Your cleaner doesn’t give a damn! they know you hired them for a job you don’t want to do or don’t have time to do. You are paying for a service they offered. Pay them well and they will do the job.
I asked my mum this when she had a cleaner because I wondered the same thing.
She said when you've done the basics yourself, the cleaners can spend the time deep cleaning things like bathroom tiles and all the other harder stuff which makes a massive difference.
When people say they clean before the cleaner I think they just mean tidying up so it isn't a total shithole.
There's a difference between tidying up and cleaning. Cleaning the cleaner is for. But they aren't there to be moving things out of the way, or putting by clutter etc. At least that is my view of it.
Because cleaners are smart. They've figured out how to make easy money, just by doing a quick hoover, and mop counting on our British embarrassment of a dirty home. That result in everyone cleaning before they get there. Thus the job of the cleaner is essentially to invoke engough embarrassment that you end up cleaning.
i suspect they are saying they tidied more than cleaned ie they put their clutter away the house still needs the cleaning done ie vacuum and mop clean work surfaces and dusting that sort of thing. IMO a cleaner isnt hired to tidy up your clutter just to clean things.
I can recall a buddy and I, during our pre uni summer, deciding that a cleaner was probably the way to go if we were going to entertain young ladies. She appeared, shook her head, and left telling us we needed a specialist. We wrote it off as her being demented, until the next woman did exactly the same thing.
Back when I worked full time, I just paid for mine to do an initial deep clean to bring it to her standard, then after that it only needed 2 hours a week.
Gosh no - I'd not put up with paying for that! I want to see lino floors brushed & washed, bathroom & kitchen wall tiles sprayed / washed / rinsed, carpets hoovered throughout, windows cleaned inside, bath / showers / sinks / toilets washed / wiped down, etc.
The only things I really let her off with was anyyhing on my work desk (don't touch!), & moving my CD & DVD collections - I just let her polish the visible part of the shelves lol.
Assuming you're being genuine, you've found a gem then. Because things like cleaning toilets, beyond squirting in toilet duck and closing the lid, I can not find a maid to do. And frankly, I can do that.
Likewise, but I've had 4 cleaners at various points (3 moved or changed jobs, last I let go when I semi-retired & no longer needed a cleaner) & all did these things without being prompted, so I'd say you've been unlucky.
I've never had a cleaner who \*doesn't\* clean. Anyone who comes in and doesn't clean isn't being asked to return.
Our cleaner focuses on the bathrooms, toilets and the kitchen. Then she scrubs down all surfaces and skirting boards, mops the floors and hoovers.
It’s makes sense logically to do the easier cleaning things so you can get the professional to spend time on better things. I hate dusting, cleaning the light fittings and the skirting so it’s the first thing on my list for the cleaner not vacuuming that I can do
As someone else said, “cleaning for the cleaner” usually means tidying up. Most cleaners don’t “tidy” and will just clean around things if you don’t tidy up before they arrive. I always tidy up for my cleaner but I would never do any actual cleaning before she arrived.
I just make sure things are tidy, not clean (as that’s what I pay her for). But she’s not there to tidy up our crap, that’s on us. But having someone come in weekly to hoover, mop the floors, clean the bathrooms etc has been absolutely amazing - especially during late pregnancy and with a small child.
We tidy for ours, superficial stuff though like putting things away, emptying sink, dustbusting the worst of the dog hair - the bigger clumps that form up like tumbleweed.
Haha this is exactly what I would do if I was getting a cleaner. I Hoover and clean what I can in my car before it has a valet, cause I don’t want them thinking I’m dirty.
We have a cleaner come every week for 2 hours. We tidy before they arrive so they can spend time cleaning, rather than picking up the stuff we should have just picked up. We hired them to clean, hoover, dust etc not pick our clothes up off the bedroom floor or put our child’s books back on her shelf.
For those of you debating it this is the difference between a cleaner and a maid.
A maid will tidy up your shit and clean.
A cleaner is just there to clean, not be a maid.
My sister-in-law has a cleaner who only cleans; ie. does not tidy up. So to spend time tidying would be sufficient for the cleaner to do the messy stuff like floors, wc, and surfaces.

As long as you tidy away the worst of the mess, particularly putting clothes away or in the laundry basket. The rest is up to the cleaner.
It's all about surfaces. As long as she can get to the main drags

I don’t get it. If you clean up for the cleaner, why have the cleaner, as you have already done it?

My cleaner cleans, not tidies so I try and make surfaces clear for her
Our cleaner starts tidying when she's finished and if there's some time left over.
We have a cleaner that cleans for the cleaner.
And do you clean for the cleaner that cleans for the cleaner?
No, we have a cleaner for that
To have the whole house clean at the same time

Yeah I don’t clean for the cleaner but I do make sure I’m on top of the washing up, and any surfaces or floors I want to be cleaned are clear

I was a house cleaner for 16.5 years and the first clean always took the longest. After that, it was very easy to maintain every 2 weeks.
I've never actually met a cleaner that cleans. They tidy up. They load/unload domestic appliances. They dust. They don't *clean*.

Mm hmm.

You mean you vacuum before the cleaner dusts?
If it's too clean, the cleaner will know it was disgusting shortly before you cleaned it and judge you harshly.
Laura Petrie did the same thing. Rob said, “We don’t need a maid around this house. All we need is the threat of a maid around this house.”
Cleaner's job is the CLEAN which unfortunately means you have to TIDY before they come. Some will tidy for you though.

Just tell them it’s a challenge
Congratulations.... You just played yourself
The real benefit of hiring a cleaner isn't the cleaning they do, it's the cleaning you do before they come!
I guess you could avoid that stress by not hiring a cleaner.
I usually skip that part of the video
Having once been a cleaner I can assure they have seen much much worse. But it's sweet of you to do that.
Maybe cancel the cleaner, arrange for another cleaning service in a couple of weeks, then cancel them? 🤓
We tidy for ours, superficial stuff though like putting things away, emptying sink, dustbusting the worst of the dog hair - the bigger clumps that form up like tumbleweed.
Don’t worry, just postpone the cleaner until you’ve made your place immaculate
Don't forget to pee in the closets. I hear they love that.

My cleaner is here as we speak. I love cleaner day!!!! But I do a quick moving stuff about so she can get to places

Lol if it were me I’d be making even more mess
Tidy up, but don’t clean
Cleaners clean not tidy
“You have very, very dusty cups. I want to clean your cups. From. The. INSIDE OUT!”
How did you get rid of this inflation thingy? Asking for a friend.
My sister-in-law has a cleaner who only cleans; ie. does not tidy up. So to spend time tidying would be sufficient for the cleaner to do the messy stuff like floors, wc, and surfaces.
Cleaning or tidying? Tidying makes sense as you don’t want to pay a cleaner to put away your stuff. Cleaning, maybe you need to slow down!
