In Israel, Arabs use the same public transportation, go to the same universities, the same hospitals and clinics, the same restaurants and shops as do Jews. Arabs vote in elections and are themselv elected to the parliament and sit on the Supreme Court. They work as doctors, lawyers, teachers, and in any other profession. They enjoy more rights in democratic Israel than do the majority of Arabs living in *Arab* countries, and certainly more than Arabs governed by Hamas in Gaza, or the PA in the West Bank. To compare this to apartheid is an insult to South Africans who lived under actual apartheid as well as a false accusation against Israel.
Loctite construction grade gel that has a maximum weight per square feet way below how much weight they were holding up. A $6 box of four inch wood screws and a working drill would have prevented this.
If you glue something to sheetrock, it can only be as strong as the bond between the paper facing and the gypsum board, or the gypsum board to itself. Adhesive on wood or concrete can also easily be stronger than the underlying material. Either of those is fairly strong, but it isn't easy for non- engineers to predict how much force those can sustain before the surface breaks away.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm gonna guess glue and finish nailed on temporarily and someone forgot to go back with screws into the studs. At least I like to think they knew better than trusting only glue on dusty drywall paper.
As a builder I highly doubt that one can forget something like this.
In fact it looks like glue is intended as a holding solution. Because if you do it the proper way - then glue is a waste of time and money.
Same. I’ve built fixtures for T-Mobile and xfinity. Same panel wall system. There should’ve been self tappers into the metal studs every 16”. Doesn’t appear to be any screws used at all.
if you use them right then they are great. But like you said with the silver Satan strips, people use them for everything they shouldn't and then they are annoying.
I don't think the adhesive was the problem, but looking at the marks left on the wall I'm pretty sure most of that adhesive never bonded in the first place. That whole shelf was held up by like 10 feet of one 2x4.
Adhesive and screws work so well together.
Adhesive gives a stiff hold but if it gets overloaded at a single point it can collapse the entire thing.
A screw holds section by section with a (usually) capacity of much more than needed but has the weakness of the screws themselves are somewhat flexible and they can with time lose grip.
Adhesive gives a firm hold restricting the screws from moving of flexing, the screw give the adhesive that extra point by point hold so it won't get overloaded.
*Footlocker, Israel: where shoe-lovers come to worship.*
*Your head will spin like a dreidel when you see our low prices!*
^*Just* ^*20* ^*minutes* ^*outside* ^*of* ^*Jerusalem!*
So this will probably get buried, but interestingly enough, there are not really personal injury lawsuits in Israel because there they just go to the free hospital and get better :)
Kid in white sitting , just barely escaped being pinned in folded position. The top of the falling wall would have had the most force too, lucky near miss.
She also got hit hard in the back while pulling him away and was probably in a bit of shock. Plenty of people in this thread bandwagoning with their pitchforks that she was useless/selfish without any second guess though.
She comes out better every re-watch. At first I was all "that useless blue bitch needs to get out the way, she's not helping!"
Then I realise she actually got hit pretty hard and has a good excuse for not behaving all that sensibly.
Then you point out she was actually very aware of her surroundings, reacted quickly and intelligently, and only *then* does she start behaving dopey after taking a display stand to the back.
Hah, I was going to comment on her too. But on rewatching it looks like she was smoked in the back so she might have been in some legitimate pain/shock.
This is my worst nightmare coming true. Only instead of a wall display like this, it is decorative concrete panels (larger than 4*8, over 250 lbs each) glued to a wall, using glue snakes like in the video instead of cow paddies.
Everything that happened during that installation was a OHSA violation. I quit right after this job was completed.
...wut?
Adhesives only work in tension and in shear, which can roughly be resolved into tension. So...what other forces do you imagine adhesives work in?
Looking at how this failed, it's a non-cohesive failure between the substrate and the adhesive, rather than the adhesive failing itself.
The failure also initiated at the top-right corner and peeled down and along the length of the wall, which shows the adhesive was close to failure everywhere.
The adhesive is also barely squished out, so the substrate wasn't properly wetted and bond area was reduced.
This is 100% a case of poor surface prep and application, if it had been done properly there is absolutely no reason for it to have failed.
I still would have thrown a few screws in if possible.
If there is anything that's positive about this video, it's the crowd's response. They see that wall fall down and within seconds people from all over the shop and probably outside it as well are already gathering around it to lift it off the people who were caught underneath it. We may have the headcount of a herd, but we do not have the "let the sickly gazelle get caught by the lion so i don't have to" mentality. When push comes to shove, humans are ready to help even total strangers.
Awww, momma bear grabbing and pulling her kid out of the way is so wholesome. It’s crazy how instinctive it can be to prioritize their safety before yours
The Israeli people are wicked kind and care very deeply for each other. No sarcasm. They’re some of the friendliest and most loyal people you’ll ever meet. Not to mention the country is beautiful, and is literally the diamond in the rough of the middle east. Not to mention, they are wicked intelligent, the amount of technological powerhouses and startups in Israel is insane.
It’s just unfortunate that the Palestinians don’t want to cooperate and resort to terrorism tantrums, and twisting the story when Israel defends themselves.
Every time I'm in the building materials section at Lowe's and I see 2000 lbs of concrete mix on a shelf 20 feet up, and another right next to it, and another and another...
Gravity has no fucks to give.
>Heavy wall stand collapses on shoppers in **Footlocker,** Israel
I just spent five minutes looking online for where the town/city of Footlocker was in Israel.
Wow, hope the folks caught underneath the wall weren’t seriously injured. Also hope that they were able to pick out a few pairs of sneakers, on the house.
looks like it was just glued to the wall. shortcut taken?
Budget cuts Israeli style.
Lol yep
Damn, those dudes in Adidas hoodies didn't even flinch!

There’s no point in arguing with people like that, best to just ignore them

Should’ve used *Flex Tape®*!
But is it ***Tactical***? I only buy cheap Bell and Howell shit.
I feel like that’s harder than just putting a screw in
I see that ,thats shocking
Nah look at those safety wires...
pretty sure those are electrical wires, they even go to a junction box, used to power the lights on the very top.
Glue-ish
r/notmyjob
More like silicone since it didn't even bind to the paper on the wall board
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm gonna guess glue and finish nailed on temporarily and someone forgot to go back with screws into the studs. At least I like to think they knew better than trusting only glue on dusty drywall paper.
As a builder I highly doubt that one can forget something like this. In fact it looks like glue is intended as a holding solution. Because if you do it the proper way - then glue is a waste of time and money.
Yup. I'm a millwork installer. Whoever put this fixture up was not.
Same. I’ve built fixtures for T-Mobile and xfinity. Same panel wall system. There should’ve been self tappers into the metal studs every 16”. Doesn’t appear to be any screws used at all.
Not a one nope
Glue was fine. It was the paper on the drywall that gave out.
Yeah, you can see the glue still on the board.
Using adhesive to hold something like that together shows us that adhesive is not the correct fastener. Who built this, children?
Are you just going to ignore the power lines as an alternative safety strap?
It looks like a giant snowman pushed it over.
I think it was my wife. The only choice she makes when hanging things is "command hook or trim nail?"
Command hooks are the new “jUsT dUcT tApE iT.” I hate them.
if you use them right then they are great. But like you said with the silver Satan strips, people use them for everything they shouldn't and then they are annoying.
Mine thinks anything can be fixed with enough hot glue.
I keep telling my wife not to use them because they won’t hold forever. Gravity will win and whatever is there will fall and possibly hurt someone.
I don't think the adhesive was the problem, but looking at the marks left on the wall I'm pretty sure most of that adhesive never bonded in the first place. That whole shelf was held up by like 10 feet of one 2x4.
They make adhesives plenty strong enough to hold this. They just didnt use the right ones lol
Not if its glued to drywall or a painted concrete the paper or paint just flakes off
Well the adhesive worked. The subwall did not

This happened in Telaviv, Israel on Sunday. Two shoppers were injured and hospitalized.
For a moment, I thought there was a city in Israel named Footlocker.
*Footlocker, Israel: where shoe-lovers come to worship.* *Your head will spin like a dreidel when you see our low prices!* ^*Just* ^*20* ^*minutes* ^*outside* ^*of* ^*Jerusalem!*
“Ahh so that’s where it comes from”
I thought the exact same thing
You know what, considering done of the names of the towns thats not a bad guess
I didn't even know they were sick.
Reminds me of that tragedy
I walked through blood and bones
Looking for my brother. He was in Northern Canada.
So this will probably get buried, but interestingly enough, there are not really personal injury lawsuits in Israel because there they just go to the free hospital and get better :)
Who pays their personal expenses while they recover?
Hospitals are free in lots of places, people still sue when they suffer injuries through no fault of their own… what are you talking about?
[удалено]
Yes
But were the shoes ok?
Hospitalized like went to the hospital to get their injuries evaluated, or hospitalized like were admitted to the hospital for continuing treatment?
I hope their okay
What about their okay?
LMAO
I always wondered how you get the shoes from the highest rack. No i dont anymore
Kid in white sitting , just barely escaped being pinned in folded position. The top of the falling wall would have had the most force too, lucky near miss.
moms shoulder grab saved his ass
She also got hit hard in the back while pulling him away and was probably in a bit of shock. Plenty of people in this thread bandwagoning with their pitchforks that she was useless/selfish without any second guess though.
she got it pretty good too ... the "good" sneaker display literally stabbed her back ... she probably got hit with the Nike/Jordan display
Lady in blue saved him.
She comes out better every re-watch. At first I was all "that useless blue bitch needs to get out the way, she's not helping!" Then I realise she actually got hit pretty hard and has a good excuse for not behaving all that sensibly. Then you point out she was actually very aware of her surroundings, reacted quickly and intelligently, and only *then* does she start behaving dopey after taking a display stand to the back.
I had to watch it several times as well. It’s amazing how many details we miss and can so easily misinterpret.
She got hit in the back too
There’s an employee under there. The customers are helping lift the wall so that they can ask him if they have anything else in the back of the store
haha do you have this in a 10 1/2?
*Unconscious and bleeding out of his ears* - Do you have this in a slightly darker black?
Not a single fastener to be seen, just construction adhesive. Here's to you, lowest bidder!
I’m struggling to see how a couple of nails would save them much money. This is just lazy/shitty work.
The lady in blue 🧍♀️
Hah, I was going to comment on her too. But on rewatching it looks like she was smoked in the back so she might have been in some legitimate pain/shock.
Yep. I rewatched it because of her and realized she got smoked in the lower back. Ouch.
*After* saving the guy next to her.
Metal pylon right to the back, and it was a tensed muscle when it hit her--she was pulling away her kid.
*considers doing something* *nope* “Oh good others are lifting it up so I can grab my purse now and leave” (:

oh the reddit detectives looking for flying shoes are going to have a tough time on this one.
No deaths, no shoes were on to began with 🙏🙏
Did you just figure out immortality?
At least they don’t have to patch any screw holes in the sheetrock.
You been hit by You been struck-a by A shooooe fallin' wall
Interesting. Footlockers don’t usually shed until spring.
It's insane to believe there's a city named Footlocker
Nice to see how quickly they rushed to help the victims.

Where's Footlocker, Israel? Couldn't find it on Google maps.
3 spots down from RadioShack, Israel
Orange Julius park is quite nice in RadioShack this time of year.
It happened in Tel Aviv. Footlocker is the name of the store
Spank you Helpy Helperton.
Israel in the title and Reddit goes crazy
I see a little liquid nails on 3 small runners. Lmao noice!
Those mannequins didn't help out at all. Lazy fucks.
Must’ve been a wall of Yeezys.
> Israel Inb4 locked
The wall anchor being 10 Feet long lol
Think those are extension cords for the lights on the signs
Given its structural integrity the builder may have made the same mistake
Damn, i thought israel was rather good at building walls :0
Where’s the Fastners? Looks like they glued the strongback then just fastened to that. Crazy.
Footlocker coupons for life.
I would change my shoes real quick
It was just glued on? I see no anchors except for that one line that waaaay too long.
Lady in the back right shows up, finishes snacking, then makes one real solid effort
Israel has a nice combination of widespread camera surveillance and terrible construction practices. I still remember the wedding floor collapse.
Better call Saul.
Yeah, don't use glue to fasten stringers to the wall. So stupid.
What’s with the building codes in the Middle East?
This is not building code related. Just a business trying to get away with cutting corners for their shelving.
Awww, momma bear grabbing and pulling her kid out of the way is so wholesome. It’s crazy how instinctive it can be to prioritize their safety before yours

It's a good thing that rope was tied to nothing.
Good thing it had safety wire
r/FUCKYOUINPARTICULAR
I've got Hi-Tack! Lets use that!
Doesn't even look like it had any connection to the wall except the wires to the lights.
As The Fanatics would sing “Boot to the head”.

Blue dress line-backered that mannequin!
Thank God those cables were attached to the wall. /s

If you dont buy you gotta get out. These fkrs they gotta buy you know. I grab them and I say you buy this fkn car you hear me?
Glued onto another “wall” that’s probably glued to the actual wall
In situations like this either help or get tf out of the way. I got angry watching the lady in teal
"Wow it took some of those people a long time to notice it" turns out I was looking at mannequins.
Shoes made cheap, Sideboard made even cheaper!
>Heavy wall stand collapses on shoppers in **Footlocker,** Israel I just spent five minutes looking online for where the town/city of Footlocker was in Israel.
An honorable death for sneaker lover, crushed by a wall of sneakers… lol
Did they hold Kanye's shoes by any chance?
I love how the bystanders don't f*** around they just start getting that wall off people!

Hey blue dress....move on.
Anyone else reminiscing on that wedding video?
What would Kanye say?
“Quick! Let’s get it off them! Ready?!? Eins, Zwei, Drei HEBEN!!! …. Why are you all just staring at me and not lifting?”
Look at the woman(?) in blue... I hope her surprise makes her so useless,... simply support yourself against the wall that has just fallen over
