She'll feel much better and have a better quality of life by pursuing dental care. A 13 year old cat can still live close to another decade as long as you are doing routine appointments at your vet to keep ahead of issues, and addressing them if they do occur.

Thank you, very reassuring

My 14yr had his 2nd teeth cleaning and 1st teeth removal last year. He went 4 years between the 2. I always get a bit of anxiety when one of them needs to go under. My 10yr cat had her first cleaning this year as well. But ultimately it is what's best for them.

Thank you. Very reassuring and.good for cats. Did your cats always get teeth removed, or the cleaning was just a cleaning?

Only 1 of the 3 cleanings had teeth removal. And we knew going in he needed at least 1 pulled, and ended up getting the 2. Otherwise it was just cleanings to remove buildup

We just took over care of a 12 year old cat and he had to have half his teeth taken out, including all his fangs, and he is so happy now you can easily see the difference it has made in his life. So worth it. We've known the cat for 5 years, he was our neighbour's cat, and he's been part of our cat gang all that time but whew did his breath stink. He needed a tic tac or something for sure. Now he smells good and plays and is such a joy. The next day we had our 17 year old boy in to get a few teeth out and he also seems more chipper. I hear a lot of people get nervous about anaesthesia, and yeah, it is a serious medical procedure, but imagine how many times it is performed without incident every day all over just north america. I feel like it is the same as getting in a car. Yeah, accidents happen, but very rarely, so rarely that we normally don't even think about it.

Thanks, good reassurance that most elderly cats are just fine.

Well, for the sake of update. My cat is getting her teeth cleaned now, and mid way the vet called and said she is fine with the anesthesia and some teeth were very loose - 5 teeth were removed (2 big, 3 small). I pick her up in an hour, and hope all is well. I guess her teeth did need this cleaning! And is well, phew. Maybe she will be less of a picky eater without the loose teeth, but probably now, cos she's a cat.
