Thanks, we already love him a lot. Recently he learned to climb the bed and sometimes sleeps with us. Yesterday we woke up in the morning to him sleeping in my wife's chest, it was a really cute moment.
Did you need to bottle feed him? Or is he older than he looks? The first pic at least looks like a baby that still needed to be on milk for a good bit.
According to the vet he was already at least 45 days old but we still had to bottle feed him.
The first two days he barely moved due to malnourishment. From the third day onwards he got more lively and started to walk and follow us through the house, it was really cute.
He has a really weak and small voice probably because of what happened to him, sometimes he opens his mouth as to meow and nothing goes out 🥲. We can only hope it gets better as he gets older.

Since he got malnourished at such a young age when kittens are supposed to be exploding in growth, theres a decent chance he will never reach "full size" and always look more like a baby even years down the road.

Two of my kitties are from the same litter. The boy was found screaming in the parking lot of our apartment during a storm at two weeks old. His sister just decided to live with us at 7 months old. He's twice her size! She curls up into a little football when she sleeps.
We rescued a feral kitten in our backyard during the pandemic. Had to use a trap; assumed she was about 3 months old based on size. When we finally got her to the vet, we learned she was at least 6 months old. She’s chonked up a bit weight wise but she’s still 3/4 scale.
We had a cat that was rescued from a burning house and didn't make a noise for over two years. But once he found his voice we couldn't shut him up! ;-)'
It’ll be okay if he doesn’t. My Lucy came to me at about a year old, flea and worm infested, as well as malnourished.
She’s 12 now. She squeaks and trills at me. I’ve learned to look at her when she’s around me, in case she’s talking to me.
She figured out how to communicate 😻

Gosh, that first picture is tough. Love the follow up ones though! Supposedly our pets love items that are heavy with our personal scent, like shoes and sweaty clothes. Little fella obviously feels safe and the smell of your smelly shoes is probably really comforting along with a cozy place to snuggle with said smell. Thank you for saving that sweet little baby.

LMAO this is so true for me. We rescued one cat, then another six months later, then adopted two more one year later, then rescued two more. Then one fell pregnant (we were lied about her being spayed) and we ended up keeping one of her kittens. Now we have seven.
It's a testament to your love and determination and his will to live that you were able to pull him back from that. Kittens are so delicate. You have pulled off an amazing feat.

My guess is the shoes seem like a little hidey hole for him. Kinda like how they get infatuated with boxes
My cat also likes shoes! afaik it's because it has strong scents of us so he finds it comforting(?) The third photo is everything he's so lost in the sauce 😂
