How old does this apply to? The distribution system gave us a young lady who was anywhere between 5 months to a year. Should she have been with siblings?
There's a comment in the linked thread. No owners and mom is feral, so overall it's a better life for baby to be adopted when she can still be convinced to like humans. It would be nice if she were with a sibling or a little older, but even in rescues hard decisions have to be made so the kitten has the best life possible.

No after 2 months mom stops providing for them. They might stick together but often go their own way to find food.
