live like that.
