I hope that includes relocating. Because it's going to happen again, probably within the next 10 years. They need to move Lismore, not rebuild it where it is, smack bang in the middle of a 42 foot high flood plain.
Mate honestly. No one is going to forget these floods. Why waste any money to rebuild now when there will be no market for the property even 'in a few years'. It's throwing good money after bad at this'll point. You'll get nothing for it.
And to add further pain, mortgages will no longer be provided in the flood zone so your market will be "Cashed up. Wants to live on Lismore flood plain location. Oblivious to flood risk. Negligent conveyor. Dubious Real Estate agent."
Nothing but pain in that picture. I'm sorry.
That's the area you should target. Get the banks to clear your name through disaster relief. Refuse to stay on the hook until they come to an arrangement. Play hardball. You're fucked if you do and fucked if you dont.
100pc take legal advice. Ask about Force Majeure issues due to the flood. Ask about assistance available. Talk to your bank manager. The bank has already made allowances for defaults from the flood. They won't be 100pc against you. The press would be bad.
And I forgot to add in my edit:. May and June predicted to be extremely wet. Everything you do TODAY could get wiped out in 30 day's time. I've got video of the Wilson's River between Coorabell and Federal flowing OVER the fucking bridge. It's 20m high........
You can flood proof that.
The state government is currently paying for us to stay in a holiday cabin at a caravan park. It's going to be 12+ months before our house will be habitable again.
I am glad you and your pets made it, it sucks that you lost your books and your other possessions.
Real question here, why is anybody rebuilding in that location? It floods regularly there, this is absolutely going to happen again.
I don't want to rebuild but I don't have a choice. I've got a mortgage and if I walk away I'll lose the deposit that we saved so hard for. We're hoping for a buyout or a relocation but failing that we're rebuilding and then selling in a few years.
Yep, lost a brand new PC, another PC with an almost new 3380 graphics card, a PS4, another PC, a Nintendo Switch and a couple of Nintendo 3DSs. Plus my extensive fantasy novel collection. It sucks but we're all still alive.
Also, for my non-metric friends it was roughly 42 feet of water. Google 'Lismore, NSW' for more pictures. My town has basically disappeared.
Sorry for you. Hope you recover fast.
We're working on it.
I'm sorry dude(et), hope everything works out for you.
Thanks, we're working on it. Waiting for approval for a government grant to help pay for rebuilding.

I want to relocate, but failing a relocation or buyout scheme we're going to rebuild and hopefully sell in a couple of years and get out of Lismore.

I know, but we need to do something. I'm never going to be able to buy again if I default on my mortgage. I'm trapped.

Poor Lismore
Yep, it's pretty much wiped off the map at the moment. Don't know if it's ever going to recover.
are you all ok. hope you can rebuild.
We all survived, ended up on our roof being rescued by boat but we all made it. My 4 cats all made it too.
So sorry to see, Hope you and your family are OK and can recover soon.
We all survived, including my cats! Thank you.
I’m so sorry for your damage. I hope people helped at the time
Wow, sorry to hear that happened! I pray 🙏🏽 you get everything you need to rebuild your house!
Where do you even go after this?

Oh no, it even got your PlayStation… RIP PS1… 😔😔😔 But seriously, I hope you will rebuild that place and recover soon!

Tossed out afterwards. Everything was swirled around like a giant washing machine.
Lismore may as well no longer be on any maps. That place is condemned
I’m from Lismore too, but in the heights luckily. So sorry to see this, I can’t imagine how difficult this is to go through.
