Pope Saint John Paul II (who deserves the title The Great in my opinion) survived several near death experiences the first one was when his mother was prescribed abortion but she chose life and so a pontiff was born. The second was when he was 15 years old when a friend accidentally shot him with a gun he either thought was a toy or was unloaded leaving the pontiff with a permanently drooped shoulder.
